There is nothing wrong with the coin chain. The seed nodes are way overloaded at the moment so it may take a while for you to get a connection. Someone posted some addnodes earlier but im sure those are full too

Thanks Cartman.  Once I have the blockchain downloaded I'll have another p2pnode (cartman git) running!

Cool, the more nodes the better Smiley
All found blocks are simultaneously announced across all the node wallets so the p2pool chances of winning against orphans is high.
There are so many benefits to p2pool over pushpools (In my opinion) but they do require that you configure your miner correctly. Bad miners can have a negative effect on a node seen by high DOAs. P2Pools are like solo mining but you get the benefit of the combined hash rate. Any miner who want to maximize their mining I feel should run a p2pool node Smiley

Note: I should point out that one of the drawbacks is a bunch of smaller payments to your wallet.

Is there a problem with the blockchain right now?

I just compiled from Git source and launched casinocoind and I cannot download the blockchain, getting errors:

One of the short term needs would be a CasinoCoin block explorer. The ones listed are no longer active, so establishing a CSC block explorer would be extremely helpful.
Sure thing! CasinoCoin block explorer live in:

Github updated with working block explorer:

How do I solo-mine CasinoCoin? I know the basics, but I remember previously when I tried mining solo some other scrypt currencies, I've had so many rejects that the final income was significantly lower than I'd make by mining with a pool.. are there some particular cgminer options that I specify for solo-mining?

Yo straight up unless you have a crap ton of power your solo will not preform as well as this http://casinocoin.coinarmy.com We where solo mining for a long time before we started the pool and the rate at which we found blocks increased substationally once we got the pool going and so many people joined. Cheesy

But if you really want to solo.

Download wallet from Casino Coin
Open Wallet.
Then Close the wallet immediately after it opens.
Setup casinocoin.conf and place in appdata/casinocoin directory. (search google for casinocoin.conf for sample)
Then run the wallet from command prompt Winkey+R cmd, and cd directory/to/casinocoinprogram then hit enter. Then type casinocoin-qt.exe -server
It will re-open in server mode.
Connect your minner to 127.0.0.1

and you will be off. Cheesy

VARDIFF doesn't seem to be working.  I just mined for a little bit with 2750 Kh/s and it never increased past a difficulty of 2.

Hehehehe oh its working. The CSC coin difficulty just jump to 3 man. Keep an eye on it! Wink

I think you misunderstand what I'm talking about.  I'm not talking about the network difficulty.  I'm talking about the share difficulty that's listed in cgminer.  VARDIFF is short for variable difficulty and it's supposed to adjust depending on your hash rate.  A higher hash rate gets a higher difficulty and therefore gets sent tougher shares to solve.

I also forgot to mention that Cgminer rounds the number. You cannot see .something on it. It is always a whole number never 2.98 or anything. End if you look at the block stats we are finding blocks while Cgminer displays 3, proving that it rounds the numbers. Smiley

Hehe, ok.  It still doesn't sound like you understand what I'm talking about.  The number I'm referring to never has decimal places, it's always a whole number.  It's also never been set to 2 and stayed that low, ever.  I've mined in a lot of VARDIFF pools and the lowest share difficulty I've been assigned was probably 64.

Edit:  Just checked again and VARDIFF finally increased it from 2 to 540, much better.  I've never seen VARDIFF take that long to adjust, but better late than never.

Edit2:  Aaaand now it's back to 2 again haha.  Something is definitely not right with VARDIFF.
[/quote]

Thank you very much for pointing this out. I did indeed misunderstand you. We have it all tuned up now and rocking. We have been finding blocks almost every 1 to 2 minutes now! Cheesy

Sorry about that for sure my bad. Thank you for making sure I understood! Cheesy

First off, I just wanted to say thanks for the overwhelming responses and support for CasinoCoin! Hearing from people looking to volunteer their services for the overall betterment of CasinoCoin has been humbling and uplifting at the same time. Fortunately, my recent diagnosis doesn't affect longevity of life, but it does indeed effect quality of life, so I thereby can't overextend myself as I have in the past. Knowing that a team is forming now really makes me excited of what's to come with CasinoCoin! I will be in contact in the next few days with some of you who have contacted me, so please be patient.

@casinocoin:
Thank you for gracefully handling the decision to not launch CAC / CasinoCoin 2.0. While I agree with some of the posters on here that a potential partnership would be ideal, I respect your decision with the launch of a new coin.

Since the launch of CasinoCoin, I strategically never had the intention to build out my own casino. The idea was to build tools to help developers build out casino applications that integrate with CasinoCoin. The reason why I wanted to separate coin from casino and not directly get into the casino business by starting my own is the looming legality issues of operating an illegal gambling business, especially here in the United States where I am based and have no intention of relocating due to my current circumstances. Hypothetically speaking, if the casino that I were to have developed and operate were to be legally taken down and I was in legal peril, that could jeopardize the ongoing development of the coin. I am however in full support of those that currently run casino operations and would like to integrate CSC and those that are developing online casino gaming applications. That's why I was excited to hear about you and your team's current efforts to build an online casino. If you decide to integrate CasinoCoin into your gaming application, I would be more than happy to stake a CasinoCoin loan from my personal stack to help you fund the house stack. I'm also open to any collaboration efforts. Else, if you need assistance with anything coin related, I'm here.

