Am new to NXT based coins. I just received 40K from a trade. Should I secure it in any way? All I have done is run the .bat and log in with my seed in a web browser.

Until you send some Nxt from your account, it will be protected only by 64-bit entropy. As soon as one outgoing transaction is made your account will receive a public key and it will be protected by 256-bit entropy, much more secure. As a result, we recommend issuing a transaction (by sending Nxt, registering an alias, or sending a message) as soon as possible after Nxt is deposited into your account for the first time.

just ensure your passphrases is complex and secure ...
One more thing is you should make an outgoing transaction. Your full public key isn't saved into the blockchain until you do. Almost any type of transaction will suffice, send yourself 1 burst, or buy an alias, or set your account name.

Assuming this is you:

shows if your key is saved or not

Alright, I have come up with another question...

I have a system with 3 2TB drives in it. I am currently plotting them all, my question is this... Do I need to run multiple copies of the miner? Or will the one miner see all 3 drives? Right Now I have 3 copies running and it seems to work, but yea, I would like to know if I actually have to do that or not.

Thanks!

you can use mklink in windows or ln -s in linux, to mapping files in just one drive, then you can just open one miner.

If you are going to use one miner with different plot files be sure to NOT use overlapping nonces.

I used the random generated one it presented to me. Will this suffice?

I'm going to give mining on a 1TB drive until this Saturday morning. If I find 2 blocks in 48 hours, I will up my mining. I have access to get the following at a heavy discount:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8898905
will it be worth it?

a normal 3,5" 4tb/6tb drive + external case is less expensive ...

Hey guys one question, my 500 GB is full now and no more extra space on my hard drive.. Can i now keep mining on that plots or i cant find a block this way? I dunno what to do lol

Just keep on mining.  It's like saying you've built a 5MHS scrypt rig and have run out of GPU's.  Can you still mine?  Of course!  Your plots are always working for you.  Buying another HD and filling it with plots is like building another traditional rig.

I've put up a few offers for sale but no messages about them. Not sure whether the fact that we can only solo mine will effect the price positive or negative since its harder to get coins but you get so many....

I Guess akula999 found his way around after PM.
Well, i wish him luck!

Edit: Confirmed: He is up and running and generating plots.
Thanks crypto, after many "pissed off" moments, i've sort of figured it out - thanks to you!
When/If I find a block, i will send some your way. Hopefully I'll find something.

Eventually everyone finds a few blocks. The bigger your plot file, the better.

Still interested in buying, but I can't seem figure out how many coins in total supply, so I'm not sure of a fair price.

I was offered 40K for .1BTC, but for my calculations that is a 1MM market cap, which is overvalued.

Anyone willing to come in at 100K market cap for .1BTC?

Good luck mate in finding such an offer! This  will be hard to find.

Why?

Burst is a brand new coin, with a difficult to setup wallet. Why would it be valued at above, lets say, Vertcoin, at 700K USD?

Everyone that is currently mining accomplished that with the help of the community. The coin is just a few days old and on ANN we are @page 74!

The setup is indeed a bit hard but once you get the hang of it it's simple and makes expanding a piece of cake.
Anyone here is having fun with the setup. You won't be able to buy the fun they have at that price.

But, look around the previous posts. there are quite some members willing to sell (but not at that price).

yeah mining this coins is fun, its bring new perspective like... abusing VPS !

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation.

as you notice, I have 112GB RAM, and most of them are free, how to use it to improve my plot creation performance ?

use -Xmx8191m instead?!

damn this machine is awesome ...

you can get it free from Azure

i was hoping that restarting wouldn't impact mining

is there a way to tell your hash rate , to compair setting or from my computer to a better computer

Every nounce you've created is a hash so hashrate is defined by available plots, machine power doesn't really matter, faster hdd does a bit but my machine scans 3 TB in about 2 minutes (i7 with two normal 2 tb drives) with cpu running at 10% and hdd at 80% xD
That seems horribly slow. I'm using a few external USB3 2TB hdds using stagger of 8191, and it takes about 15 seconds to scan. What type/inteface drives and what stagger are you using?

I like to share a little tool I wrote to increase stagger size for already finished plots. No more 8191 limit!

Its simple C code - for linux only - its short, so check & compile yourself.

https://bchain.info/merge.c

It does not hold everything in memory but seeks on disk to get the scoops.
This is a great idea, but I'm not sure your implementation is right. Why are you subtracting bytes in the size in the pread and write statements, and adding bytes in the offsets?

YEAH!! Dev is online.
