hi all ..

just posting a message i left on spreadcointalk to see what ideas ( if any ) could be thrown about - thats all ...

post below ...

focusing on the farm now guys - not even mining spr as of this minute - but will get back into it soon ...

im wondering who would be interested in joining me in a group focused on spr and mn's when they hit mainnet ...

i read up somewhere in another thread that there are those that have concerns with the way mn's were setup between home and datacenter / business ...

home users are more likely to be dropped if any internet link is dropped or a wallet locks up on their systems or other such issues - whereas most people who set all these things up inside a datacenter or business based system and NOT drop and de-elected ...

its just an idea that is bubbling in my mind as to the stability of the systems and farm that we have here as opposed to those with home systems ...

im not offering anything - yet - but it may be something to look at that may help the 'smaller' systems stay online by having their wallets and mn's on a more ( albeit not entirely concrete ) reliable place to call home ...

we have unlimited internet - unlimited storage ( yes - in excess of 24TB currently ) and the technical network expertise to get some thing sorted for the 'underdogs' here ... the only thing missing here is simply - there are no developers that we have in the 'team' as yet ...

and of course - we are STILL growing the farm and increasing the ability to mine these little fellas - whether spr or not ... but obviously im aiming this comment directly between the eyes of spr not drk ... Wink

its only an idea at the moment - thats all ...

( posting this also on bct to see what responses are given ) ...

All you need to host a Masternode for someone on your server is for them to run 'mnsecret ' (they get the from their QT wallet under the Masternodes tab where their collateral amount is listed) and send the result to you.

Put a 'mnstart=' line in your spreadcoin.conf and restart the daemon on the server.

It's perfectly trustless, they retain full control of the collateral and their earnings.

Charge people whatever upfront monthly and off you go.

I was going to offer such a service myself. Smiley

Economy: Not sure what you mean by this, but Spread Masternodes are several time more profitable to run and far easier to set up than Darkcoin Masternodes.

Doesn't "more profitable to run" mean "less profitable to mine"?  Doesn't that undermine "security"?

No, because Spread is also a shitload more profitable to mine (or less unprofitable, depending on your costs) than just about anything else. Although I'm not sure how that affects blockchain security - more total hash is always better of course, as long as it remains distributed.

I did a very rough calc here: http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101.0  -  bear in mind though that the paramaters currently in use on testnet may change before it hits mainnet.

I think there are one or two other fairly simple ways to create public pools too but at the end of the day none of this matters.  The important thing is what Spreadcoin offers over Darkcoin in terms of privacy, security, transaction speed and economy.

Devil's Advocate here.  What does Spreadcoin offer over Darkcoin in terms of privacy, security, transaction speed and economy?
Privacy: Nothing. Spread doesn't currently have Darksend, or any other privacy/anon tech.

Security: Spread's mining is far more decentralised. 90% of the Darkcoin hashrate is controlled by 3 people running 3 pools on 3 servers.

Transaction speed: No difference when Spread brings its implementation of InstantX to mainnet.

Economy: Not sure what you mean by this, but Spread Masternodes are several time more profitable to run and far easier to set up than Darkcoin Masternodes.

Darkcoin is more mature, has a bigger dev team and community, Darksend, and a correspondingly much higher price. But I think Spread can grow to offer some worthwhile competition and continued innovation of its own. The Masternode architecture allows for all manner of great things to be built in the future, it will be interesting to see how each currency employs them.

Assuming Mr Spread shows up again. Hopefully he hasn't been hit by any US funded 'lethal aid.'

You know what we need guys? A mascot.

Boy, could I find some artwork for that.  Grin

Spreadcoin could incite a rather dirty image.

QED.

So, it's not spreadcoin anymore. Its SPR.

Our coin will watch the world burn.

SPR may be dead if the price is falling below 10K satoshi.

But its not

In the meantime, i see 1440 MN!

What does that mean?

Was that the upper limit on Master Nodes?

Yes.

We are now testing what happens when a new MN kicks the weakest MN out of the network.

Weakest?

What does that mean?

Why isn't there an auction for participation? The wallets with the least SPR get kicked off, provided everyone can meet the minimum infrastructure requirements.

Once we have a maximum of 1440 elected MNs, and a new MN (the 1441st) successully gets elected,
it means that now we have 1441 elected MNs, but now someone has to go. Which one?
The weakest link (the MN with the fewest SPR in it, or the MN at the rank 1440) gets kicked out.

There can only be 1440 elected MNs, and if you are willing to invest more in your MN then it will get a higher ranking position than a lower MN.
