I think a lot of that was really trading. Shocking news like this (with terrible execution, too) were just the golden opportunity to take down otoh's wall, hope for a panic, and buy back cheap. I increased my drk position by almost 14% thanks to this :-)

I really have to get day trading properly. Need more burn-funds for self-tutoring...  Undecided

Nice catch dude!

Rebrand will take Dash to be the ultimate bitcoin contender. Only thing is....Dash is better, faster and private.

I'll agree with you when the price hits 0.005  Wink

I might agree already at 0.0051 so be careful you don't miss the train. Wink

You didn't learn at school : "Don't quote the trolls"

I think when there is a real flurry of determined troll activity on a news day, as we are seeing today, there is some value in engaging with them. It provides balance for the casual reader, who may be a potential investor.

sry but investors who did not invest because of troll posts, are not needed.
Everyone who invests without his own research, is not an investor its just a sheep.
So yesterday we saw what happend with these investor sheeps, we realy don't need them!

when i read the post about rebranding i was kinda hoping this would be an very early 1st of april foolsday joke.

So we are going for a third rebranding in what ? less then 16 months ? i sure hope you guys know what you are doing and
have really thought this through because with a rebranding you will have so much lost already (name recognition for a start)
and its very unsure you achieve what your hoping to achieve with the name Dash. And to be honest i'm not getting any vibe
from the name Dash so i'm not too thrilled about that part either.

my two duffs,

qwizzie

Agreed. Changing the name is going to do bugger all for mass adoption, and "Dash" is just plain crap.

Happy to drop the "coin" bit though.

I said it before and I'll say it again

just make it:    DRK

You're still verbally using the word "Dark", otherwise, it's just a mouthful: "Do you accept dee are kay"?

DRK is not a mouthful it is very close to one syllable ,,,,,  "D.are.ck's"   ,,,,,  it's easy to say let's keep it.

My experience with the launch and the early days

Since is very likely that we are going to have the new resident trolls here for a while. I just wanted to share my story:

Dash is not a new project, it was launched January 18th last year, there was a problematic launch were a large amount of coins were mined in the first 48 hours. This gave the market great liquidity, you could get as many DASH as you wanted at very low prices for a long time.

I am not a miner, my only experience mining was buying a Butterfly labs 50GHS ASIC, I paid 1500USD for it and never made my money back, I think maybe I was able to mine 300USD worth of BTC, after a few months. GPU mining was not an option for me as I just didn't/don't have time to deal with that, I run a business and have a family to take care of.

Dash has one advantage it was a first mover, and the coin that created the "anon" segment. So none of those early miners had any special expectation of success, there was no benchmark. They sold for nice profits and the economy started moving, people could just buy as many coins as they wanted for very good prices.

Around that time the big thing for a new alt was being added to Cryptsy, everyone expected a pump from that. The night DRK was added to cryptsy, there was a hack on our main exchange back then C-CEX, they stole a lot of BTC, exchanged it for DRK on C-CEX and dumped them on Poloniex, it was a big dump, it took the price from around 200K satoshis to 100K satoshis and less. I lost 1500 USD on the C-CEX  hack but got access to better prices on Poloniex, I did not sleep that night, it was crazy.

My initial investment on DASH was of around 30K USD, I paid around 1 USD per coin, then bought some more at around 3USD last year and then some more around 7 USD during our first rise.

You do remember DASH went all the way up to 15USD and then all the way down to 1.30 USD, another great point of entry was the Mintpal dump. I never sold a coin during the pump or the crash, in fact I never sold a single dash. I think it was partly because of lack of experience in crypto but mainly because I always felt like someone had to hold if the coin was going to continue moving forward. I remember I wouldn't visit my Dad during the crash days as I didn't wan't to explain why I wouldn't sell while everything at the time felt like it was going to sh*t. There was FUD on every page but by that time I knew what Evan could do and I wanted to be part of the project no matter what.

So we really paid fair to those lucky early miners, I don't mind people were compensated for being prepared at the right time, no one knew what a success this will be on those first 48 hours. To me the whole thing was a blessing in disguise, I paid fair for my coins and I value each of them, but I honestly don't think I would have them without the extra liquidity at the beginning .

The important thing is what happened afterwards. Every project starts with an OP and a bunch of promises, I have seen them all go by.  The Dash dev team has delivered on all those promises and even come up with new things that were not in the table when I first got interested, like Masternode Blinding, InstantX, etc. I still remember when the masternode concept was just being discussed, now we have more than 2300 full nodes. So this is a coin that delivers and one you can be proud of.  I just wanted to share my story, I am very happy with the decisions I made and I want people to have perspective, and not let petty Internet trolls stop them from participating on something great.

They weren't here, they don't know what they are talking about. The only reason why they are here now is because the team created something great and continues to work hard to make it successful.

Dash will get VC investment and retail use that Darkcoin never will.
- Doge got VC multiple investments with a similar non-corporate, non-super-serious name/brand/image. (and no real world use case)
- Alot of VC funded crypto currency startups process DarkCoin already (e.g. CEX.io, Bitfinex).

--> I don't think DarkCoin-related projects/startups couldn't VC get funding.
(Remember DarkCoin was strong, known [from TV coverage] brand.)

But I get your main point. I just wanted to say it would not have been impossible.

Problem with the renaming is, its not very powerful. The new name is dull.

And the consequence? Zero. Doge sponsored a NASCAR. The point has been perfectly put. There is nothing illegal about DRK, yet all media coverage (also because of Silk Road & BTC scams right around the corner) made it a case, as usual media, to demonise DRK.

Future VC will be much smoother without the "dark" label.

Thats it!

The coin and its mission remains the same. As Doge still has it's weird doggy as logo.

Love this coin!
How ridiculous does ShadowCash sound - DarkCoin, not  that much different in the eyes of ordinary people. Now we go up.

Someone put there DigiCash? Although, i would prefer DigiCash over DASH...
