We have given Mr. Spread enormous amounts of feedback during the test round 2.
I am sure it gave him a lot of ideas how he can improve and adjust the code for the next test round 3.

All tests have been announced and released in this thread... http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93.390
Summarizing the test progress:
1) initial test release Feb 8
2) first update on Feb 11th
3) Mac release on Feb 14th (fairly recent in my opinion)
4) 1440 elected MN's only since Feb 18 (or 19)
Issues that were discussed include faster voting by changing the blocks, perhaps not an easy change? I don't know for sure, just applying logic to the process...

How can you tell?
EDIT: Mr Spread's latest commit was on 24th January.
There have been 2 test updates since then... testnet needed to grow to 1440 MN's, at which point the "voting off" starts for the lowest MN's, a process that's just getting started...
I understand. Thanks. You'd think the test updates would go on the forums though.

My guesses on what the dev is doing:
1. Adjusting the algo to make it even harder for pools
2. Doing the day job and working on a tight deadline
3. Still can't escape the ropes since that tall blonde he met at the bar tied him up
4. Feet up, by a pool somewhere sunny taking a break
5. Rewriting masternodes
6. Recovering from a hangover
7. Recovering from man flu

2. Doing the day job and working on a tight deadline

At a minimum he's been away from both forums for 3 days now.
Given we're in the middle of MN testing I'm simply astounded he wouldn't have said he'll be off air for a while.
Has this happened previously? From my approx 2 months' experience of SPR it appears to be out of character.

As I said earlier, spreadcoin is very likely a scam.
The dev has no clue what he is doing.
