I full heartedly agree with your two opening statements. Unfortunately, I don't see how can we survive by implementing your suggestion.

Let me tell you a story and is free to tell the management of your company.
We were established in 1996 and we have worked with small customers. thousands of small customers. and by 2000 we still had thousands of small customers as well as two large customer who have worked 95% of the traffic got so until 2008 while one large customer abandoned us. We endured even to 2009 until they appeared layoffs, the sale of assets. The highlight was just today until I signed the application for bankruptcy. I warn partners too dangerous to depend on that one single annual sales carries 40-50% of total sales. Also in my private little hotel I do not allow guests staying more than 30 days, i dont allow guests renting the entire floor for cash to be alone in the house. I still have a Russian customer who offers to rent the entire facility 90 days and pay  for it to stay 15 days in total privacy. Once disappear from the market hard to be back.

@SPT -
35 USD to ship an SD card??

and if i were to pay using the 150USD coupon you will invalidate the remaining 115 USD??

Please keep it!

As to the burnt connectors, they were not 'officially reported' but extensively discussed on the forum late last year.

Can i use the 150 USD for replacing these? I assume they wont cost that much.

Although the shipping may make it a complete waste of time if 35USD for a 1g SD card is anything to go by...

We'll upload an experimental version of the recovery SD, you'll be able to test it yourself.
I'll check about the connectors. You'll need to do the modifications yourself. The shipping will be probably more expensive.

Thanks, An uploaded version is a much better idea!

I've opened the SP20E to begin removal of the headers, and found both ribbon cables are damaged.

That's how my business operates. Orders are First Come First Served, and when we had a big order come in alongside a bunch of smaller orders and had to run out a new batch to meet them all, we divided up the units as they came off manufacturing. From every 10 boards we set aside 6 for the big order and shipped out 4, so we met the big order within the estimated lead time but didn't screw over the guys that only wanted a few.

We'll probably sell single units as well. It's not a promise though. I believe that a much better model for a small buyers will be to buy some small percentage of a shared mine.

I believe that centralized model is not only bad for Bitcoin, but goes against the basic principles as well.  It's disturbing enough that manufacturers are competing directly with their own customers by mining, but excluding the home miner all together is an absolutely horrifying thought.  It would be really respectable if you had the exact opposite thought of, "we will ship all orders of 1 single miner before any multiple miner orders, including bulk purchases from hosting partners."  I know you're running a business to make the most money possible, but there is something to be said for companies/people who put the community first.

I full heartedly agree with your two opening statements. Unfortunately, I don't see how can we survive by implementing your suggestion.

Your hosting partners would be against you shipping a set # of units before they get theirs?  Surely, you shipping out 200 units for individual buyers the day before sending out bulk shipments to your partners wouldn't have much effect on them, but would do wonders for raising the bar for manufacturers.  You have a great reputation here and I'd love to see you continuing to elevate it above the competition, as opposed to selling out and damaging network decentralization for maximum fiat profits like those before you.  Anyway, I'm a supporter and hope that I will have the opportunity to continue supporting in the future.
Thank you.

Their saying the definetly WILL NOT produce consumer models for their next gen...
What I said was that our initial form factor for the 3rd gen will be suitable for bulk buyers.
Please read my last messages.

This is fine, as long as that grade is not required at a truck load to buy. I could buy a single 16kw unit. no issue, would like to buy from you and not from a third party, unless you plan to have authorized resellers?

From the marketing perspective-most people in US will not go for it (sharing small %).
It's just not in our DNA (although i am not a native, but as they say in Texas-I was born elsewhere, but got here as soon as i could).
Besides, i seriously doubt that the big iron is the way to go. We went through this in computers, and it is clearly not the most efficient way.
I don't know what will be a winning combo: maybe heaters that could mine; maybe miners that could do other things, like trading stuff between each other; maybe 3D printers that could mine when not in use or internet/wireless routers that could mine. Dual purpose with low energy chips.

A couple of things that SPT did not address:
1. Is this miner based on 28nm or 16nm (I assume 28nm)?
2. What real life energy efficiency it will have?
3. Although it is probably FUD as far as speed of actual machines being produced is concerned, competitors are claiming the tapeout of 16nm 0.07w/Gh chip. Even assuming that it will result in 0.1Gh/w, it is still 10Th/1000w. I fail to see the urgent need for a 16kw machine that would be difficult to deploy.
Without getting into specific spec, I believe the following post reveal enough for now: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.10597324
I don't know if you're right or wrong regarding shared mines, time will tell.

hey everyone.

