Just remember that Dash smart contracts are not comparable to Ethereum's smart contracts and depends heavily on developers getting involved.
Dash "smart" contracts are more like data-type contracts which stores meta data on the Dash Drive (basicly the masternode network).

Do you think their is appetite to try go down this route by devs in the DASH community?
There is definetely an appetite by devs to get this data-style contract rolling. There will be organised developer meetings where Dash will promote this and developers
will get the dev tools to develop dApps for Dash. It will just take time, but it will be interesting to see what kind of dApps and contracts will emerge over time.
End goal will be for dApps to run entirely on Dash Drive, but that could take awhile. For now (with v1.0) its just the meta data that gets stored there, which is an important step on itself.
