Moreover, your tired adage regarding how you were correct about DASH is completely useless in the current situation.  There is no way to know if the future will be similar or different from the past.  You correctly invested in DASH... good for you, but that does not give you carte blanche to dismiss actual concerns.

I dip in and out over long periods of time. Crypto has been good to me and spreadcoin has been a good investment. I usually stalk Coins101 and what he does is deep dive into the details of a problem and comes up with some interesting ideas and solutions. From what I can remember some of those ideas have shaped DASH such as getting rid of the darkcoin name. There was also a proposal somewhere on the old spreadcoin thread I think to make service nodes run Coinbase like accounts which is basically Evolution that DASH is planning only it was proposed here like 6 months before Evan presented any plans for Evolution. Then there is the whitepaper for proof of node. Now a separate Blockchain Broadband network. You make it sound like everything rests with one person when there are many people that contribute and over the thread I can see how things are evolving. DASH was a one man show and still mostly. Things seem to be progressing nicely with spreacoin if you ask me and I can see similar price progress to DASH just needs more time to let things unfold because Evan worked on darkcoin full time for two years. no concerns here.

RE Humbe's post.

In my opinion, you bring up some valid points. They should not be so easily disregarded. I think I see both sides, though perhaps, I see things through the proverbial rose colored glasses. It is difficult to separate emotion from an investment sometimes.

You have had a trolling tone in some other posts of yours however, I think your intentions are overall honest. This post especially. What you offer here is constructive criticism of a relationship between the dev team (current population - Georgem) and the community. It should not be taken as an attack on the coin but as highlighting things that can be improved upon in the future. I understand your frustration with timelines and sometimes lack of communication with the community.

What you seem to be after here is a stream of updates from Georgem on where he currently stands. I've had the benefit of a few different interactions with Georgem here and I sort of understand his take on this. It seems he really doesn't want to use time pandering to the community when he could be completing code. Remember, this is yet to be his full time job. Until then he is splitting his time between Spreadcoin and his other priorities. I am not saying things couldn't be better, but given the context of how this coin is being developed, I think he is doing a good job. I am sure in the future as the population of the dev team expands we will have someone in charge of writing some consistent updates with where things are headed. To use your apt bus analogy, lol, we would have the driver of the bus, a tour announcer giving us info on our ride, along with likely a team of people ensuring some customer service (touble shooting, tutorials, etc), as well as some people in charge of getting other people to take a ride on the bus so that you have friends on your journey.

I think coins101 benefits from having worked on the project and he seems to know Georgem a bit better than the rest of us. As someone who benefits from none of the above, you are being correctly cautious with where you're throwing your money. This is not a bad thing. I'd like to just raise a couple more points - do with them what you will.

Since you brought up "good investment", in the early stages of a project, you sort of inherently take on some degree of "risk". You seem to want 100 percent certainty before putting more money in / spending more time in the community. By the time there's anywhere close to that degree of certainty everyone else wants on as well and your ability to turn your money into larger profits is usually diminished because you've had to buy in at a higher price.

Additionally, you seem to have held for quite a while now - at least a few months. This means, in my opinion, you are through the worst of the waiting. Georgem only took over the project a year or so ago. For instance, I was involved with SDC for a bit. They gave so many deadlines that were disappointingly not met. They still don't even have the marketplace out. It's not a standard to aspire to - but it does happen with software development. Regardless, the inexorable march of time has led them in the right direction. Here at SPR, the future should be far brighter, even if it's not everything all at once. There will also likely be some bumps, and most definitely some deadlines missed. However, releases such as the upcoming wallet, are small (or big - idk sounds like it's pretty cool) steps in the right direction. The inexorable march of time here in Spreadcoin will likely disappear into deep space beyond the dark side of the moon.

Patience, mate. Shouldn't be much longer.

TL;DR: Keep in mind the context of the scale of the problem that is being attempted to be solved vs the resources currently available to solve it.

..However, platitudes and ideals do not necessarily correlate with a good investment.....

A good investment....that there is the issue.

Turn off your monitor. Go for a walk; come back in 6 months.

I seem to remember I kept giving this piece of advice to plenty of people when DASH was below $1m marketcap. For many of those that listened to me, they ended up with a good investment. Those that got frustrated because stuff takes time to build, and build properly, well they probably lost out on quite a good investment.

