Hello all!
Yesterday I saw that the dash daemon got updated and that version 12.0.48 is required for masternode operators. Is there a way to be notified when a new version is released? Had I not been out looking on dash.org yesterday than I would still be running 12.0.46 today.

Are there any announcement features on the dash forums? I don't recall seeing anything on twitter either. Should we look into having some notifications via the git repository?
How do you other keep up to date on whenever a new client / daemon is released?

Thinking of starting a Masternode?

My guide "TAO'S MASTERNODE SETUP GUIDE FOR DUMMIES" has finally (sorry) been updated to include the very important Masternode.conf file, so if you use that guide you will be sure to have the very latest information:

I just wanted to note that newbies, especially, can and should go to the testnet section and download a testnet wallet to play with.  You can get coins at the faucet, mine in your wallet (please, no heavy hashing, it messes up the block generation when people stop and leave us with a high difficulty) and learn all there is to learn.  If you decide to create some kind of file system for yourself, or use up tons of keys, and forget to save your wallet, well, it'll only be test-Dash you lost!

You can also explore things and "spend" tDash over and over without losing any real funds.  Try out Private Send, and Instant Send until you feel 200% comfortable with the system.  Practice getting information on the command line, become a pro!  A list of commands are always available with the --help command!

In the mean time, if you try out something "wrong" and screw up the whole network, you will have done us a great favor!  And I'm the Queen of stupid questions, but if you want to challenge me, I promise to be friendly (and everyone else is very friendly there) and I'll help any time I see a question (it just can take a few hours sometimes Tongue )

Have fun!

How do you know if it's testnet? (or how do you make it a testnet wallet?)  All you do is open up your dash.conf file (the one in your /appdata/roaming/dash folder (different for different operating systems) and include the line: testnet=1  It will create a new folder in there called testnet3 and that folder looks just like your appdata/roaming/dash folder only it uses test dash.  You never need a dash.conf file in there, only a masternode.conf file.  All other changes you may want to make in your dash.conf file, you do in the main one in the main dash folder.  When you start your test wallet, it should be an orange startup screen instead of blue, but the wallet has normal graphics.

Of course, if you want to run a testnet masternode, you will need to add other information to your dash.conf file.  It's just like any other dash.conf file that runs a masternode except you will use the port number 19999 and that is the same for any addnodes you may want to include.

In the future, Dash will have a pretty idiot proof wallet system that is as easy to use as PayPal, but by joining us and learning the inner workings of the wallet, you will also learn about the inner workings of Dash while the technology advances.  And tDash is always open, even when no testing is going on.  So don't be shy!  Comon in, the water's warm!

This invitation is more for you the user, because it's really a great way to get your feet wet with this technology without the fear.  Sometimes the big boys will seem to "ignore" you but that's because they're concentrating on heavy stuff.  I think that testnet has turned into something where everyone helps each other out, but when we get stumped, if there is a real problem, we call it to the attention of a developer, like flare or something.  Those "big boys" are always talking on slack anyway, so don't fear cluttering up the testnet forum ( https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/v12-1-testnet-launch-thread.9014/page-18#post-96421 ) because I'm mostly alone in there, and I definitely don't bite.  I always have more questions than answers there too Cheesy  So join me!!!  Lets learn together!

There is something funky going on with DashWhale.  It reported my MN payment correctly, but didn't update the balance of the account.  They must be messing with the code  ;P

I had a node that dashwhale showed no payment for 14 days,  then i check a block explorer and it actually received a payment that DW wasn't seeing...So every once in a while, if you see a 12 or 14 day period,  check out another block explorer for the MN address to see if it really wasn't paid.

Shame you weren't using an "obscured blockchain" tech with zip public consensus as to what did and didn't go on.

You could've sue'd the network for non-payment of funds. Then they could've sued Dashwhale for faulty reporting of transactions. Then Dashwhale could have counter-sued citing "their" version of the chain as evidence (which would of course have been intact).

