I wanted to put this out there to get the communities take on what Darkcoin should be in the future. I think there's a fork is the road for Darkcoin. I have a few different ideas for what masternodes could do. A few months ago when I came up with the idea of paying Masternodes I was thinking they could pretty much decentralize everything on the internet. That being said, it looks like other coins are already focusing on this.
As a result I don't believe we should do what others are doing. The thing I think we've really succeeded at is building an anonymity layer that's robust enough to provide nearly total anonymity while also not bloating the blockchain. I don't think there's much competition on that front and we have the brand for that service.
So we need to choose one of these options:
1.) We provide services and try to compete with centralized and next-gen decentralized providers. I think this hurts the anonymity brand by diluting what we're doing.
2.) We focus on providing a host of anonymity services using the Darksend implementation. This would mean my next project would be to rewrite electrum to use the masternodes to anonymize funds, then an android wallet that can use Darksend, then iPhone, etc. The foundation would also be tasked with trying to get businesses to accept Darkcoin and expand the user base.
I think I want to go with #2. It means that ALL users will have an out-of-the-box nearly perfect anonymous payment solution, which could be a big deal in the near term future.
Also, going with #2 would mean we abandon providing Darktor/Iris and similar services.
Hi eduffield,
If I understand properly, you want to capitalize from being the first actor in the anonymity field and benefit from first movers advantage?
I agree it is definitely a good idea to prioritize the android and iphone wallets in my opinion and also expand the user base before going into more complicated services.
I don't quite understand what you mean by the host of anonymous services however, are you not describing one service available on different platforms? I think if you feel he second option is best, it is the best one.
What about text messaging, email and calls? Will these eventually be included in the Darksend protocol? My concern is how do you buy something anonymously if you can't discuss the price, negotiate, do research on what you are buying, basically communicate with the other parties anonymously as well as pay them. I'm thinking along the lines of a contract, with an offer, a counter offer, acceptance and counterpart. Basically more complex operations than click and buy would require in person communication to be secure? Maybe the Darksend could have an option for encrypting business communications before payment as well as sending encrypted texts during payment? Maybe for a monthly fee?
How do you maintain full anonymity if the discussion surrounding the financial transaction cannot be protected? Also, what if an app starts snooping on wallet activity on people phones, so basically their information isn't on the blockchain, its everywhere else where you can't track it. You would probably need to isolate the Darkcoin app from other apps, basically have a kind of firewall built into to it that would protect access from being gained by apps you gave specific permissions to when installing. Here I go again... lol. Have a great day Evan and thanks for your update. I'll keep a look out for any updates and developments.
I'm not part of the development team, so I'll take bit of time off from this board with all these ideas. They might be confusing things and its a full time job just keeping up with the posts, cheers and namaste.