I'd rather not have devs time taken up holding my hand if it slows down progress Wink

[At least do your bit to help your investment; put SPR in your sig]

The problems PoBN is trying to solve, in perpetuity (i.e. as the Bitcoin dev says 'permanently'), in a nutshell:

I have been thinking about a more casual and easy to use in the press project name for PoBN: I would like to propose DSDN (well, until something else pops into my head).

DSDN = Decentralized Services Digital Network (like ISDN, but its polar opposite).

Which is basically, decentralized high speed bandwidth for blockchains [Bitcoin, SPR, etc.], more commonly known (well,it will be) as broadband for blockchains.

....
I know that many investors (including myself) have grown restless with the lack of updates on progress and thus some people have been seeking to liquidate their assets (without completely destroying the price) with the hopes of putting their money to work in a coin where there is more transparency and communication.

...

The night is always darkest just before the dawn.

I know the grass always looks greener elsewhere, but sometimes staying the course is itself the best course to take.

There is going to be a shinny new thing popping up here or there. Have you looked beyond the sales pitch and the new marketing materials; you know, looked under the hood?

Smoke and mirrors is a great phrase I have come to respect after having lost around 20BTC chasing shinny new things around here on Bitcointalk only to find devs going missing; non-existent devs; pressure selling to help bagholders exit when they knew something was broken and couldn't be fixed; etc.

Sweat, tears and heartache. That's what real projects are made of. I know when Georgem is working his socks off when you look at some of the times he logs in and out...3am, 4am, 6am, etc. You can bet there is sweat going on there, to your tears and heartache.

Anyway...look at the size of the problem we are helping to solve:

The ability of Bitcoin to scale is coming under attack and pressure from various sides. This is bad news for everyone in crypto, even those that would want to take Bitcoin's leadership crown.

If you hodl pieces of this project, then you hold pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that can contribute to solving a problem - 'as big as the invention of Bitcoin.'  If you want to sell your pieces because someone has sold you a story that their shining new thing really does come with much greener grass; then off you go.

Just ask yourself:  Have they really solved a problem as big as the invention of Bitcoin? Really?

Anyway, do come back and let us know about the innovation that is as big as the invention of Bitcoin itself; I will surely invest my life savings for something as innovative as that.

Or is that too good to be true?

Can you point me towards the spread wallet that contains this interaction?

Sorry, still in specification and requirements writing....before we get here, there is some news coming. You know the drill....do I really need to say it?

....stay tuned.

I'll have to do some digging but I might still have some data from the spreadcoin/bitcoin node interaction experiment I did 12 months ago.  I think you used some of the info in your whitepaper.  If the VPS is still live I'll give you access. I don't think Georgem was ready to work on it back then.

mine was a reply to daffadille that asked if spr is profitable or not  to mine. i answered that at usual marke price (6.500 satoshi is average price in the last months) it was as profitable as eth. i am still mining full trust and ""hodling"  for mah collateral to run masternodes.
Anyway believe it or not a coin need also miners that create a turnover and gain market...

Is spreadcoin worthwhile mining ? I see it is gpu only so if you mine it will you get return on investment ? Or do you just mine it in hopes the price goes up ? But then you may as well buy them perhaps.

So, is it possible to implement a masternode?

Any tutorial on this matter?

This coin has potential

Thanks

Masternodes are now called ServiceNodes.

Here is the original masternode testing thread.  The masternodes exist, but they are not yet implemented on mainnet. Georgem will likely make some changes to the current masternode implementation

Coins101: is there an official sig campaign?

Where can I get the same sig as you or one for my account level?

I'll make you one and send it on PM. I don't think we can post about sig campaigns. I'll check the mod rules.

Would be cool to have one for Spreadcoin that had the logo and such. There has to be someone who can do that on these forums... anyone know of someone?

Edit: AnotherNode, I didn't realize you were such a veteran around these parts. You're very inconspicuous lol. Glad to see people hanging around for such a long time  Cheesy

Thanks mate, looks like he does have some nice designs. Maybe I'll see if we can get a cool one for SpreadCoin like you've done.  Cool

Maybe he can even add a photo of Mr. Spread in there lol

There have already been sigs produced for SPR. I can't remember when they were produced, but a few people were using them. I just prefer my one  Grin

Not quite yet. Georgem is working on the newest wallet, a new miner, and also service nodes.

Service nodes will have competitive collateral - see this post about Georgem's vision:

So finally here it is, the update about the current state of work regarding servicenodes and spreadcoin.
