Hi, thank you for your support. We started our third and final testing group for the second major version of our VPN client this week and will begin the node hosting phase soon.

I got a question: could you also have faulty nodes in your network? For example the NSA spins up some nodes and if people use it the NSA can see everything? Is there something like node validation and if yes, how would that work?

Hi, the idea is to try to grow the network as much as possible to make this scenario much more difficult. Users are incentivized to participate in hosting nodes by earning MYST tokens in reward. The bigger the network the more options for users when connecting to VPN services and that helps avoid these types of situations. There will also be an amount of MYST required to run a node in order to avoid spammers and bad actors. There will be a Reputation System that will help users select their preferred region, speed, reliability, etc. We will also be employing advanced methods like node relaying, splitting of requests and several protocols to help secure our decentralized network.

Hello! Thank you for your answer. Ok but that means in general it is impossible to fully prevent that from happening of course. Nothing inherently bad to your system, but to any system that would offer a decentralized VPN. Still better than having centralized VPNs who find themselves forced to give access to their data by authorities.

Hi, welcome. That is correct it is better than having a centralized VPN that does not have open source code and who could be keeping logs without consent as has already happened in several cases. Decentralization helps protect from these issues.

Exactly and I am looking forward to use your service once it is up and running. Will there be limitations in the beginning in regards to capacity etc, or how are you going to bootstrap the network quickly?

Hi, we have our VPN client for Mac available if you would like to use and test it for free. Node hosting testing for main Server Linux distributions is next and will require some server administration experience at the beginning. In the future we will have a more user friendly version that will allow anyone to easily become a node from the main operating systems. We currently have several nodes from various countries and when the users start node hosting testing there will be decentralized options in the network. Current reports about speed and performance are that users are satisfied and normally do not see a difference when browsing.

Will for sure look into that shortly! By the way are there any estimations in regards to the rewards for running a node?

The node runners will have freedom to set the price that they wish for providing their unused network traffic. It will be an open marketplace.

Cost of Mysterium services will be defined by the node operators. Since this will create a phenomenon known as ‘perfect competition’ – we expect prices to be significantly lower than of current VPN providers.
