The crypto world is so bizarre. In any ordinary circumstance I'd be worried that the price has gone up too much too quickly and is due for a correction. Then there's the great crypto pump of Nov. 2013, or the original Darkcoin pump of May 2014. In both cases we saw values increase 20-50 fold in 4-6 weeks.
Sell some coins now and buy them back on the correction? Or sell some coins now and watch DASH shoot up to $30 per coin? Who the hell knows!
I think for the long-term holders, we are hoping for a more healthy, slow, gradual, steady increase. But I can say it's been an exciting few weeks!
P.S. I would like to point out one thing about masternodes that people tend to miss. Everybody is like "almost half the supply of DASH is locked up in MNs." That's true, but never forget that those DASH can be sold at any minute. Masternodes do not timelock the 1000 DASH, and if the price rises high enough, MN owners could always choose to sell some of those "locked away" coins.
This is true, but every time DASH is sold, some percentage of the buyers have
no intention of
ever selling them, understanding that they and their heirs can live off the proceeds. We have recently seen (and laughed at) weak hands selling to take a profit, only to loose the opportunity of a lifetime. The definition of weak hands will change with time, but with each sale, the number of
immovable hands grows, and the number of potential new masternodes declines. Otoh, and others like him will no doubt take profits and slowly divest themselves of masternodes while making unimaginable fortunes. But do you really think any who understand will sell their last one?
This is good for the security of the coin. Ultimately, I think it is likely that there will be 5,000 masternodes with close to that many owners. It is unlikely that certain three-letter groups are seeing DASH as a threat at this point. By the time they (and many investors) wake up, the few (if any) masternodes available, will be astronomical in cost, and do them no good assuming they can be acquired.
(I should add that I also think that it is likely that as the number of masternodes rises above Evan's target of 3,000
and the price reaches extremely high levels that the bar to entry will be lowered. NOT because there would be a lack of buyers, but because the number of transactions will require more than 5,000 masternodes to service them. However I suspect and hope that existing masternode owners will first be given the opportunity to double their nodes, along the lines of a stock split. At that point single node owners would have the option of taking significant profits.)
Please excuse my flatulence.
I get carried away sometimes.
