Masternodes start receiving passive income this weekend. History in the making! Anyone sitting on the sidelines is going to be sorry.

Is there anyone who can write mining and masternode guides for the website before then? All the newcomers that hit this forum next week can be directed there.

BUMP

Nobody running a masternode besides eduffield is going to be wanting to write guide that cuts into their profitability.

MASTERNODE WITH COLD WALLET DOES WORK

I just confirmed that all of my nodes are showing on the http://darkcoin.io/masternodes.txt
I didnt even restart them, it seems like as Evan said we just needed to be patient and wait for the network to sync. This also means that the local/remote wallet setup does work. In my case I do it with two privkeys, the one generated on the server I place on the server darkcoin.conf and the one generated locally I place on the local darkcoin.conf.  The rest of the steps are the same as before and you can find information on darkcointalk.org.  Cheers!

How long have you had them up? Mine were listed for about 2 hours and then disappeared. I restarted both of them as Evan suggested - still not listed anywhere. Will wait and see what happens I guess.

At the moment of my message they were all there. Right now, some show, some don't. Based on what I have seen today I am not going to do anything, just wait for the network to sync and check again tomorrow.

OK checked again, now the ones that werent showing are showing again, and I didn't do anything. Conclusion, the count and the masternode list are going to take some time to stabilize. If your node is not showing and it was showing before just check again later. I don't think there is anything wrong, we just need to wait. At least that has been my experience.

EDIT: If you are not in version 0.10.8.6 or 0.9.4.6 please update!

The Buck Stops Here.
Mining.DarkcoinTalk.org is now rewarding miners with 25% more income for the next 100 blocks found by the pool.
Starting at 8PM EDT (New York) on May 20th 2014. Or May 21st 2014 1AM BST (London)
If a block is found worth 10 the reward for all of you mining will be 12.5 Darkcoin.

Please join us at mining.darkcointalk.org. Pool works really well, we just found two blocks, but we could still use more miners there.

Regarding the bonus condition, could you clarify if it is 10.* or 10.0* or 10.00* for the block reward?

Using the block reward formula with "10.*" as outcome, the difficulty would need to be between 1446 and 1642 for the bonus to be applicable, correct?

Thanks,

Sure I can clarify. Starting in one hour, every block found by the pool will have a bonus equal to 25% of the block reward. This will continue for at least One Hundred found blocks.

Example included. Found block worth 10 dark. The pool will pay 12.5 dark. (for one hundred blocks)
Looks like there are much hash in the pool and the performance is not so good with too many non verified blocks found.

Hey Sunny, thanks for your concern. The truth is, the pool has never found an orphan block. Plus the efficiency is above 99%. So your apprehensiveness is actually completely misguided.

Starting now, the pool is live and awarding miners 25% extra profit. Profits go towards improving the community. Thank you.

Now we have some sight of what the newest competition is doing.

DarkWallet is still in Alpha, and today we learn that people using browser wallet plugins might lose their bitcoins.

http://www.coindesk.com/secure-wallet-extension-kryptokit-disappears-chrome-browsers/

It is also a centralised mixing system, currently with some problems around control of inputs and outputs and only useful for those that know about the system - its optional by default.

Not hating it, just not feeling it.

Zerocash

The paper on zerocash was launched yesterday, the presentations are today and the official launch of zerocash currency is still not yet announced, but won't be in May, possibly not in June either.  Therefore, those waiting to clone zerocash, it will be open source, have to wait a little longer.

The lead academic of zerocash protocol has said:

Quote
....it will be a test drive more than anything. “It’s totally possible this thing will blow up. It’s totally possible people will find a vulnerability,”

Quote
ZeroCash is certainly more experimental than what Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto used, and it will take some vetting from cryptographers before the design can be fully trusted, says Green.

The material reference here is that someone could generate billions of zerocash coins and it would be difficult to detect.

http://www.sciencefriday.com/blogs/05/14/2014/this-cryptocurrency-could-be-an-answer-to-bitcoin-s-privacy-problems.html?series=33

They still have the fundamental problem of being funded by governments from military budgets. Yeah, good luck with that sales pitch to the community.

For price of drk to rise, we do not need people to buy more, we only need sellers to stop hurting themselves by selling the first decentralised privacy coin. They don't realise that drk does NOT need to be mainstream. Other coins will swap to it for purely piracy reasons.

Anyone know the famous bitcoin people that Satoshi invited to mine Bitcoin when it was relatively new and they turned him down? I think the difficulty was really low, a few hundred at most.

Adam Back was one, he came up with hashing and PoW that Satoshi used. He then came around to the idea of Bitcoin in 2013. He could have made millions, but left it to Satoshi and a few others to mine.

Whats the consensus about getting some more t-shirts done? Somebody created this: http://teespring.com/darkcoin the other day - if we had any profit put into a bounty it could be quite good? tbh Id prefer to pay with fiat - dont want to sell my drk just yet.

pool.terahashers.com
  • Dedicated pool server with VARDIFF, using the PROP (proportional) reward system.
  • Server with HIGH performance backend, with selected components in hand-tuned C code.
  • No need to register. Just use your wallet address as username!

stratum+tcp://pool.terahashers.com:5001 -u -p

Please join, and let me know if you have any problems!

As a measure for promoting my new pool, and for a limited period of time, miners with high hashrates can win a daily prize.
Check it out!

Rich become more rich Sad

Maybe the miners worked for the money to buy huge mining rigs? Maybe they quit there job to do it full time.
These pools need big rigs more than the big rigs need the pool.

So, if I got 19.9 mhs and solomining in his pool ... i'm f****d

No, you are not Smiley

The idea to give part of the fees to one lucky big miner is to attract miners with a lot of hashing power.
Makes finding blocks in the pool easier, so everyone wins in the end.