And thats just when everyone's trying to be  good citizens. Wait till the "bad citizens" arrive and start deliberately mis-reporting the chain all over the place for self-gain. Then the fun really starts.

At least your funds would've been "private" the whole time. (Thats if you could ever get any consensus as to what they were Wink  )

EDIT: Dashwhale DNS working properly again. Remote reporting is back to normal.
12 days since last payment for one node...it's about time for it to win the lottery Smiley

Just a heads up,   I had a node that dashwhale showed no payment for 14 days,  then i check a block explorer and it actually received a payment that DW wasn't seeing.    Wallet also showed the 2 dash payment.    So every once in a while, if you see a 12 or 14 day period,  check out another block explorer for the MN address to see if it really wasn't paid.

Other times I've gone 14 days without payment but that was a long time ago....

Well I'll be damned... what a great advice WastedLTC. I should have thought of that myself!
I see that the node was in fact paid 5 days ago and not 13 as reported by Dashwhale. The total balance is correct, just that the payment date wasn't showing up as it should.

Anyone else having problems at Dashwhale right now? Both my masternodes are showing warnings but I can't login at check them at the moment. The VPS respond to ping so I am thinking (hoping) that it is a Dashwhale issue?

Yeah, one of my nodes that got paid did not register with dashwhale a few days ago and now shows 11 days since last payment. First time i have had that issue.
Dashwhale is great and something i use everyday.

I'll take that as an affirmation you are an actual, in the wild, Dash Maximalist.
A BTC maximalist is one who thinks that BTC can do everything and there is no need for things like ethereum etc. Someone who points out how DASH is better than BTC is not a DASH maximalist.

Using zero-knowledge proofs and homomorphic functions (ring signatures and stealth addresses) to give users the power to configure their own visible/invisible blockchain settings is a significant advancement in the evolution of economic sovereignty.
Except to do so (configure their own visible/invisible blockchain settings) with monero would require running multiple wallets with separate view keys last i checked. Even a small charity would have to run several monero wallets. A larger charity for say battered women would need to run a separate wallets for every person they help/sent money to. Just to comply with banking and healthcare related laws for said charity would take several wallets with separate view keys. An official GUI wallet would probably help manage all those wallets but not much!  Grin

Or you could just use a single DASH wallet, problem solved.

OTOH, Dash's bad crypto (broken/rebranded CoinJoin + broken/rebranded GreenAddress) and snake oil (HYIP) marketing make me depressed about the state of humanity.
Broken?

ICEBREAKER, long time no see! Maybe you could help me with a little problem I'm having:

Dash De-anonymization Contest

Icebreaker and other trolleros: I have donated $1 to Monero's development team. I sent 0.25 Dash (TX ID: 59d51690d4b56ddbf1e393fa8d3a49bcfc3247f270f36be3b6ee411802666cba-000) to shapeshift.io, which converted it to Bitcoin and sent it to the official Monero donation address listed at https://getmonero.org/getting-started/donate/.

I challenge you to de-anonymize this transaction. To make it just a little easier, I only used four rounds of Darksend, so it's exponentially less private than it would be with the maximum eight rounds.

Please tell me what address this transaction originated from.

Cheers!

i see nobody has been able to de-anonymize this 4 round transaction.

You know, I get busy, but when I get the chance, I start reading stuff here.  Anyway, I just slowed down and re-read Evan's post on testnet for 12.1, and it's so enlightening on what is going on in the core team right now - laying out the road map.  I read it before when it was first posted, but thought I'd encourage anyone interested in giving it a look Smiley  We've been testing 2 1/2 weeks now, and it's chugging along.

I just had to re-login so maybe something was up, but is now rebooted?  Do you still have this problem?

I just saw that a new client was released, so I'm updating it now to 12.0.57
Apparently the Dashwhale server is relocating, so the problem is DNS related:

rango: 21 minutes ago  Dashwhale has been moved to a new server. You may see some masternode warnings within the next hours until new DNS settings have properly propagated.
