Just a mini update.

Im currently speaking to a couple of designers that will be able to help us make the OP more appealing.

It'd be great to have some what of a standardised color scheme, (Black&Gold) or (White&Gold) for the OP and the new wallet look.

Also we need a clear plan and projected dates so we can hand the ideas over to the designer so he can make an amazing looking roadmap.

Coming soon....

-New wallet makeover
-Android app (Throne monitoring tool)
-Update to latest DASH code for Thrones
-Update to 0.10 Bitcoin core
New forum OP design and roadmap

Other big news has yet to be released to the public.

I have been playing with thrones on AWS using micro instances of Ubuntu 16.04...

I stopped one of the thrones yesterday and put some dummy info into the Crowncoin.conf file and took an image of it.  Copied that image to all the other geographies I saw on AWS and made all those images public.

In the short term this is definitely not in my best interest for increasing the amount my thrones mine... but I'm not worried about that -- I am a newbie and learning from working with the coin and the software and it's not worth anything if we all don't help build the community around it and uses for it... and part of that is making the throne setup easier.

Generally speaking, if you have your throne on a platform where you can take an image, you can launch a new instance from that image and then just update the crowncoin.conf file and restart crowncoind to sync the blockchain, and voila -- you have a new throne server set up (you still need to go back to the local wallet and start the throne to associate your wallet with the remote server so you can receive payments)...

Literally, if you want to play with AWS or already know it... log in and go to EC2 and launch an instance.  You will be able to choose from different sets of images, click the COMMUNITY AMI tab and then search for "CRW" -- the images I put out there are titled "CRW-THRONE-PRELOAD" and are listed as being "other Linux" operating system -- probably just because in building the throne we made modifications to the original Unbuntu.

Follow the AWS instructions for connecting to your instance (and if you have issues check you security setting in AWS -- they have their own firewalls outside the instance firewalls and you want to set those in a parallel fashion to the way the throne set up instructions limit access to port 22 and open up port 9340).

Once logged in to your instance type (what's to the left of the ">" is just symbolizing the prompt):
~> cd .crowncoin
~.crowncoin> nano crowncoin.conf

[this will open the editor and you can update the rpcuser, rpcpassword, external ip & throne private key to what you need or want them to be.]

type ctrl + o, and then return to save your changes.
type ctrl + x to exit the text editor.

~.crowncoin> chmod 444 crowncoin.conf

[locks the crowncoin.conf file]

~.crowncoin> cd
~> cd src/crowncoin/src
~src/crowncoin/src> ./crowncoid

[at this point is should tell you that the crowncoin server has started and it is syncing the blockchain... the good news is that it already has the blockchain up to 10/12/2016 -- so this shouldn't take long.]

if you want to check on the progress of the sync just type "./crowncoin-cli getinfo" -- but if you are trying to operate at peak efficiency, if it said the server is started it's started so now you can leave the session and go to your local wallet.  If you had already updated your throne.conf file there -- then just go to Help > Debug and click on the Console tab...

At the prompt in the console tab, type:
>throne start-alias [throne alias in quotes] [WalletPassPhrase]
such that if the throne alias were "Jack" and the passphrase were "Jill" (always fun to use the subjunctive case) you would type:
>throne start-alias "Jack" Jill

the console should inform you of your success... and if it doesn't, either you or I missed something...

This is my first time posting a Community AMI on AWS -- so I am kind of curious if it works.  What is of value to me is your trust and just making the world a little less frustrating -- so if this helps you and makes the throne set-up process easier -- that's awesome.

Awesome! thanks for posting this, and making it easy for people to setup thrones :-)

In the next step you choose the size/power etc of your instance.  To build the new throne I had to use a "small" instance due to memory limitations, but the images can be installed and run on a "micro" instance -- so once I had the throne installed I took a snapshot and launched a new micro instance and have been running thrones on AWS as micro instances.  If you are new to AWS you may be eligible for "free tier" services -- which really just means that you get 750 hours a month for your first year free and the micro instance is eligible for the free tier -- so this basically translates to something like getting your first throne free and then it looks like the cost is around $10 per month per throne based on how my daily AWS bill is stacking up...  which isn't cheap - but if you can save hours spinning things up and this also makes you more agile when the upgrade goes out -- it could be worth it...  I'm new to all this and just learning.

Follow the AWS instructions for connecting to your instance (and if you have issues check you security setting in AWS -- they have their own firewalls outside the instance firewalls and you want to set those in a parallel fashion to the way the throne set up instructions limit access to port 22 and open up port 9340).

Here is a sample of a Throne.conf (Throneprivkeys changed). In theory you can just append new thrones into existing throne.conf however there is a bug with start-many that means that if any of the thrones in your conf are already active, the new one's won't start.  This will be fixed in the next release.  The work around is to back up your throne.conf and then temporarily remove the ones that are already running.  Once the new ones have started, you can merge your backed up throne.conf and the new one.  Annoying but will be temporary.

