not really, 99% of my investment is long. Just shorting with small amount for fun. But i just don't believe that bears would stop now because it would not have achieved their goal. They need to push for sub 100$s if they wanna get what they want.

Out of interest, who do you think the "bears' are ?

I thought this might be what was going on as well. I always suspected that the banking establishment would have hedged itself against rising cryptocurrency value (how could they afford not to) by making sure they accumulated enough of the Bitcoin coin supply to control the market in an emergency.

Such an emergency is possibly upon us with the combined effect of world stock markets stalling, collapse in oil price, general commodity collapse etc and also the potential imminent launch of the ETF.

Look at what they did to gold - they managed to keep the lid on the GLD market by naked shorting it with highly levered paper in the early hours of trading when volume was thin. If they hadn't done that the QE programme wouldn't have worked because the gold price would have skyrocketed indicating a collapsing currency.

Similarly I can't believe they haven't at least got contingency plans for scuttling a potential capital flight into crypto. It would have cost them peanuts to accumulate a significant portion of the bitcoin supply over the years.

The one thing in our favour though - unlike GLD - they *can* run out eventually.

(Just my conspiracy paranoia working overtime...seriously though...  Wink )

There is nothing paranoid or conspiracy about it. My main suspect would be Winklevoss twins are dumping their stash gradually and they are gonna buy back at the bottom right before they publicly make bitcoin available to stock traders. They already registered "COIN" ticker and I think they are close to a public announcement about their next move. Most probably the timing will be around early spring. That's when FED is expected to raise the interest rate. Higher interest rate will probably slow down the artificial (it is artificial because stock market boom is not complimented by the real economic growth. it is mainly companies buying their own stocks because credit is so cheap) price increase of Dow and S&P because it will be harder to find cheap cash to dump on stocks. When traders notice that the stock market's steam is running out, they will be desperate to look for alternative lucrative bubbles- that's when bitcoin should come to focus again. And that's when Winklevoss twins should be opening their arms to those traders.

But the reason why I think dump is not over is because herd usually buy at the top and sell at the bottom. And bitcoin bears have to push it even lower to create a major panic dumping. That's why I don't think we have seen a real panic yet. I still strongly believe that we might see a double digit price for bitcoin soon. But again, just like all of you guys, i also don't have a crystal ball.

@Pansyfaust hope that answers to your question as well.

Ha!  I was having a chat with my cousin about this yesterday and he is of the opinion that the Winklevoss twins would be stupid if they didn't do this.

Hello folks, I am unable to update my MN to the latest version.
I noticed when I just launch ./darkcoin-qt remotely it  just misted [masternode] on the windows name bar. I just checked my darkcoin.conf and it is all good.
I started the masternode on the console as well and it gave me no errors whatsoever, but it is not listed as active nor closed on the MN list.
On my vps ./darkcoind masternode list | grep IP shows nothing, any hint? Thank you!
Have you upgrade local and remote deamon/wallet to same version 0.11.0.6?

Bumped protocol version to 70052
Changed p2sh-address versions to start with 7 (instead of 3, this affects public keys only, old scripts remain valid and usable!)
Changed testnet address versions to start with x or y (instead of m or n, this affects public keys only, old wallets remain valid and usable!)

Yes, DRK can do things that LTC cannot do, but in the same vein LTC can do a few things that DRK cannot do, like be accepted at a lot more merchants. I'm not bashing DRK or praising litecoin, merely stating that DRK has qualities that set it apart from LTC in a great way, but beyond the sphere of the cryptocommunity and the darkmarkets, where does it stack up for mass adoption?

drk can be accepted anywhere btc or ltc can.

Just wanted to say Darkcoin core is AMAZING....

This thing is on steroids! Well done to the dev team.

Once the marketing plan has been released and executed this thing is going interstellar.

if I make a manual copy of my roaming folder using copy and paste whilst my darkcoin wallet is open and running darkmix will the copied wallet.dat file be ok or not ?
do not copy wallet.dat while wallet is running!!

Never!
Just bumping on new page Wink

I think a great feature would be for the Darkcoin Wallet to automatically create a backup of Wallet.dat with the date and time appended to the file name every time the wallet is closed. The wallet.dat file is only usually a few hundred KB's so even 50 backups won't take up that much room and corrupted wallets could easily be recovered.

Also an automatic wallet recovery wizard would be great too... Wallet detects a corrupted wallet.dat, The recovery wizard is called which automatically uses the last wallet.dat backup to recover the wallet :-)

I believe this would be simple to implement and it would help many end users.

Looks like DRK maybe breaking out of its trading range at last!
Slowly and smoothly, like what we like!

Edit : but really low volumes, so maybe not relevant...

I kinda put more trust into a private key rather than a wallet.dat file.
So with a single address we can just do dumpprivkey. What about a denominated one? It will probably have hundreds of addresses. Is there any command to dump all privkeys from a darksend/denominated wallet?

Why don't you just send the whole balance to a single address after denomination and then dumpprivkey on that one address ?

Not to my knowledge... you have to dump each address individually for the private key.

Is it possible to code this kind of option into a wallet?

Once your DRK have been Darksent to whatever number of rounds you're happy with, just put them all back in one address and dumpprivkey for that one address.

Let's say the DRK all started in one address, would sending all the funds to a single address increase the likelihood of the Darksend funds being followed? How probable would it be that funds starting in one address and split into 25 addresses are all sent through 8 different addresses (for example) and then end up at the same address again? Following it manually (or even thinking about it) would be a very confusing affair but I imagine it may not be impossible for a computer program to pick up on this sort of pattern.

If you generated a fresh address, outsiders observing the blockchain can't prove without reasonable doubt you own that address vs a bunch of addresses paying someone else entirely.

Fair enough. Actually I did mean sending all the funds to a freshly-generated single address, rather than the original address  Tongue

Stick it all in a new address. There's no shortage, and they're completely free! Wink

hi guys we really need to start pushing the use of DRK to tor markets

read this

In the Silk Road trial, Bitcoin is a cop’s best friend

The same features that kept Ross Ulbricht anonymous might now send him to jail

http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/14/7546669/silk-road-trial-bitcoin-tracking

I think you'll find it's slowly taking care of itself.....

Care to quote it here for those that don't have Tor at work?

I deliberately posted the onion address out of respect.
But basically, just 2 days ago, someone posted.......

Hey guys! It's super-exciting for us to be a part of what looks like the future of darknet markets! First, we'd like to introduce ourselves. We're ***********, and we're dedicated to superb customer service, great stealth, free market principles, and last but DEFINITELY not least, an awesome product. We have been a vendor on Agora for a while now, and our shipping speed and product quality have received what Metacritic would call "universal acclaim". wink But with the Bitcoin freefall, we're wondering if something like Darkcoin might be the future of online payment.

Also, I have been monitoring the growth of this market and it's been growing very steadily and getting solid reviews. I do feel the proper darkmarket DRK adoption touchpaper has been lit and it is only a question of time now.
