Am I mistaken in "assuming" that this testnet round alone has had more versions than the entire lifecycle of competitor's coin?

In some cases, ten fold? Actually, if you loosely consider what a competitor is... this round of testnet has had more versions than all of them put together.

Yet... "they" come here and complain... instead of coding, fixing, breaking, fixing, testing, fixing, etc...

Are we going live on wednesday? Is v12 fixed?

V12 is at a very advanced stage, but it is very important to make as much corrections and adjustments as possible in testnet, before we go to mainnet to minimize the need to have multiple versions after the mainnet launch.  For example, we are currently on v12.0.41, that is 41 different versions since we opened testnet, that is without a doubt the largest amount of revisions we have done for a new version before launch ever. And still there are some changes needed.

Still, once we go to mainnet is more cumbersome to have all exchanges, pools, services and users update. So better to fine tune as much as possible on testnet, because even when you do there is still a possibility you will need some changes on mainnet. In this new version we are reaching important milestones like eliminating the reference node.

Any date is still a loose date it may be a few more days to make everything perfect, there is not really any particular rush.

Agree. Don't rush and be sure it's rock solid before we release.

Unfortunately there's another client hanging issue that needs to be found before we can launch. I'll work on this today and then we'll launch once we're sure it's stable.

Hence my question. Are we ready for tomorrow?

What you describe is a BUG - not a BROKEN DASH - words selection is everything....

It'll be ready when it's ready.... you should know this

Development time-line is not written in stone....

Exactly. Will be ready when it's ready. Then why giving dates like wednesday?

Quantum entangled and jump drive assisted messages
We(my friends and i)  missed the first few hours of mining  as we were struggling to get our Miners together to take part.   I had only managed 4 desktop computers mining.   I remember those first couple weeks of the excitement of knowing we had stumbled on something special... And what a ride this has been... And what amazing development from those humble beginnings.

Great times and no matter what ANYONE troll says... This has the most promise of any of the majority of alt coins.  Proud to have been part of this since the beginning!
Same here, we only had 4 office machines with 10 cores but even so managed to mine 1 masternode of coins, best bit of mining have ever done on such mediocre machines, thats what I call a fair launch.
Most of the other alt coins at the time were having massive amounts of hashing dumped on them from the beginning.
(Loved your bike btw, I bet riding around Canada is really cool with lots of quiet roads, fresh air and stunning scenary)

I have a identical masternode setup on both servers, but the right one uses much more traffic. I'm a little bit scared if the 100GB will last for this one until end of the month. Solutions please? maybe 0.12 update will fix it anyway. Maybe it were only this 2 large peaks who caused massive traffic and its ok now.

Did you try adjusting max connections?

maxconnections=20

does not work for me - hummmmm...  ever
I still get 30-40 connections

thoughts?
will be fixed in v12  Smiley

EDIT: hopefully  Grin

Asking an OCD troll to stop lying is like asking a schizophrenic bald man to stop stealing other people's hair combs.

Fun fact... No one tried to hide anything.

Evan wanted to relaunch, the community said NO ...  For more than a year now, and official statement has bee issued.

Launch

It was January 18, 2014 and I had everything ready or so I thought. I announced the launch of Darkcoin (XCoin at the time) on BitcoinTalk. We launched later and immediately got stuck on block 42, I was new to the Bitcoin codebase and wasn’t sure what I missed so I announced we’d relaunch later.

When we relaunched we had a rush of miners join causing a huge spike of coin production without it being able to adjust the difficulty quick enough, we just ended up spilling out coins. Retargeting happened every 576 blocks and could only increase the difficulty by four times, so it took about six retargets to get to a difficulty that was near 2.5 minutes per block.

Later on, after the difficulty evened out we realized that there was a serious problem with the block reward calculation. You can see people discussing the problems here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.120

I soon fixed this issue at block 4500, but none of us realized the amount of coins that had been issued at the time. At that point we didn’t even have a block explorer yet.

Growth

Right after block 4500 is when I started working on DarkSend. I was trying to create a proof-of-concept and eventually I succeeded, I posted about it and our coin started to become more popular by the day. This is when the coin became a serious project of mine.

Later on we switched to 11111.0 / ((Difficulty+51.0)/6.0)^2), these formulas proved to be much more powerful incentives to drive up the difficulty than I thought they would. Soon after we switched to (2222222.0 / ((Difficulty+2600.0)/9.0)^2.0), targeting a difficulty of about 3400.

In the end?

Darkcoin started from a few months of me thinking about ways to create a better coin and a couple weekends of coding. It wasn’t till later that we got established and I really started taking this seriously. Anyone can compare our recent efforts to the sorted past and see things are going much smoother. No one really knew how much this would blow up (in a good way) and how popular it would be, otherwise I would have took my time in the beginning.

But hey, sure, keep at it. No one is nauseated yet.
Great post G.

I was there and remembered phoning a buddy of mine about x coin /darkcoin immediately upon the xcoin/darkcoin announcement.  What a stroke of very good luck for some of us in the beginning.  I was new to all this, other then investing in Bitcoin and was snooping around this forum when I stumbled upon Evans post first starting this thread... What struck me immediately was the difference between devs of the other alt coins and darkcoin was that Evan posted his real name and bio right off the the bat.  This was what triggered the thought that I was dealing with something special... Someone willing to not hide behind some handle or faceless "dev" but willing to stick his neck out and be accountable.   Something that still to this day is not done with the majority of alt coins.

Guys guys guys i had no idea today would be "feed the trolls" day, why didn't you all warn me ?
I have noticed you all are trying to feed Dumb and Dumber at once and i gotta say that can't be healthy to those
two poor trolls and also the choice of food is very much up for debate.

What those poor hungry looking trolls really need is some nice slimey food that will help them with their sore throats
(you know, sore throats from all those lies and fud they are showering us with all day and pretty much all night)
so i'm donating some food to them that should keep them in good shape :

Enjoy yr meal trolls, you deserve it