As you all know electric prices are not the best for miners alike, does anyone have the best settings for a nice hash/watt ratio? , the best ive been able to get is 1300Ghz @ 720W at the wall?

Does anyone have better settings?>

Thanks

You would think, but I'm not one to trust someone else with thousands of my hardware, mining company folds and my hardware is gone.

I could also run one of thoe big guys on my back deck all winter, no more snow removal. lol
I agree that the counter-party risks in Bitcoin mining businesses is very high. We got burned twice.
We'll work on ways to minimise those risks, both with technological means and proper collaterals.

Zoomhash hosting is you send miner to them or they use cloud miner according to plan and machine you buy and length of contract??

Example of Antminer s5 for 1 year is $35/month  equals less than .085 electricity and maintenance, and dc space.

Will home miners forced out still use Bitcoin or would they start following some alt they could mine?

If it all comes down to a few big miners, why keep using the coin?

Why wouldn't you? Are you saying you are using Bitcoin only for its home mining friendliness?? You are missing some good things this technology has to offer.

3) We'll sell it with Rack mount and PSUs

I'm starting a mining business and have about 180 kW of power which puts me about as a small/medium buyer.

I understand the attractiveness of rack mount with PSUs included miners for the bulk buyer. However, I found the price premium for this too expensive. My last buying order, I opted for SP20 which was sold at 366 USD / unit in a 15 units bundle which is about 244 USD / TH.s^-1 (Without PSU). The SP31 is now at 430 USD / TH.s^-1 with PSU. The choice was clear from a buyer standpoint to take the SP20 and buy the PSU somewhere else.

I don't know if this premium is the result of a desire to liquidate your SP20 inventory, but if it is the result of a manufacturing cost... I think you should let the miners provide the PSU.

I'm eager to see what SP will have to offer in the near futur. My order with them went really well and unfortunately for me, the SP20 being out of stock without alternative, is delaying my expansion project.

Strange time to start a mining business i must say lol.  If you are looking for hardware look at the Zoomhash deal on the s4s $600 per unit i think and includes PSU

thats like saying "power is cheaper from the big hydroelectric company then it is to buy and maintain my own windmill/solar panels - should i stop using electricity to provide heat and light?"

and if an altcoin is profitable for home mining - i guarentee it will be profitable for someone to run 50kW+ of that same equipment somewhere that has cheaper power. centralisation is entirely natural, the idea is that there will still be a diverse number of companies/individuals so that bitcoin never becomes truly centralised by one person or company.

a few years ago there were guys who had warehouses and offices filled with dozens of motherboards and hundreds of GPUs. Its actually a lot of those same people that now have warehouses and businesses filled with high density ASICs

To be fair, the SP20 was a one off, testing the real home miner waters, and I don't think it paid off as well as it could have. Whatever the reason.

Spondoolies was originally about the rackmount miner designed for the datacenter, the SP10, SP3x range were where its main market was.

They are just going back to what they do best. Doesn't mean the smaller farm miner can't stay in the game, you just can't run them in your bedroom anymore.

And really, with the noise it made, the SP20 as designed wasn't really a home miner you could keep in your home, it was more for the hobbyist small farm in the garage/shed/warehouse.

Here's hoping BTC hits $50 !!! Grin

If BTC is mined centrally only, then it's no better than the dollar. It'll be manipulated to death by those in control of the network, forcing higher & higher fees & other problems  Sad

BTW,cloud mining only makes BTC for those hosting the miners...ever!!!  Tongue

Thanks for being honest Spoondolies!!! Best of luck to those mining at home still.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-elite-meet-secret-island-bilderberg-style-retreat/

Two words. Satoshi Roundtable

I think Bitcoin has already been manipulated to death by those who hold massive amounts of the coin not just those who have the majority of miner power. What makes anyone think that mining would remain in the small scale domain distributed widely? People have been explaining the consolidation for years. Spondoolies will do what it can to he maintain some of the ecosystem selling to groups interested in challenging Bitfury, Bitmain, Asicminer and KnC as well as others. But again the trends is clear economies of scale, cooling and cheap power for mining. Those who are not ordering on larger and larger scales are unable to keep up.
