Yes you can only use Ethereum, however there will be a shapeshift button upon launch to you can transform your coins into ETH for the token

When our token launch begins, a "BUY SNGLS" button will appear in our SingularDTV Lightwallet. You can generate a wallet here: https://singulardtv.com/lightwallet

You will also be able to buy SNGLS from Mist. To do this you will need the "Crowdfunding Contract", "Token Contract" and "JSON interface data". This information will be published when we launch. Just after the token launch concludes, you'll also be able to buy SNGLS on at least 1 exchange. We'll announce which exchange(s) soon.

SNGLS can only be bought with ETH, but in our SingularDTV Lightwallet we have a Shapeshift function which makes buying with other coins/tokens easy.

Payments from an exchange wont work. The only case it would work is if the exchange sets up their system for it in which case it would announced somewhere.

SingularDTV does have a light wallet you can use if you cant/dont want to download the ETH blockchain.
