I have some more questions for the community.

A few people mentioned giving out bounties for tasks to help grow viacoin adoption/community. What kind of things (and amounts) were you guys thinking about?

I'm not sure about that. But, I think it depends on the project.

Also, I would suggest people do stuff that doesn't try to replace main stream. Like one alt coin I sadly was involved with had a guy creating an ebay like web site that used the alt coin. The problem is, there is no way this site would replace ebay. Now, come up with something that allows me to pay for the ebay bids with Viacoin... that can help.

Also, I love the concept of purse.io... perhaps we can approach them to support Via coin as well. That site is what I think is a great idea.

So, yea, I think bounty size depends on project size and complexity. I know in the NXT world the bounties were generally done by the top wales, because they new giving out bounties for projects that will help grow adoption would only help increase the value of the coin. Of course, NXT was a bit different since it spawned 100% of the coin at genesis so bounties also increased distribution.

Do we have any community funds? Or a board that controls them and offers bounties and accepts bounty requests, etc?

I think part of the success of a coin is its volume. Volume shows adoption or at least interest in the coin. Low volume coins don't inspire confidence (at least to me) and are way easier to manipulate.

A good PR by the developers is another good factor imo - having them explaining their long term vision and projects for the coin. Even if it's a community projects it needs strong and active lead developers to motivate the community members to do things by themselves as well.

What kind of volume? tx volume or trading volume?

Pantera capital.
"Visibility usually means media coverage, public awareness, and, in the case of Bitcoin, price and regulation. However, Bitcoin’s long-term success is more tied to growth in adoption and to development of applications which encourage both merchants and consumers to want to use bitcoins."

Four keywords in this text:
1. Media coverage
2. Public awareness
3. Growth in adoption
4. Development of applications

I have some questions fort he community regarding progress.

How do we measure success objectively? It occurs to me that different people have different criterion for what success means. I think this is an important question to ask because unless we can come to a consensus regarding what success means, it will be hard to measure progress.

What is a successful coin? Is it based on price, if so, price relative to what? Is it based on adoption, if so what kind of adoption? If so what kind? Is it based on technology? What are you comparing against? How would you know when success has been achieved? How quickly do you expect to achieve these results?

See my post on March 11 on this forum.

Panteracapital has made Bitindex with a list of 7 indicators for success. See website for more details.

VIA-index
Based on the bitindex (Source: https://panteracapital.com/bitindex/). I changed Btc for Viacoin.
1. Developer interest on GitHub is the most important metric, as it anticipates applications which will make Viacoin more useful.
2. Merchant adoption is a proxy for the ease of spending, which is important for consumer adoption.
3. Wikipedia views are a measure of how often and how extensively people are becoming educated about Viacoin. It is very erratic, spiking when Viacoin is in the news.
4. Hashrate is a proxy for security, a primary determinant of a digital currency’s success. Without significant hashing power, a blockchain can be easily attacked or manipulated (witness how many altcoins have succumbed to a 51% attack).
5. Google searches measure Viacoin’s media presence, captured by the number of times “Viacoin” appears in the news or is queried by interested parties.
6. User adoption as measured by wallets determines the extent and speed of the network effect.
7. Transaction volume is a proxy for Viacoin network uses. It is underweighted because of the arbitrary nature of some Viacoin (original text:btc) flows.

I think you can look at several things. For me, the following is very important :

- How long is the coin around.
- How active is the community.
- How active the dev/team is.
- 24hr exchange volume.
- Market cap.

This is what I look at before adding a new coin to AltDice.
By the way, already 3,000 VIA (out of 16,000 VIA) have been raised to fund the dice game.
If you think that Viacoin will be around for a long time, it's a good idea to buy some shares of the game.
You'll have your piece of the profits every month. Smiley

Russian translation is going to be delayed a bit, but will be made soon. My russian friend wrote me that he is ill.

thanks for the update!

It's not really update. Drak said that there will be russian translation (because I contacted him and offered) soon and that is why I am posting in advance about the delay to avoid misunderstandings. I can even share what my friend wrote me:

Quote
"Hi. I had very busy week so sorry about VIA. Now will try to finish the translation. Блин зaбыл,чтo ты пo pyccки пoнимaeшь. Блядь зyб бoлит пиздeц пpocтo."

His last 2 sentences in russian language means: "I forgot that you understand russian. I have problems with my tooth (and some cursing...)". Cheesy

Cheers,

Is there anybody capable of making an animation like this one?:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIVAluSL9SU

But then zoom in on the specific features that Viacoin has and to what possibilities that can lead for future development and gives a more concrete visual for Blockchain Notery or CLTV, for example.

Does anyone have the time to make a story board? I think I know people who can do this kind of thing. I say that because I am not that creative for stuff like that.

Would be great if somebody can do this! This will help me (and hopefully others) during  the introduction of viacoin to businesses and makes it more efficient to get up to speed in discussions. Pictures/animations says more than a 1000 words.

That would be useful in getting the unique key points across. Purveying that message effectively, and being noticed by the right people is going to be the biggest assist to progress.

I suggest anyone can have a stab at it, and we post here for full community contribution, development  and approval.

We had someone volunteer a while back to do this, but they disappeared. Would love to get it going. If anyone does the storyboard/powerpoint and writes a script, I can record the narration (I do voiceover/narration work)

Finally more attention for Bitcoin blockchain technology by startup 21 with a 116m$ raise.

Attention especially to blockchain technology. That's VIA's thing, isn't it?!
Hello Andreessen-Horovitz, hello VC's: VIA is working on superiour blockchain technology

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/03/10/secretive-bitcoin-startup-21-reveals-record-funds-hints-at-mass-consumer-play/?mod=ST1&mod=wsj_valettop_email
'According to Silicon Valley investors such as those taking stakes in 21, that failure to gain mass adoption is partly because the public’s attention has been misguidedly focused on bitcoin’s limited potential as a digital alternative to traditional currencies. In reality, they say, its underlying technology has far wider applications than that. Unlike the currency transactions that are generally associated with bitcoin, new uses could range from lawyer-free smart contracts to tamper-proof online voting systems.'
