EDIT: Think microscopic photography, spectrophotometry, densitometry, hardness measurement, physical tension measurement, etc etc...

In this case definitely Arduino, sensors is it's thing Smiley it will be cheaper and with higher performance.
Of course you have to take into account the language specifics learning curve.

I was hoping for python as I could become... errr... microscopically useful for DRK too  Cheesy  (porting OpenBazaar for example, when they get their shit together)
What about the new Pi gen... don't you think they'll expand somehow to compete with Arduino ?

I mean, as far as my illiterate mind grasps, python is worlds easier to learn than C or C++

Everything you do with Arduino you can do with RPi, the thing is maybe you are going to use a bazooka to shoot a duck  Smiley
In Arduino you will work low level and have better control of the surrounding hardware (precision and timming wise) in Rpi you'll have a full SO doing other things outside your control.

Greeting from a wet and grey Ireland... Sad
New to the community (couple of weeks) - about to set up my second MN.  First one working like a charm thanks to Tao's guide.

Amazed by the effort both in terms of dev work and online presence (Tao/Tungfa etc). Equally impressed that any attempts by FUDsters just seems to galvanise the community even more.

Just a generic (probably stupid) Q. With the MN rewards scheme going higher % wise - at some, when difficulty increases, will it not detract miners from...well mining?   Would it make sense that MN rewards decrease in future if it results in the overall health of DRK?

Your reasoning is sound. But the what matters is price. How much revenue/month a mine earns.
Do you prefer earning 10000000 DRK worth 0.0000001 USD, or 5 dark worth 2.95 USD ?
Masternode create a positive price feedback loops that has worked absolutely like magic thus far, despite all the bumps in the DRK journey.

The proof is in the pudding. DRK is the nº3 of all PoW coins, and its barely 1 year old.

Slightly off topic, another dumb question.

As far as I understand, Raspberry is a microscopic linux based computer that is capable of running python and all sorts of add-ons through its great, albeit limited I/O interface.

Arduino is a proprietary platform that runs on its own codebase, very very similar to C and C++

The main advantage of Arduino is that it appeared first and had an explosive following and a gzillion add-on, like servo-motors, sensors of all sorts etc.

I'd like to get one or the other, primarily to study code, but with immediate practical applications. I just landed a new long term contract with a company I know well, and I know they need some portable measurement instruments that dont exist and rely on my expertise. I would be king of the hill if I managed to create a prototype that solves production problems.

I lean towards Arduino because the massive amount of sensors/gadgety things you can add through the breadboard.
I lean towards the Pi, because I'd love to concentrate my efforts to Python.

What say ye, oh coding geeks and IT oracles?

I don't know them but I can imagine the service they provide running in a decentralized fashion through the masternode network  Cool

Could MNs handle other Blockchains? If I swap BTC for DRK, the BTC would have to run through the MNs as well?

BTC is on a totally different chain !

why would you think they are running this exchange decentralised or through the MN 's !?
I double doubt it !
not saying they are not legit
but I doubt they are that good !?

I'm not saying they are (and I really don't think they are), I'm only saying we can do it  Wink it was only me imagining future MN network possibilities...

I'm not seeing it that way. I think some masternode operators could choose to provide the other blockchains (through the respective daemons APIs) and the MN network would only provide the business logic.

No, it was Alex-Ru's article! New link here, I accidently deleted the other site! D'oh!
https://www.rebelmouse.com/Get_Into_The_Dark/darkcoin-1013203840.html
I think it were both - first Alex-Ru's article and then the guide Grin

EDIT: btw amazing work Alex-Ru! Shocked

Thanks. Looks like somebody tries to buy last cheap DRK before "big" Bitcoin investors will read it?  Smiley

It is so pity I can't read and speak English as good as you guys. Sad

IMHO in 2015 good tech can increase (thanks Evan and all Darkcoin programmers) DRK price in 2-3 times, but proper PR can increase price in 2-3 dozens times...
And everyone of you can do it yourself like tungfa, TaoOfSaatoshi, ... are already doing.
You do not need to be genius, have programming skills, ..., even speak English to make it real.

Well Well done and said Alexy (the) ru
and yes you are totally correct ?!
there is something to do for everybody here,
even if you just post on your FB or Twitter !
Any line helps to get the word out !
lets do it

... it could be the first coin to have a BTC-like price growth pattern relative to BTC itself.
I love this thought, I'll tweet it.

This might explain the sudden bullish run... Good marketing move OKCoin, with Bter on the ground grumping in pain...

http://www.coindesk.com/okcoin-gives-away-1-6-million-in-bitcoin-for-chinese-new-year/

I think the technical's support the run mate, alongside all of the good news, we had pretty much an exact 50% retrenchment from the intraday recent high and then then move up restarted.. That is pretty much textbook...
