Thanks! That is really nice. I guess that I would be able to recoup my losses after all. And one thing that I have learned so far is to always make more than one copy of the wallet.dat file to prevent what have happened to me before. Now I have made sure to backup the new wallet in a safe place and the same is distributed among different storage mediums including the cloud protected in an encrypted file container (TrueCrypt) Cheesy

an additional step that you can consider taking, that many people do for backup purposes, is recording your private key somewhere. I keep mine in a notebook written in pen. You can use that key to recover your coins if you somehow manage to lose your actual wallet.dat file. It is just another layer of security and occasionally taking the time to record it can mean the difference between recovering your coins and not.

Sorry for your loss and don't feel too bad, I think most everyone learns the hard way about backups at some point.

Thats good Abilky. Everybody will have some bad luck sometimes and as you know Magi team and community is here to build something awesome and is very happy with the members. Goal of Magi team is slow growing to a huge community with our awesome and unique currency.
That goal needs time, patience and investments. Investments not only in the coin but also in the people!
That what makes our awesome community were it is now and will make it grow further.

they will count just the ammount of XMG that you have in the moment that you inscribe on the PoI3 campaign, lets w8 for @magic111 to confirm it.

I am trying with the original one, but still nothing found yet with Recuva. I guess those 1313.46 XMG that I had are completely lost forever and no way to recover them. For now, I will just focus into the new wallet and mine some XMG along the way. I was thinking about mining XMG with a VPS. If anyone has a tutorial or guide for this, please let me know as I would dedicate such VPS for XMG.

Sorry to hear this Abiky, other things to check or try if Recuva fails, is whether you had filehistory or windows backup turned on if you had a 2nd hard drive. If you did, then that drive would contain a copy or even several copies of the wallet.dat. Unfortunately this is not usually turned on by default, but it's worth a look. And now would be a good time to enable it on the new system.

The chances of Recuva working decrease the longer you use the drive in question because it could possibly over-write the data you are trying to retrieve, so a tip to everyone, have Recuva installed before you need it and don't use the drive for any reason until you have exhausted all attempts of recovering the missing data.

Tip - you can never have too many backups! Get your wallets backed up to multiple locations such as a handful of cheap thumbdrives, because we all know that Murphys law dictates that the more valuable the data = the higher the chance those cheap drives will fail. (experience talking).

Lastly, Recuva is a 'lightweight' (free) program that works pretty well but there are other more intensive recovery programs out there that may have better luck, (EaseUS, Ontrack, GetDataBack) but it can be a time consuming process. Good luck, I hope you get it recovered.

Thanks for your advice and kind words. I have tried scanning with Recuva and after 6 hours of running time, I had no luck. Then I tried with another program called GetDataBack, but still the same. Even if I could not recover my wallet, I have learned a valuable lesson. At least, I didn't lose that much, but it was still something that I had to try the Proof of Interest Campaign, as I have never participated in one.

Oh well, I am now using a fresh new XMG wallet and will wait for the next Proof of Interest Campaign to join.

I view it as a bit of a “tragedy of the commons” in that the block reward value overpowers the amount that miners can expect to gain from the transaction fees. By messing around with moving transactions it lowers the chance of successfully putting the next block in the chain so some miners are ignoring transactions in order to gain an advantage. Additionally, some people have been testing the network with lots of smaller transaction amounts in order to illustrate a problem with it. This is clogging things up and increasing the time it takes for transactions to verify.

Thats my understanding on it anyway, perhaps a bit muddled by all the mushrooms I eat. Cheesy

In any case my hope is that people will realize that there are many other alt coins out there equal to the task of moving value and discover XMG. Wink

BTC will not be able to move all the transactions of the financial world, was not designed to do so, and could be a single point of failure if pushed as the only solution to moving value imho.
