Yes you can solo-mine NMD.  

Assuming you're using a GPU miner, your config file will include/require the following:

Then, using the four things bolded above from the config file, the "batch file" that you'd use for your miner should be:

./ccminer -o http://127.0.0.1:15717 -u somePrivateUserNameThatYouDon'tShare -p SomePrivatePassword -a hmq1725 (any other flags that you use)

It's also a good practice to encrypt your wallet and ensure that your config file has read-only permissions viewable only by your user account.

I had this problem to, and ended up with the following list from browsing this forum and asking at the awesome pool that I use (https://cryptotastic.net/).

A bunch are stale (I only have 4 connections for my wallet), and I really wish that there was a better way of finding nodes... so if someone knows, please share! I don't think a coin can get popular if new users have to do this much work to get started.
