Many coins end up being fork fests when they launch the first time. What is the cause for this - overloaded nodes? Or is it something in the code?

how many blocks out? it seems like i am in another chain with 32 blocks only.
i think i was cause i deleted blockchain and restarted and it synced just fine. i had like 100k lol