We thank your people. The Hive has only one more question, hopefully. Does The Hive keep the crowncoin.conf and update "thrones=1" to "thrones=n"? Where n= number of total thrones? Or do we keep "thrones=1" written in crowncoin.conf and merely add in a throne.conf file to the Crowncoinfile with respective IP addresses, private keys....

The Hive's Throne Room will soon manifest.

Cordially,

~ The Hive ~

Keep Crowncoin.conf.  That is still used to specify wallet settings.

As you suggest, keep throne=1 in crowncoin.conf and add extra entries in throne.conf.

Throne=1 simply tells the wallet that it is controlling however many thrones are in throne.conf.

We absolutely have thought of services for the Crowncoin network, the current lead dev has the killer app but
he holds his cards close to his chest (understandable). I assure you Crowncoin will not be 'just another DASH clone' for long.
We have a real passion for the plans and ideas we have and think Crowncoin can benefit all Crypto currencies.

VPS - OVH or contact CHAOSiTEC... However you'd be doing crowncoin a fever if you could find another provider (decentralisation Tongue)

OVH = $3.50
Chaositec = $2.60

The Hive appreciates your help. What does a .conf file look like when there are multiple thrones? Do we have to make a brand new .conf file or is there a way to append new thrones into the existing .conf file.

The Hive is grateful for your assistance in building its Throne room.

I am curious about how frequently the thrones payout to their respective wallets?  Additionally, has anyone else had to run swapfile to supplement their virtual memory?  Lastly, I might be able to trouble shoot this, but utilizing the my throne section requires that you start the address there?  Or can I populate the requisite information manually?

Thank you for any insight

I find that I need a swap file when compiling on a VPS with less than 1GB of RAM.  In theory you don't need to make the swap file persistent to run Crowncoind but I make it persistent to make it easier to compile updates later on.

These are the commands I use for a 1GB swap on Debian and Ubuntu...

Code:
sudo mkdir -p /var/cache/swap/
sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/cache/swap/myswap bs=1M count=1024
sudo mkswap /var/cache/swap/myswap
sudo swapon /var/cache/swap/myswap

Then you need to insert a line into fstab to make sure the new swap file persists after reboot:

Code:
sudo nano /etc/fstab

Paste this line in:
/var/cache/swap/myswap    none    swap    sw    0   0

CTRL+o to write file

CTRL+x to exit nano

Firstly, currently you can expect anywhere from 18 - 28 CRW per day (Going from my payments).
Say the average is 23, that's

23crw*30days=690crw @ 0.00003107 per crowncoin = 0.0214383btc per month or $13.66

Secondly, stonehedge is your man for swap file info.. He uses these himself so i'm sure he can help you out  Smiley

lastly, the my throne tab is quite buggy (something thats being worked on right now)

Great to see CrownCoin Reached to 4000Satoshi from 3000 satoshi.. Undoubtly feeling proud to be a part of it somehow(as their signature campaign manager. I don't feel bad if I get some credit for this.  Grin Grin Grin)

Great Work Dev..

Credit where credit is due.  Good work spreading the word!  Also props to who had the signature designed, it looks very sleek and polished.

I don't know if anyone cares to address my earlier comment regarding how thrones will proceed after the blocks are mined out.  Will the services be generating their own revenue or perhaps the thrones getting a % of transactions fees?

Thank you

We are currently in a high level discussion about the future of crowncoin and thrones, and if it goes in the direction im thinking of, then we will end up with a system where thrones are in the heart of it all, i cannot disclose anything more at the moment, but trust me, alot of things are being looked at and discussed.

Thank you

Yes, a very thorough discussion is currently going on across the dev team. I have seen your post and a reply will be given soon - matter of few weeks.

Apart from anything, we're a Bitcoin clone with Namecoin and Dash features.  I think that is enough to classify us as NOT another DASH clone, at least until we launch our services!

In a few days we'll even be on a newer Bitcoin code base than DASH.

Please don't interpret my post as a dig at CRW in particular, or any disrespect for your team's work so far.  I like the "traditional" - for want of a better word, hopefully you know what I mean - aspect your current branding approach brings, and I'll try to play to that in the suggestions I'll be making WRT the UX/UI side of things.

I was in bigger-picture mode, that's all.

I would suggest that the CRW team start thinking about how CRW might provide actually useful services to people via your overlay network. Services that might actually provide a revenue stream and thus increase the market desirability of your digital token.

Go look at the CPU stats on your VPS's - they spend 99% of their time doing absolutely nothing. There are dozens of Dash clones, none of them do anything useful.

We would like to agree with the above statements, specially the aspect about revenue generating services. It is probable that the dev team has thought of useful services that will generate value. They just haven't told us yet. Much hush hush around this, due to protecting IP.

RE: VPSs. What services do the denizens of CRW use?

^( '-' )^ | The Hive would like to set up its very own Throne room. | ^( '-' )^

We see Vultr could work for 5 USD / month. But we might want one that's less expensive.

OVH = $3.50
Chaositec = $2.60
