Shame no one betted me because they would have free Dash by now by saying after 16.11 PM, looks like the block came in slightly later than expected   Grin

I also found this post to be very informative and thought it could be for more people.

So yes there is ideology behind this coin : privacy, liberty, freedom, try to make the world less directed by "power" and more with the heart...

I hope that changing the name will not make the ideology behind it change too, otherwhise it will failed.

There's no ideology in something that nobody uses. The ideology's in the design, not the name. Vertoe is justified in leaving over not being consulted but less so over 'ideology'.

It's not a rock song that's being built here it's electronic money.

The name can easily be compromised without any loss of principle but the functionality can't. So Evan has got his priorities right in that regard.

no.

i left because i disagree darkcoin or however it will be called next year is not a decentralized entity. it never was but i ignored it as long as darkcoin was following the same path i was following. the path to total financial privacy. and thats why i am so upset about how this currency is lead by a single person. darkcoin is like an old conservative company with strong hierarchical comamnd structures and a single person on the top of the pyramid. evan duffield. the rebranding using a detergent name was just a step forward in creating something like apple or paypal. fuck this i tell you. what we need is a trustless, decentralized and anonymous currency. darkcoin is not decentralized as it still relies on a single person. and this reaches deep into the code base.

the core devs were just a bunch of volunteers exploited for the big thing. the extended darkcoin team was the same with even a lower place to sit on that pyramid. and what was the darkcoin foundation again? right, something to reserve some rights on some names and collect money. who nominated and voted for the foundation board? who does even know who are these guys? how did we learn about the foundation? from local news papers! the team listings kept counting names of people nobody ever noticed before. and they never committed anything visible to the community or the repository. and i was spending 25 hours a day monitory everything that happened in the darkcoin community for more than a year. the things going on here are fishy, intransparent and rely on a single entity.

i will get out and and will contribute to something decentralized and anonymous. i always hoped darkcoin could fill that void. i cant blame anyone to stay with this project. you are probably investors trying to win a gold donkey. or you are simply trying to exploit every possible vector of profit in the coins space. whatever. you are not here because darkcoin is something it claims to be.

if you disagree with my statement above, i dont care, but answer that simple question: what if evan duffield suddenly announces he quits the project tomorrow morning?

good luck

Some nice progress is made with the android wallet i noticed : https://github.com/HashEngineering/darkcoin-wallet/commits/release-4

Another topic : Any info on the dirty merge and fix of latest Bitcoin into Dash ? i read some info on it (seems there are some tools that Github provides
that let one merge and fix branches of code for compilation),  i was just wondering how lenghty such processs is

Thanks for the feedback on the Android Wallet updates.

Based on the feedback from various users on this forum and dashtalk.org, I am releasing the Version 4.18 Dash Wallet on Google Play.

After making sure everything is fine, the wallet will be updated to Bitcoin Wallet 4.27 and then more DarkSend / InstantX and Masternode support will be added.

I found this post to be very informative and thought it could be for more people.

As a Darkcoin Core developer I want to take the chance and comment on some claims made in this thread. First of all I agree with everyone claiming there is no perfect solution yet. Dark wallet, Shared coin, Coin shuffle, Monero and, no, not even Darkcoin are perfect yet. Everyone claiming his solution is perfect, is simply trying to catch investors. But let me comment on some technical claims which I can prove wrong.

"Coinjoin is proved broken."
> Yes and no. The origininal idea of coinjoin was flawed in finding other people who want to send coins, to mix them just-in-time and broadcast them to the network. This is indeed broken, as it is very simple to simply match inputs, outputs and timestemps to track back transactions through the blockchain.

"Darkcoin is implementing a broken Coinjoin."
> No. This statement is reaching back to a time in the beginning of 2014 where Darkcoin was using just-in-time-coinjoin to create Darksend transactions. This system was poor implemented, hard to use (hardly found people to mix with) and - indeed - broken. But in may 2014 evan duffield introduced a totally new approach by implementing ahead-of-time mixing. You simply leave your wallet open and mix with other clients coins, you can do that 2 times, 4 times, 16 times, just mix your coins as much as you want. And as soon as you wish to send a transaction, your coins are already completely premixed and untracable. This is no magic and working with the darkcoin core reference client for more than half a year now.

"Darkcoin is closed source."
> No. Darkcoin was open sourced in september 2014.

"Masternodes are centralized point of failure."
> No. Masternodes are equal nodes in a p2p network with a special dedicated purpose. They are as decentralized as any other p2p application. Everyone is able to set up a masternode anywhere he likes. All you need is a 1000 DRK input to start the node, this is required to avoid the network getting attacked by massive amounts of vulnerable nodes. Currently there are around 2000 darkcoin masternodes running and securing the network, they are operated by alot of different users all over the world. Its a decentralized p2p network within the main darkcoin p2p network.

"Darkcoin does not provide anonymity."
> Yes and no. Darkcoin on its own is no stand-alone application for perfect privacy. Use it with caution, combine it with TOR, I2P, use OTR and PGP, and most important, stop using Windows. If you want true anonymity you will have to turn your live upside down. Darkcoin is a good contribution for transaction obfuscation and blockchain based privacy, but its not the proposed general problem solver. It's important to keep that in mind.

