so what is the current situation with quark?

Now that is a superb question.

I have not opened my Quark wallet for some time for a number of reasons which are not important.

However, when I did so, it would not sync. I fixed that by searching via Google for some recent addnodes to add to my conf file. Why the older ones from just September last year did not work is anybody's guess, but it surprised me. Anybody less capable than me would have been stuck.

Next of course was the fact that being so out of date, a recent blockchain snapshot (bootstrap.dat or whatever) would have been nice. The only link for that was a torrent that was not available to me until I registered on the Quark forum. I did that hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours ago, but have not yet been authorized to download even that torrent file.

I cannot yet even post to the forum because ... well you tell me.

Meantime my wallet is syncing the old fashioned way. In a couple of days it might get there.

Not good enough guys Sad

It only took 5 weeks for the seednodes to be updated after the servers were destroyed? Thats a long time before anyone (Max or Quark Forum Dev/participants) noticed...I did forward the below email (dated 4/22!) to Max regarding the overdue account (initially started with Quark Foundation funds)- but there was no reply because it is OBVIOUSLY not being monitored...

Yday downloaded a fresh wallet and almost instantly get 19 nodes. Synced quite a fast. Maybe if you run an old wallet with old nodes recorded then it would be faster to sync it from scratch. Another way is to manually add an exchange or a pool. They always have a large list of active nodes.

Just did a fresh install on a Ubuntu 14  x64 version and I encountered no issues, I also use it on Windows 64bit and again no connectivity issues. I use this conf http://quarktalk.org/resources/quark-core-wallet-configuration-file.14/ btw and bootstrap.dat contains the first year+ of blocks which gets installed in half an hour vs 12-24 hours without it.

I have no idea what the fault is either and I am an expert at these things. The machine is running just vanilla Windows 7 64 bit entirely up to date and it runs faultlessly with everything else I throw at it. It no longer matters to me though, since I did what I had to with the wallet for now. I will probably just run up the wallet daily from now on to keep it synced. I will definitely try it on a few other machines though, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for all your replies Smiley

I have got it nearly synced now, but there is clearly something fundamentally wrong.

The wallet will sync for a maximum of three minutes, after which all incoming network traffic appears to stop but some outgoing network traffic still occurs. This is very repeatable, except that sometimes when the wallet is started there is no network traffic in either direction. There is nothing wrong with the pc - that runs other wallets (and miners) without a single hiccup.

I have seen/had problems myself with DNS and wondered if this might be a factor? Are the seed nodes hardcoded into the wallet as domain names or IP addresses?

Edit: The wallet synced and had been idle for some time when it just crashed with an assertion failure Sad

Not sure what your difficulty is.  Recently reinstalled Win64 Quark client on 4 different PCs over the last month.  Just double click and let it run and find peers, did not manually add any nodes.  Worked just fine and sync'ed with no issues each time.

Thanks for that.

I managed to get the 64 bit version 0.9.2.3 wallet from the dropbox link in the OP, but the updating with that was no better than the 32 bit version. I have already gone so far as to write a small routine that opens the wallet, lets it run for two minutes, closes it cleanly, waits for 10 seconds and then restarts the wallet. This has got the wallet updating in fits and starts but it might be finished before the day is out at least.

I will give the new wallet a go ...

Should you decide to bail on QRK feel free to PM me your wallet.dat and I'll put the coins to use *cough* sell them *cough*

Not a chance. These QRK are part of my pension fund. I should be able to enjoy half a pint of beer with the proceeds and I am really looking forward to that Wink

TBH though I was almost tempted to send you that file for a moment there Cheesy

No really ... the wallet runs for about five minutes a minute and then just stops updating despite having a good 8 connections to the network. Completely useless.

The Alt.Currency world was always destined to split into winners and losers : The resources of the active developers and promoters are finite, and will gravitate towards the coins which already have the best teams and supporters... Like growing stars vs dying stars.  Quark thus seems destined to be amongst the vast majority which will slowly cool and extinguish.

Of course, there is little point in selling (even if you could move the coins), as the price is tantamount to a penny-option. A cryptocurrency does not die until the last (possibly 2) users switch off : even then it can be resurrected with the right effort.

I see my Quark forum membership has now been approved.

I also see that the blockchain torrent download does not seem to have been updated since September last year, so that is utterly useless. The wallet is continually sticking while updating and going nowhere until I restart it, which is driving me insane.

Furthermore, the latest 64 bit Windows wallet zip file download is corrupted. The 32 bit one at least unzipped ok, but does not seem to be working very well.

So like the man said .... what is happening with this coin? I am almost ready to write-off all my QRK simply because it is going to be way too much trouble to get the wallet up to date.
