Is it normal to have holders over 1000+ coins without running a node?  I honestly haven't looked into running one yet.   Can a single IP run multiple nodes?   Generally hosted or just run on old parts?   My understanding that the private key isn't on the node itself so if that machine is compromised, coins are still safe..

thnx for the info..
Flare (DRK Dev) runs my masternodes for $9 per node a month. It's Totally trustless (You hold the coins/private keys) and makes my life easier. With start-many and the plethora of updates behind us now it will be much easier to maintain them yourself and save a few bucks DRK.

Take a look at some of the services that people offer. Check out:

There are others, too.

Act quick because the "Fee is 15 DRK for 90 days service." is cheaper now before it rises. ;-)

Right now about 44% of all drk are in active masternodes, so there's a lot of coins out there that aren't in masternodes but a lot belong to exchanges merchants etc as well. At the moment you need a seperate IP address for each MN, and most people rent monthly VPS for around or less than $5 a month. To have a valid masternode the darkcoin software needs to be running, but that specific instance does not need to hold the coins, it can be activated from another wallet which can then go cold. There are lots of good guides for setting them up, its really pretty easy once you start getting your feet wet. The rewards are nice, its currently a little less than 2 drk about every 4 days per MN.

https://darkcointalk.org/forums/masternode-guides.66/

One very important thing, is that you hold your coins in a cold wallet that is completely separate from the masternode itself. The network just checks that your coins are not moved, if you move your coins your node is just delisted and you stop getting paid. It is really no biggie as you can fund it and start it again later.

For example, I try to keep my coins in masternodes, but sometimes on weekends I like betting on football games so if I want to place a big bet I use coins from a node and then after I get my winnings, I can fund said node again and get it back on service.

I use them for betting, but the point is that when you put a masternode up your coins are still 100% on your control. Obviously if you move the coins you will loose your place in the paying cycle, in my case I make more betting on sports on the weekend than what that particular node could pay, so once I reactivate the node I have to wait about 4 days to start getting paid again but in my case is still worth it.

nobody was selling into it so maybe they pulled it to start buying at a higher rate?
we will see shortly.

Looks like the order has been filled now. Congratulations to the new owner.

I thought the latest developments in DRK were amazing

Same here. InstantX is pretty amazing and makes DRK usable for something as quick as buying a cup of coffee. And 2FA is something I've always wanted on a crypto, and that is in DRK's development path. I support.

I love instant x cause it will make sure that those transactions are safe (coffee etc) but let's be realistic, earlier I went to a restaurant close to my place which started accepting btc and payment was ridiculously easy and fast. As soon as the transaction is broadcast I was good to go. Seller was using bitpay.

Guys going crazy on scam threads saying that this coin has 2 million instamine! Is this true i would like to know facts as always please, i did see something about this confirmed by the dev but he said it would be airdropped to all coin holders who have more than 100 drk is this right and if there is 2,000,000 in his hands is this still happening? Cheers

2. check Wiki:
http://wiki.darkcoin.eu/wiki/FAQ#Was_Darkcoin_Instamined.3F

This is also a good read as well from the dev himself (includes also the problems in the launch): https://darkcointalk.org/threads/the-birth-of-darkcoin.162/

Wrt airdrop - the dev wanted to soften the effect of fast distribution by generating more coins for all holder in a one time event, but the idea was objected by the community as being against the spirit of crypto, and letting bygones be bygones.

Because a lot of coins were mined in the beginning, people were selling them cheap - for example 10k coins for 0.25 BTC a year ago. But that's how it is with almost every coin, in the beginning they are cheap, and most coins fall to zero, but every now and then a dev team actually sticks around and proves themselves, and creates something successful.

I have often wondered that if the distribution had been very slow, we wouldn't have the community we have right now because the price of the coin would've been much higher right from the beginning as it would've been so much scarcer so it wouldn't have been distributed to so many people early on.

looks like it's Otoh to me ( not Chinese )

Based on what?  His big wall at .0111 is unchanged. Otoh is a big player for sure, but lets not assume all market movement can be attributed to him...especially without any basis.
Do you remember late 2013 when Chinese started mass buying Bitcoin etc etc
I will just wait to see if I'm right ( for me it doesn't matter Otoh or some other "Otoh" )...
