US can't use dollars to buy crypto there IIRC. Strictly crypto:crypto.

they are getting state-by-state licences to enable $ exchanges.

Another option (perhaps the best choice imho) would be to host the node on a home server and ask your existing provider for a 2nd static IP address for a game server or something, then exit that through a good VPN provider perhaps. Their is a lot to be said for owning and having access to the physical equipment for your master node.

Yeah I'm starting to think this way. I need to find out how to have four MNs running on the same box in separate VMs but each one with its own static IP.  Cheaply. Grin

Apart from Amazon, who else are masternode ops using? (Pref non US)

Speaking of "apart from Amazon"...  I would be interested to know what percentage of the 50-odd masternodes are there right now.  It'd be easy for them to shut them all down on a whim.

Right now, 30 of 55 are running on Amazon. Hence my desire to run my intended others elsewhere.

Most masternodes are there right now because there is a detailed guide with screenshots on how to set it up. If some of the members of the community create additional guides on how to set it up in other places, people will be happy to move them. So if any of you guys could write a guide for some other options, please go ahead and do it.

True, but cost is also an issue - an Amazon micro instance is basically free. Chaeplins guide can be followed exactly from the part where you're ssh'ed in to your server, regardless of where it is. In fact that part on is the easiest bit.

www.earnforex.com/forex-vps-hosting/ has a useful list of forex vps hosting companies, which you would hope have reliable up-time and reasonable 'default' security, although the focus is mostly on windows for use with the MT4 platform. Lower prices though.

bosonvps.com has very cheap linux servers which are reseller packages for privatelayer.com - for the Switzerland hosted option. I've had very mixed success with bosonvps though, although privatelayer.com itself is OK.

Best bet is to track reseller packages to the source and check the T's and C's, although all non-us VPS are still much more costly.

Their is a good list of Tor friendly VPS servers somewhere on the web.

Another option (perhaps the best choice imho) would be to host the node on a home server and ask your existing provider for a 2nd static IP address for a game server or something, then exit that through a good VPN provider perhaps. If I find a good option or two I'll post them up, but it certainly makes no sense for everyone to be using the same cloud resources.

Do we want to setup a bounty for an already hardened PIMP or BAMT masternode image that only needs the user to do the last few config steps?

Let's not forget, all the POS coins are doing very well and the more people that can setup masternodes, the more Dark is removed from the money supply and the the higher the price will go for everyone.  If Masternodes stay only for the highly technically inclined, then its effect on removing supply will stay negligible.

Hmmm this is not true : 10% of the block rewards will go to all the MasterNode payment, this don't change if there is 10 or 1000 MS.
What change is the earning of the MN : the more MN the less each one will earn.
You are answering a different question.  Of course the profit per node is less for the operator but for the health of the network and the health of the price of the coin, the more masternodes the better because it is a direct removal of coins from the money supply and also a direct demand modifier which causes the price to move higher and higher.  POS coins work similarly by encouraging users 1. not to sell their coins and 2. Buy more coins and hold them so they can earn interest on those funds.

The easier it is to setup and run a masternode, the more Darks that will be bought and held and EVERYONE OF US benefits (including those who are running the nodes) because the price of 1 Dark will be higher and more stable.

Please explain what ya'all are talking about to us non-coders??? LOL

This is basically a Darkcoin client "code" that helps it identify other Darkcoin clients. Before it was using Litecoin's which was giving people all those wallet syncing errors because their clients were communicating with Litecoin and others. Evan just flipped the order on all the bytes.

It's a bit like using http://0xc0.0x40.0x51.0x6a (Hexadecimal IP) to resolve http://darkproxy.net   Wink

Whoa, I didn't even know you could do that! TIL.

Yeah. Kind of cool isn't it. This is the stuff that gets forgotten about.

The following will work as well, although not with all browsers...

http://3225440618 - Decimal IP's

http://0xc040516a - Hexadecimal IP's

http://0xc0.0x40.0x51.0x6a - technically a dotted Hexadecimal IP

http://0300.0100.0121.0152 - dotted Octal IP's

You can add loads of 0's to dotted Octal IP quads, for example;

http://000000300.00000000000100.0000121.0000000152

It's also possible to mix and match the correctly ordered quads of dotted hexadecimal and dotted octal IP's

http://0300.0x40.0x51.0152  or  http://0xc0.0100.0121.0x6a

You can also try adding 'fake' authentication to help bypass web filters etc. For example,

http://[email protected] - (no I'm not trying to trick you), basically everything before the @ symbol is ignored.

~ Always check that the static IP address has not changed - or you might end up 'pinging' the pentagon or something!

All, the hardfork will break p2pool code. There is currently a bounty of

300DRK + US$100

to update the p2pool code. MPOS was already patched and NOMP was patched today.

If you cannot personally program, spread the word. I am working to get this on the Darkcoin twitter feed and at that time it can be retweeted.

I'm throwing in 50 DRK bounty for anyone able to patch this p2pool code to work with darkcoin masternode payments (rc2) after may 14th hardfork.
https://github.com/chaeplin/p2pool-drk/issues/4

Anyone else want to add DRK to this bounty? Without p2pool darkcoin would lose a major part of decentralization!

Cross post https://darkcointalk.org/threads/developement-work-for-p2pool-and-nomp-stratum-patch.360/#post-2771

Sent my bounty to bountysource - join me and support p2pool with your bounty!
