Global Warming Effects: More Killer Storms

One of the most noticeable global warming effects, if you pay attention to the news, is the increase of Killer Storms.

Scientists have solid evidence that the intensity of hurricanes and cyclones worldwide is getting more extreme. For example, the maximum wind speeds of the strongest tropical cyclones have increased significantly since 1981 according to research published in Nature.

If we don’t do anything, this upward trend won’t stop any time soon.

Global Warming Effects: Widespread extinction of species

The following Global Warming effect on our list is very concerning and we have talked about it before. We are referring to the widespread extinction of species.

Research shows that rising temperatures could lead to the extinction of more than a million species by 2050. We are talking about a mass extinction that will affect human life, as we also need other species for our survival.

Climate change is destroying habitats and the list of endangered species keeps growing every day. Unless we start taking measures now, the consequences will be disastrous.

Global Warming Effects: Disappearance of Coral

Now that we’ve already covered the biggest Global Warming causes, it’s time that we take a look at their biggest reactions on the planet. Our next list will unveil the most alarming Global Warming effects.

To start the list let’s talk about the Disappearance of Coral Reefs. A report from WWF says that in a worst-case scenario, coral populations will collapse by 2100 due to increased temperatures and ocean acidification.

This is a very serious problem because many other species that live in the oceans rely on coral reefs for their survival. It would affect the entire ecosystem as a whole.

The next Global Warming effect on our list is connected to this one. Can you guess what it is? Find out tomorrow.

Top 5 Global Warming Causes: Carbon Emissions from Power Plants

Here’s the Number 1 Cause of Global Warming: Carbon Emissions from Power Plants.

We have arrived at a time when life without electricity is almost impossible. The bad side is that the coal burning process from power plants releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

40% of U.S. CO2 emissions come from electricity production on its own and with new electric products coming in every day without widespread alternative energy sources, our planet is at risk.

Unfortunately, burning coal is the main cause of global warming. Let’s start doing something to change that. With the ‘reduce’ platform you can offset the carbon from every product or service you buy.

Top 5 Global Warming Causes: Carbon Emissions from Transportation

We are about to finish our Top 5 Global Warming Causes. The time has come to reveal the Number 2 Spot: Carbon Emissions from Transportation.

As our population keeps growing at an alarming rate, there is more demand for cars and other vehicles that require fossil fuels for their use. This massive consumption is responsible for about 33% of emissions in the U.S.

Electric cars are a better alternative, but until we discover a way to change the standards in favor of the planet, the result will be visible in climate change.

Tune in tomorrow to find out which is the Number 1 Cause for Global Warming.

Top 5 Global Warming Causes: Methane Emissions from Agriculture

Another cause for Global Warming is coming at number 3 on our list: Methane Emissions.

Where do they come from? One of their main sources comes from agriculture practices. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that ranks right behind CO2. It is produced when organic matter is broken down by bacteria under oxygen-starved conditions, for example in rice paddies.

The levels of methane released into the atmosphere are currently increasing which also increases the rate of global warming drastically.

Together we can fight to conserve our planet. Learn how: https://poseidon.eco/

Top 5 Global Warming Causes: Deforestation

Following our list of Global Warming causes, here is the number 4 spot: Deforestation.

Forests are the source of many commodities that we have grown accustomed to. Wood and paper products, for example. While big companies are after palm oil plantations.
But in order to get those resources, we are contributing to the mass deforestation of our world. Forests are necessary to remove and store carbon dioxide so when the forests start to disappear, there are large amounts of carbon released to our atmosphere.

At Poseidon we are working in projects that aim to protect threatened forests like Cordillera Azul in Peru.

Top 5 Global Warming Causes: Chemical Fertilizers

Global Warming is an unfortunate reality that is affecting our planet. Being informed about its causes and effects is the first step towards a positive change.

That’s why we’ve decided to present you the Top 5 Global Warming Causes so that each day we can discover something new together.

At number 5 is the usage of “Chemical Fertilizers” on croplands. Their use has dramatically increased as opposed to the historical use of animal manure. These fertilizers are rich in nitrogen and their excess creates dead-zones in our oceans.

Over-fertilization is also a big concern for human health. We need to control their use before it’s too late.

Stay tuned to find out more causes for Global Warming up next.

Global Carbon Emissions Are Seen Reaching Another Record in 2019

Each year’s CO2 is higher than the last, and this will keep happening until humans stop adding CO2 to the atmosphere.” These are the words of Richard Betts, a professor at the Met Office Hadley Centre, and it exposes the growing concerns we have about the planet.

A recent study showed that the amount of carbon dioxide that is damaging the atmosphere is likely to reach another record in 2019. Why is this happening? Despite the warnings, we are still increasing our use of fossil fuel and there are fewer forests every year.

Poseidon encourages people to take action with the ‘reduce’ platform, which will allow anyone to help without big changes in their daily routine.

Let’s stop the constant rise of CO2 and take back our planet!

The Best Airlines That Are Tackling Climate Change

We all know that flying is bad for the environment but some airlines are better than others at limiting the damage. Let’s find out which ones are ahead of the rest!

To start with, we have Delta (DAL) and United (UAL) leading the competition when it comes to managing their greenhouse gas emissions and the risks related to climate change.

Another important airline is Europe’s EasyJet (ESYJY) because it produces the lowest carbon emissions per kilometer traveled by a passenger.

To date, no airline is doing enough in favor of the planet so we need to step up our efforts and work together for a more eco-friendly system.

How Your Weekly Shop Impacts the Environment

We are all aware of climate change. Many of us have cut down on using plastic bags and tend to recycle as much as possible. But have you considered how your weekly shop can affect the planet?

Food production is responsible for a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions, which are a major contributor to global warming. That’s why we should be more selective about our eating habits.
Here are a few tips!
Going meat-free just one day a week can have a huge positive impact, as the emissions from agriculture would be massively reduced.
Eat everything you buy. Don’t overbuy products just because you got persuaded by deals.
Eat fruits and vegetables, but make sure that they’re in season.

Our eating habits don’t work if the planet doesn’t work.
