If you only want to run it as a plain wallet without the unique p2p BitNet functions :
-You can disable ALL functions in Service Settings.
-Only port 920 should be forwarded but it also works without port forwarding.

Just tested on my Windows XP box.
Connections have dropped since port 920 is closed to only 10, was 35.

This should work for everybody on Windows.

Once you have got it to work like that you can try to enable 1 service setting at the time.

NOTE :
Port 920 forwarding is normally configured by UPnP :
Settings -> options -> network :
-enable UPnP
-disable proxy (only needed if you want to use for example TOR).

Very helpful advice, thanks for helping fellow members here out

At least installing the wallet should be plain and simple, so that we can get an address. Why do I have to change my proxy settings and port forwarding and what not for the wallet?
I am using the wallet with default settings, out of the box :
-VPN service disabled, port 922
-p2p DNS enabled, port 923
-p2p HTTP enabled, port 80
-p2p HTTPS disabled, port 443 (?)
-p2p Proxy disabled, port ?

I have following ports forwarded :
920
922
923

Currently 25 nodes connected after 30 min uptime.

Port 80 not forwarded since I do not want to have my own site, should disable p2p HTTP service...
Will do that and see what happens.

Check port forwarding :Port:922/923/80.
Shut down ALL programs that you don't need, this to avoid port conflicts.

thank you!
No still cant make it work..Where to check the port forwarding :Port:922/923/80.? When I go to proxy settings, it shows
Code:
HTTP:127..0.x.x Port: 923
Secure: 127.0.x.x port: 923
Why can't I connect to the internet after checking the "Use a proxy server for your LAN". I am using Wimax broadband. It doesn't have a router. The LAN cable comes directly from the antenna from the roof.

@ButtCrack

help me,my english is poor now.
Here are the basics for port forwarding which aplies to any p2p program.
-Portforwarding = open your ports of firewall to accept in-coming and out-going data.
If you have modem/router, you must access modem with browser to make changes, read manual for your type/model how to do this.
In my case I use browser to go to :http://192.168.0.254/

Then you must open your ports in Windows firewall, windows should warn you if a program wants to connect to lan or inet.
