So recently MOAC was attacked by mining pool. Here is the story:
https://2miners.com/blog/moac-chain-under-attack-by-mining-pools/ And here is telegram announcement published by MOAC team:
Announcment :
On the 31st of January, 2019, MOAC Mainnet Chain received a so called 51% attack between block 1796517 and 1796972. The attack was from a well-known MOAC mining pool BYLT.GQ. In the past, the hashrate of this pool was about 5% of all MOAC network. Between the UTC time 2019-01-31 8am and 10am, this mining pool manipulated the network for a short period of time. BYLT.GQ disconnected its mining nodes from the Mainnet and then loaded with around 600GH/s of calculation hashpower to its mining nodes for about 153 blocks. Then, it connected back to the Mainnet for about 20mins and launched a similar manipulation again. Totally, it mined 259 blocks and replaced about 186 blocks during the period.
The MOAC team quickly noticed this incident and contacted the owner of the BYLT.GQ. We received responds from the BYLT.GQ pool soon after we contacted them. BYLT.GQ claimed to perform this attack to help MOAC network to be aware of this weakness. They also issued an announcement on their website about this attack (
https://moac.bylt.gq).
The MOAC team had been working on solution against this kind of attack already. We fully understand the situation and its impact. This incident will speed up our progress. We will release an update promptly and share our approach with community. We thank for BYLT.GQ and its owner @artdoe (telegram id) by providing this warning.
We also contacted the exchanges and notified them about the attack. So far, we did not identify any double spending or fraudulent transactions during this period.
For teams with applications running on MOAC Mainnet network, some of them may found their applications were briefly impacted by the attack during the 2 hours of the attack, such as delay of the transaction or revert of some of the contract call. The MOAC explorer experienced some data display error for the information during this short period. The MOAC team will continue investigate the incident and keep the community updated. Again, we will release an update to protect against similar attack in the future.
But most interesting that MOAC team was aware of the attack, team members do know the attacker and know about stolen money and MOAC team appreciated this gesture from the attacker.
Also wonderfully they said that stolen money is not a big deal and they won't file any legal actions against the attacker. When I stated that MOAC itself probably could face legal action as a fraud they silently banned me from the official telegram group.
So far MOAC team actions looks super sketchy for me. Be aware!
