Thanks Balthazar,  No hurry here, so I will leave things alone and just wait for the update to the Android app.  I will just use the new address that the new wallet created on the PC for my mining and keep my fingers crossed that the update will fix the broken blockchain issue and that I can get back into my funds there.  Lesson learned here... I will make sure I have backups and options on multiple machines going forward.  Sad  Hopefull(fingers crossed) I can get back into the app so that I can make that backup after the update.

Unfortunately I have not rooted my phone so I don't think I have access to those folders.  Also the app dies before it fully comes up when it hits the blockchain issue so I can't get in there to back it up at this point.   Any ideas when we think the next update will be?  Thanks again!

Ohh, I've sent you a PM before reading this message. Sad

Hi. Have you rooted your device or not?

Client's data directory is located here:

Unfortunately, it's only available if you have root privileges.

If your wallet is able to start then you can dump your private keys or wallet file and save it to some less restricted location. Click the menu button and then choose either "Backup wallet" or "Export wallet" option.

Unfortunately, Android creates a separate user account for every application, so besides the app itself only root user will be able to extract the data from there.

I see that your wallet is unable to start, so you need to remove broken blockchain files somehow. If this is not an urgent matter then I'd recommend you to wait for the next release, it will include automatic removal of broken blockchain database files. This feature will be triggered in case if recent startup attempt has been failed. I think that this will be very helpful in situation like yours.

P.S. Don't remove the application, please, otherwise you're risking to lose your data.

Ok, Next silly question. I installed the Novacoin_QT on a PC.  Now I am trying to figure out how to get my wallet moved from my phone over to my PC.  Can someone describe the steps or point me to a location with how to do this?  For some reason my phone app is throwing an error "Error Loading block database" and to click OK.  Any way to recover from that error and to move my Novacoin wallet to a PC?  Thanks.

So I just tried to install the wallet on my laptop running Ubuntu.  It downloads the .deb file, but when it tries to install it the installer says it is unable to satisfy software dependencies.  Any idea what is missing so that I can get a wallet installed on my laptop and migrate off of my phone.  Thanks!

To satisfy the dependencies you need to add required repositories. It's explained in the readme file.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/novacoin/files/novacoin-0.5.7/deb/README/download

Alternatively, you can use statically linked build. But with either debian or ubuntu there is actually no need for doing so.

P.S. It seems that future deb releases will be able to add required repositories automatically.

As it was recently requested, statically linked builds are available again.

I know I searched around looking for pools for Novacoin and was using Khore for a while, but we keep having dead periods where no blocks were found and you could be grinding all day and not make anything.  I popped over and tried the p2pool and of course the same situation.  I found you can mine NVC over at Multipool.us and just mine the coins you want or you can use the most profitable pool that bounces different coins.  The downside there is that you get paid in whatever coin you mine so you have to open up accounts on different exchanges to get those coins, exchange them to BTC and then send them over to BTC-e to get NVC if that is what your after.  It is all just too much work and costs you too much money in transfer and exchanges.

I found some other pools that will pay out in any coin you want so I tried a couple of those.  The one I am using now is prohashing.com and getting paid in NVC.  So far it seems to be working well and with it being a multipool there always seems to be blocks found and something coming into the wallets each day.

So if you looking for a pool I would suggest looking at some of the multipools that payout in coins of your choice.  It can save you the time, money, and hassle of mining for BTC or other coins and having to exhange them and costing you a portion of your hard mined rewards.   Hopefully this will help those of you who are fans of NVC and looking for a place to mine and options.  I am making a little more money with the multipools paying me in NVC than I was just mining NVC directly through p2pool and khore.

Happy mining!

yeah not much faith in this scaninput enhancement when i have 3 blocks of coins sitting at 99%+ probability of a block found by now.

so i notice there is a novacoin 5.7 version available now..

in leveldb and bdb flavors.

which will stake faster and which is recommended? i have 3 inputs over 100 coins that have been staking over 90 days (with unlocked wallet more than half this time) and no reward.

Both will stake with the same speed, bdb is more stable and recommended in case of frequent power failure on systems with HDD, leveldb is little bit faster. You can check the exact time when each input will find the block with the new feature "scaninput" (select from the wallet menu bar: Help - Debug window - Console - type "scaninput" - press "Enter" and follow the instructions).

Novacoin 0.5.6 builds are available on our sourceforge page.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/novacoin/files/novacoin-0.5.6/

It includes support for pubkey pair addresses and some minor optimizations. Meanwhile, we're also gradually moving towards the use of Clang as preferred compiler for our project.

Hint: if you're running a pool or p2pool node then this script may be useful for you. This also may help you in case if your internet connection is restricted and client is unable to find nodes through IRC or DNS seeding mechanisms.

Release candidate windows binaries have been published.

These builds are introducing support for the new kind of addresses, which are purposed to provide a significant degree of anonimity.

AMD64: LevelDB | BerkeleyDB

x86: LevelDB | BerkeleyDB

Feature will be activated since 20 March, 2016. Additional details will be published a bit later.

Some protocol updates were merged and will come in force soon.

Since 20 March, 2016:

New transaction type, allowing people to use one-time public keys for sending/redeeming the coins. This is much better in terms of privacy, in comparison with standard addresses.

https://github.com/novacoin-project/novacoin/blob/master/doc/MalleableKeysRawTx.txt (raw tx example for testnet)

The sendtoaddress, sendfrom and sendmany RPC calls have been adjusted to work correctly with the one-time key pairs. There are also new RPC calls, such as newmalleablekey, adjustmalleablepubkey, adjustmalleablekey and listmalleableviews. Documentation is going to be updated a bit later.

Since 20 April, 2016:

OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY and OP_CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY support.
