I think DRK will able to set its feet on solid land if it holds its advantage over BTC for some amount of time, let's several months.
But if BTC makes possible for true anonymity in the near future, what advantage will DRK have?

I don't think Bitcoin will ever be anonymous.

There is no reason to. The whole point of Bitcoin is that it's transparent and the whole point of Darkcoin is that it's opaque. One isn't better than the other, they just serve different requirements.

Bitcoin's whole infrastructure revolves around it's transparent block chain. There are thousands of merchants now using it. Apart from anything else, Bitcoin would have to go right back to basics and start again if it wanted to implement anonymity. It would loose all the confidence it's gained and all the consolidation it's done over the past few years.

Not ever happening I think.

Agreed. There is room for clever 3rd party anonymizing solutions. But it's highly unlikely that Bitcoin will ever have anonymity built into the client wallet.
Bitcoin gives you e-checks.
Darkcoin gives you e-cash.

And regarding markets for buying BTC using fiat.
Which are the less bureaucratic, most reliable and fastest sites for doing that, for Europeans?
By fastest I mean I don't have to wait hours for the buy to happen nor for the transfer between wallets. And my email and CC are enough.

Is there any thread here or site that reviews/classifies trading sites? I don't want to trade with some other "mt. gox".

Thanks

Fastest in Europe is localbitcoins.com with your criteria. I would sell you some, but I'd have to sell some DRK first and that's against my religion.

There are several ATMs if you are in central london. There is also a random guy in Brick Lane somewhere that has a bitcoin shop. I think its a pop-up shop, so might not be there for much longer.

may be there will be 3rd parties like dark wallet or tor in a way that will fill the gap an offer services to make BTC more anonym... but i also think BTC itslf will not go in this direction

if, or maybe when is more appropriate, BTC implements a mechanism for true anonymity (like Dark Wallet). What do you think it will happen to DRK?
Some may think this question is troll bait, but I think this is a reasonable question to ask.

I do not think it would be possible without completely tanking the coin value to do a hard fork at this time.

I mean it would have to be a DIRE situation of instability or flaw being found to risk their position in the market on a 'might improve' notion of anonymity.

If their price tanks and literally you see DRK looking to take over the top position (or any other coin that may come along), then I would think it possible. But the risk would be immense.

For all the legitimate real world reasons I can't see them doing it.

I have been completely wrong in the past.... and I still root for the Oakland Raiders, so my judgement is certainly suspect.

How do the exchanges make their money?

Well, I know they take a % of every trade, and exit.

But what do they do with shit alt-coins?

Do they exchange them as they go, or play the market, etc, and buy BTC?

Fee on every transaction and withdrawal. If you transact DRK, they have a fee that they take in DRKs. They then sell it and get BTCs.

Mintpal owners are the ones making real money off all this

Is there any other site besides moolah that allows buying DRK?
It says registrations are currently disabled.

Or should I buy one BTC (can I buy 0.5 BTC instead?) and then exchange it for DRK?

Disclaimer: noob located in Europe with 0 coins of any cryptocurrency.
(missed the BTC boat, kind of late for the DRK boat)

Unless I missed something exchange sites only allow exchanges between cryptocurrencies.
I registered at mintpal but don't see any way to add/use my credit card to buy coins.

Thanks

Important question: how did you hear about Darkcoin?
JL

I knew about BTC for a couple of years, but due to procrastination and life circumstances I never got into BTC.
When BTC got to $1000 USD news were out everywhere and it got my attention again.
Started checking the news, heard about ZeroCoin and I knew that the first true anonymous coin would have value. Like the first cryptocoin has.
It was either the wired article or with a zerocoin google search leading me here, that I discovered DRK.

But cryptocurrencies have a tremendous volatility. A single day can make a colossal difference.

Another question I have is:
if, or maybe when is more appropriate, BTC implements a mechanism for true anonymity (like Dark Wallet). What do you think it will happen to DRK?
Some may think this question is troll bait, but I think this is a reasonable question to ask.

For me BTC has value because it was the first, was able to capitalize on that and has several companies behind it.
LTC also has value. There are companies and funding behind it. Not to say it can't fail and die like 90% startups do, but we'll see.
DRK has value because like I said it's the first cryptocurrency that provides anonymity.
All the other currencies are vapor to me. Maybe there are some that have some unique features, but if they have they don't look to be relevant enough since "outsiders" don't know anything about them.

I think DRK will able to set its feet on solid land if it holds its advantage over BTC for some amount of time, let's several months.

The shitcoins PAY to get listed, so they can dump the premine.

maybe not to late.. maybe just in time.
If you live in The Netherlands use Bitonic to get yr local bitcoins .. if not then check your local bitcoin possibilities.
Purchasing 0.5 is possible anywhere so far i know..
Then transfer BTC to for example Mintpal and trade it for Darkcoins

if you have access to SEPA i would point you to localbitcoins and choose Sepa.
you can buy almost any amount you want.

..it just takes 1 to 3 days till you receive your BTCs
on the plus side, it is always escrowed.

looks like we are crossing the MACD trend at Mintpal with time interval 4 hrs (6 hrs closing in but not yet there).
Could get us in a good upside market from now on.

I enjoy your posts.

Always seem so random, I haven't got a clue what you're talking about, but you seem enthusiastic about it all. Keep it up.  Grin

I have a little question regarding MNs - Is it possible to give a guesstimate on how much datatraffic a MN would end up using for a month?

Looking at using hosted solutions for one, and they are always limiting the traffic / month..

Last time I did the math I think it came out as about 5-8GB/month, but the code was shortly afterwards modified to (among other things) reduce bandwidth. Currently nobody knows what the figure will end up as, but I would go for some plan you can upgrade if you need to.