@trdiablo:
I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I can understand your point of view given the circumstances that followed my return. CasinoCoin isn't intended to be a pump & dump. While I must admit I sold off about 3% of my personal stack in this recent value rise, I did so out of excitement from the fact that CSC has never reached these levels before as far as I could recall. The funds will be used to pay off CSC infrastructure costs. But rest assure that I am in this for the long haul.

@itsjar:
Short term plans are to fix up the core infrastructure and re-establishing the CasinoCoin forums in order to eliminate the massive spam that I've been experiencing. Many volunteers have contacted me on the marketing and engineering fronts, and I will be establing contact with them on how they can contribute. Once everything is re-established, I have an interesting side project that I would like to pursue related to CasinoCoin. I was fortunate enough to receive a pair of Google Glass recently, and my plan is to download and fool around with the Glass Software Development Kit with the intent of building a Bitcoin / Litecoin / CasinoCoin price ticker app for Google Glass. I'd like to have it ready prior to the official launch of Google Glass to the public so that anyone interested in Bitcoin would be downloading the app and would see CasinoCoin listed as well, which might spark some interest in CasinoCoin since only BTC/LTC/CSC will be listed. I'm really looking forward to messing around with development on Google Glass!

@Prinzert:
Infrastructure wise, it looks like CasinoCoin currently has 3 pushpools and 4 p2pools. Additional pools would be useful in spreading out the hashrate and increasing security. One of the short term needs would be a CasinoCoin block explorer. The ones listed are no longer active, so establishing a CSC block explorer would be extremely helpful.

@judyballhairy:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.3926432
I couldn't have said so any better myself Smiley
As for the forums, at first I wanted to avoid blowing it up and recreating from scatch, but it looks like I might be heading down this path in addition to employing additional anti-spam techniques and suggestions from MinerInTheShire.

@MinerInTheShire:
Any SPAM eliminating ideas/scripts will be EXTREMELY helpful! In the past I found I spent more time attempting to eliminate spam then time spent communicating with the community! I will reach out to you in the next few days.

@human:
Your services with the client update will be much appreciated! Do you have a GitHub profile? I really like the idea of setting a CasinoCoin Foundation and a separate wallet to manage bounty allocations. I just started one with a modest 5000 CSC (which I'll add to as needed in the future) at the following address: CcG1Wm8ugYhjMeUUa7EeFkWJEpMV3Dhy6p (we welcome your donations). I'll be in touch in the next few days.

@murderouskirk and @SirSavary:
I appreciate the enthusiasm! Once your pool is up, let me know the details and I will update the first post. I will be in contact with you guys in the next few days.

I'm also seeking a developer proficient in Java to help with the port of BitcoinJ to CasinoCoinJ. PM me if you are interested.

If I missed anyone, please send me a PM and I will get back to you.

One thing that I've noticed that is pretty annoying is constantly changing share difficulty. Example:

[2013-12-12 19:31:17] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 721.128538
[2013-12-12 19:31:17] Stratum from pool 0 requested work restart
[2013-12-12 19:31:18] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 610.394723
[2013-12-12 19:31:18] Stratum from pool 0 requested work restart
[2013-12-12 19:31:26] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 587.288722
[2013-12-12 19:31:26] Stratum from pool 0 requested work restart
[2013-12-12 19:31:30] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 425.892274

Instead of sending a work restart/share diff change every 5-10 seconds, maybe cap it to a min of 45 seconds. I am pretty sure that having to do these computations for every miner so often is what is causing load issues, not to mention it increases the likelihood of stales.
The low diff adjustment is needed for casinocoin, and it only affects the amount of shares you get from the p2pool, it doesn't affect your earnings because everyone has the same "issue". It's not really an issue, it's just the way p2pools need to operate on fast coins.

Also you should not use --no-submit-stale, because if you find a block and your miner considers it as stale, it will not submit it. Even when it might still be a valid block against CasinoCoin block chain (p2pool has its own block chain).

Please be very careful when changing parameters and connecting to other p2pool nodes! If you try to reconnect you MUST delete the casinocoin folder in the p2pool data folder and all the parameters MUST match the other nodes.

I know, but it's a fair warning thanks!

URGENT UPDATE~~~  http://casinocoin.coinarmy.com
Ok guys I have figured out what is going on and fixed it for now. We where maxing out our systems because of our Member growth. We have just upgraded to a system that will only support 80 Active minners. This is for now.

Great news Rendering - glad you've got things sorted, know the reasons and are introducing the cap to what your hardware can handle so that things run smoothly. I can only imagine that you've had a stressful few days, thanks for the effort and handwork you've put in for us miners! Smiley

Thank you! That really means a lot to me to get good feedback, been sooooo stressed out the last week with this but finally I am on the home stretch to growth! Cheesy