And now back to topic. Here are my comments on other coins.

LTC
> It's technically indeed a worthless clone. I personally dont see any point in why the world needs yet another coin. And I stopped believing in LTC after the devs said they dont need any new innovation. Sorry to see this big community going down the drain. Positive is that the huge team of developers and the old and big community contributed a lot of things which are also valuable for Bitcoin and the whole cryptocoin scene.

DOGE
> Was bringing cryptocoins to the masses. Using common memes and implemented as micropayment system it was indeed innovative, not technically, but in the scope of applications it was aiming at and developing for. The community of DOGE was awesome, and I think it will last some more time. But I cant predict how long. Technically, Dogecoin core is worthless, but keep in mind all the applications outside the core implementation built by the community again contributed alot to the cryptocoin scene.

PPC
> The only Proof-of-Stake coin that really lasted on the markets. It was technically ahead of its time and innovative. Not sure what the future will bring. Never heard anything new from that community after the primecoin launch (shows how innovative the PPC guys are!).

NMC
> I loved the coin from the beginning, but not sure if it will ever take off with it concept of a decentralized domain system. Its a great, innovative concept and by far ahead of its time again. I hope it will succeed in the long run.

What's going on?  I thought DASH was to hit 0.027 today?

The DASH bagholders are too busy talking about Monero. it must be exhausting being a DASHtard and constantly having to defend your scammy, centralized shitcoin built from the ground up on lies, fraud and instamines. Not to mention changed parameters after launch. How embarrassing it must be for them to try and justify.

In other news, my March 31 call is working out nicely:

Here you go

It'll probably have a little bump around 0.012 before continuing the downtrend.

So sorry, but last time there are a lot of announcements and a little of implementations.

Even when we are in the lucky situation to have more developers than almost every other crypto-currency, the number of developers is limited and a day has just 24 hours.

Feel free to join development (after all, it's open source), or if you know a good developer with some spare time send him or her here: https://dashtalk.org/threads/core-developer-contest-and-sponsor-program.4358/

And about MN blinding:

Quote from: eduffield
- DS Speed Improvements : Darksend should be lightning fast now on mainnet. We're going to delay the implementation of masternode blinding because there's two separate mobile wallets that are in the process of implementing Darksend and the reference implementation needs to be super stable during this period of time. Once we have the mobile wallets done (which should have Darksend and InstantX support) we can move back to improving Darksend.

So sorry, but last time there are a lot of announcements and a little of implementations.

When I read the entire post (which people usually should do, you know: to get the whole picture) it's very clear Evan is making a proposition of an idea rather than a concrete announcement and clearly states that it's too early to publish anything:

Quote
I make no promises about this idea working though, I’m very early in the research stages, but it does look quite promising. If it works, it means we have solved the ultimate problem with Bitcoin and have made this technology accessible to the whole world. This strategy is just too good to let sit for very long and I need to do some exploratory coding to prove it works.

https://dashtalk.org/threads/rebranding-and-scalability.4254/

Also, quote from the latest release notes (hard to find, I know...)

Quote
Masternode Blinding is NOT part of this release, while it’s in the code, it’s currently disabled. It’ll take a bit more work to complete and we were running out of time before the March 25th deadline, so it’s being moved to the next release.

Last time Evan makes a lot of announcements, but previous stay behind.

What about this statement from 9 march 2015? https://dashtalk.org/threads/rebranding-and-scalability.4254/

The blockchain will automatically become much more anonymous than Bitcoin is.
Fees per transaction will be very, very low. Let the micro-payment revolution begin.
    Zero-centralization
Scalable to billions of transactions per day
    Requires a 2-tier network
    Very low blockchain bloat

P.S. What about 2 Factor Authentication, masternode blinding?

After all of this announcements there was no any implementation, and Evan announces Mobile Wallet development. https://dashtalk.org/threads/development-update-whitepaper-and-other-news.4696/

So sorry, but last time there are a lot of announcements and a little of implementations.

While someone owns hundreds of masternodes, it's very comfortable to say nice speeches and expand the development process for years.
Kinda obvious those features must be financed. It is about it now, how to choose and how to finance. List is long, yes.

great info, thanks

i sure the self governance by masternode and also if possible decentralized exchange by masternode. can support and keep coin price stable.

496 blocks to go before masternodes increase payments reaches 45% ... and possibly be capped then.

As this could be a historic last raise, do you want to make a 1 Dash bet for fun on when block 261680 comes in?
I will bet on it coming in before 4:11 PM GMT (11:11 EST ironically) tomorrow afternoon,
are you game ?  Grin

I totally overlooked your post yesterday but i'm afraid i have to decline as i'm not really a betting guy. But if i were a
betting guy i would place a bet on :

- block 261681 containing the 45% MN payments
- 100 blocks to go * 2.4 minutes = 240 minutes / 60 =  4 hours after posting this post
