I like Kora.

What about leaving out the K, and make it just: "Ora"?
That means: "Pray!" in Latin, and goes nice with "Labora" which means "work!"
Ora et labora!

I did not do a extensive search for stockmarket abbreviations, but the benefit of short names is that they can be the abbreviation too...
Pentamon

i agree with you, ORA sounds a lot better.

Awesome Pentamon, I like Ora!

Sound like 'aura' so it appeals to my inner hippie (and my outer hippie too). Your point about having a short name for speaking & writing is very true.

customer, "how much for these?"
shop keeper, "they're 12 Ora each"

that works Smiley
i like Ora

I concur!  Grin
Kora and Qora sound exactly the same and could be confusing to a lot of people. Not to mention, it somewhat ties us to Qora and if something goes wrong with them, it could reflect on us in a negative way.
Ora is simple and sounds cool. I like it!  Cool

I agree to! The only think that "bothers" me is the similarity to Italian word ora for time.

Kora, it seems to me you and the team are doing a fairly good job organizing and managing things for the project. The only problem I see at the moment is that Kora is a clone.

I think the best way to use the resources you have would be to create a new code for this project and bring a real piece of innovation to the market. Beyond all the obvious benefits, that would make Kora at least 10x-20x more valuable regardless of how good a clone project it would be.

Have a look at the Kora development thread - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ora-development-discussion-thread-675484

The 'Kora, a clone of Qora' was just the starting point for a community discussion about what direction WE choose to take with Kora. I think if you check out the dev thread you'll be encouraged.

Great plan for Kora , lets keep moving forward. I think name "Kora " will create confusion with qora.

Do you have any name suggestions? I personally don't like names that end in 'coin', but that's just my opinion. I think a good name, good logo and appropriate slogan/motto are vital.

Brainstorming time maybe Smiley

I agree strongly with choosing another name. It is confusing. What about "peculium"?  Smiley
Even if you stay with name of Kora I will support you!

Thanks! Where does 'peculium' come from?

I always try and imagine different people using the coin name is a monetary related sentence. For example, imagine a young child, or a CEO of a fortune 500 company, or a politician, or your grandmother using the coin name.

When I do this experiment *most* current coin names don't do well IMO.

Of the current coin names I really like Monero and Qora and NXT, as I don't really go for 'coin' in the name, and acronyms aren't my thing either, but that's just me.

I like Kora.

If i may say something, would you remove the negative thoughts/ opinion about other POS currencies like nxt, nem etc in the announcement. It will do no good in anyway and will actually turn hostile to this coin. Felt like saying it. Frankly i didnt like it. Bringing down someone else to prove its something superior is imho, not good.

Thanks for your advice! Can you be more specific and quote the sections or phrases you think overstepped?

I definitely do NOT want to fall into the trap of criticising other crypto coin projects unnecessarily, so if I have done that I would like to correct that.

I think it is necessary and legitimate when 'promoting' something that you refer to alternatives and competition, but that should be based on facts and honest opinion. I am a big supporter of POS, and have a holding in NXT, NEM & Qora.

This project, Kora, had its genesis from trying to evaluate recent crypto projects and LEARN from past experience. What did previous coin projects do well? What areas could be improved upon?

I think many people are big supporters of crypto projects generally, but they can still see weak points in even the serious crypto projects that most people respect the most (bitcoin, NXT, Ripple, Etherium, eMunie, Counterparty, Mastercoin, NEM, Qora etc etc), and if strategies to overcome some of those weaknesses can be put into practice in another project to make a 'brother' crypto stronger that is unambiguously positive IMO.

I've said before that I see ALL current crypto projects (including bitcoin and NXT) as entities on an evolutionary path. No crypto is perfect so far, but collectively we have learnt a lot in a short space of time, and as time goes on we will get closer and closer to legitimate global decentralised financial tools.

Let me freely admit now - Kora will not be the perfect crypto coin. Mistakes will be made, and mistakes have already been made, but hopefully we're a valid stepping stone on the path to better and better outcomes. People are free to point out our mistakes, and I encourage that, but I hope it is done with honesty and in a spirit of crypto community camaraderie. As long as you 'play the ball and not the man' I think its OK to be 'free & frank' with your opinions.

As long as a project isn't trying to scam people, and they act in a transparent  way wherever possible I am always trying to see how that project can add something to the greater crypto experiment.

I've been labelled a scammer by many for my actions with Kora, so I appreciate and value your advice to not overly denigrate other coins and their supporters, thank you!
