Just curious about the reasoning behind this move.

Decoupling from BTC by force of arbitrage.

Rumour has it there is a large whale who is making a stand at 2 USD / ~0.0084 XBT.
Not a rumour, Otoh has placed the dollar order on Cryptsy of around 21,000 Dash(posted way back, about it)
He will be happy to mop up the dumpers, and has been known to keep topping the order up on previous occasions and always kept to his word, I dare you to dare him  Grin

What I am wondering about is why he is putting up this wall on the DASH/USD market, whereas the DASH/BTC market has way more volume. DASH had a relatively high volume day today (aggregate of all exchanges), but there is only $77 volume on the Cryptsy DASH/USD pair. Furthermore, I think a wall in that particular market isn't really going to work, since most dumpers want BTC anyway. I imagine it's quite a hassle to get your USD out of Cryptsy as well. Just curious about the reasoning behind this move.

The problem with this is even if Otoh does do what you say, if he is the only large whale keeping up the price...he is also the likely the only large whale that is keeping the price from dumping.

One person can't keep the price up nor down.

Sorry but that isn't how markets work (free ones that is - where you can view the order book).

looks to me like support is going to break...unless a whale comes to the rescue...

WoooW a legendary FUDDER Grin

How is it FUD if my call actually materialized in what 2 hours after I posted the image?

It has come to this where many users of this thread instantly claim "TROLL!" or "FUDSTER!" if anything goes against their financial interests or we someone merely disagrees with them.

Very sad community here.  Roll Eyes

I was thinking how I could possibly get the people in my class to listen to a presentation on Bitcoin and Dash, and realized it wasn't going to work.  They're not... I mean, I might as well be trying to sell scientology Sad

Lets convert them !!

edit : eh, how many members do they have again ? I say we start with Tom Cruise... maybe a bit of Dash use in Mission Impossible 6 ?

It would help if I could express myself better, LOL Tongue

I didn't mean to suggest that you hadn't. I just wanted to point out that to get a fuller picture one needs to look at how much or how little of the coin supply is changing hands - not just at what price.

If I sold someone 1 Dash for 0.004 bitcoin, and that was recorded as the most recent trade then it would look like the whole market had crashed to 50% of it's value. No-one would know that I only traded 1 Dash for a laugh - it would seem like the entire market had capitulated from looking at the price alone. Thats why one must look at the volume before making up one's mind about how meaningful price movements are.

People are so short sighted and, IMO, often greedy to the point where they lose money Smiley .

You need to look at the volume.

It's going down on very little volume. What that reflects is lack of buyers rather than too many sellers. There's been barely the odd cashout over the last couple of weeks. In a bear market period, the buyers will simply wait till utter capitulation occurs before deciding to enter.

In fact, Dash is doing pretty good in comparison with other cryptos. Despite what smoothie says about "needing a whale", he needs to check his own backyard before making comments like that. His beloved "privacy coin" went down on massive volume compared to Dash's decline. Dash most definitely does not need a whale to recover.

Yah, that's what I was unsuccessfully trying to say.  It would help if I could express myself better, LOL Tongue

We are indeed at the point where we need to get the word out and more people into this space.  We need to spread out, we need more people to get involved at an exponential rate.  Unfortunately, people in general aren't ready for us.  I was thinking how I could possibly get the people in my class to listen to a presentation on Bitcoin and Dash, and realized it wasn't going to work.  They're not... I mean, I might as well be trying to sell scientology Sad

I have my own little crazy conspiracy complot about that, just think about the following :

We have an important event coming up in a few days were Dash will be in the spotlights and just before that event
the price dips below 0.01 creating a perfect buy signal for potential new customers that will be looking into Dash after that
meeting. Its much better that the price will be on its low than on its high range when dealing with these kind of events.....

So to conclude this little crazy conspiracy plot i'm thinking heavy price manipulation, to have the price get to a certain
desireable price range for the upcoming event.

Well, you might be right since most of the movement was happening with tiny buys and sells initiated by bots Tongue

ImI, We're all looking forward to a talk at Bitcoin Wednesday in Amsterdam that several Dash people will be talking at including Evan.  I'm not so sure it will reach that many people, unless they make a very nice video?  I sure hope they do, and that that video is released right away (it can be edited to be pretty later, man, let us see it ASAP PPPPPPPPPPPlease!!!!)

Wow, I haven't been paying attention to the crypto market for a long time, and I just looked at coinmarketcap.com and was pretty surprised at how badly Dash is doing.  It's down to #7 and it's the only one that's been doing a smooth dive.  Very weird.  Interesting weird.

Maybe it really is because people are so short sighted about the budgeting system?  They don't like it that funds are taken out of the block rewards and used to improve Dash, market Dash, etc...  I think that's exceedingly short sighted.  But that's ok.  It is probably the most important innovation so far for Dash and CryptoCurrencies to date, perhaps ever.  People are so short sighted and, IMO, often greedy to the point where they lose money Smiley

That's not the question I asked. I mean do they have some legal concerns or something?

No, it was some technical glitch. During the time it was stuck, if you looked at the JSON data, you could see that there were a couple of trades with a wrong date stamp. Oct 3 to be exact. So in the last few months, it ignored all other data because it believed it to be too old. Now that we've passed the timestamps of the invalid entries, it's moving again.

But why was this glitch IP country-based?

Is it something to do with date format, how usa has month first ?
