Not sure if just anyone can access this, but I've started a darkcoin wikipedia page. I haven't submitted the initial draft for review yet - I would appreciate edits, corrections, or feedback from the community to make sure I have everything in here correctly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/DarkCoin

If the link doesn't work, I can try posting the entire page in here for input. Smiley

Sweet! I've made a quick change already if that's ok.

Waiting for my .55 BTC to get through to Poloniex  Grin

Good write-up thanks....think you can go into a little more detail (or point e in the direction) of how bitcoin isn't truly anonymous yet darkcoin will be and how is it the "first privacy-centric..."  whatever that means?

Thanks

is now a good time to buy? Haven't really followed anything dark related

It's a great time to buy. DarkCoin is not a hype and pump/dump coin. It has attracted attention through actual value by means of the soon-to-be-beta (actually-in-alpha) DarkSend functionality (in addition to 11 different hashing algorithms which make it ASIC resitant, Kimoto Gravity Well (KGW) which makes it safe from multipools for example and adjusts difficulty every block and a great professional developer). This new feature will allow you to send coins anonymously directly from the wallet without passing by TOR (darkweb) or through a mixing service which requires trust in the operator of said service and also involve fees (2%). It is a trustless solution straight from the wallet and it will be the first coin to achieve such a feat. It experienced natural growth, going from around 0.00005 BTC when first hitting markets to 0.0025 BTC without any kind of useless hype (e.g. Maxcoin).

If you look at the price now though, it is quite a bit lower, ranging from 0.001 to 0.0014 depending on the market. What happened? One of the exchanges on which DRK trades (C-CEX) had a malfunction/hack which allowed a user to gain access to hundreds of BTC for free, which he couldn't cash out. He figured out that by buying DarkCoin, he could then transfer it out of the exchange easily, this caused a huge spike in buys since he put in around 300 BTC worth and bought up all DarkCoins up until 0.0075 BTC or 7.5 millibits. He then proceeded to transfer all those coins to another exchange (Poloniex) and started dumping as much as possible, as quickly as possible, with no regard for price. This caused a chain reaction which lasted for around 4 days. At first the coin recovered admirably to the dumps, staying very close to its regular price after a few dumps. After two days though, the price couldn't hold up anymore and we suspect that a lot of very early adopters started getting scared and began dumping as well.

Through some investigation and through a mixture of guilt, the "hacker" (who claims he actually isn't a hacker and the BTC simply appeared due to a mistake), came back and contacted the right people to start giving back the BTC he had taken from the exchange, since a lot of other people were affected and had their funds frozen. Of course he had lost a lot of value by filling very cheap buy orders for DRK so he can't possibly give it all back but the important thing is the dumps are stopped now and the coin has stabilized again. It has found solid ground and is starting to rise again. This rise will be fueled by the 3rd DarkSend alpha test which is happening tomorrow and after that, the developer (eduffield) has said that the beta will come soon as the code is very solid.

You have a unique chance right now to buy into a coin which really isn't supposed to be available at these prices anymore due to its real value. Only reason it's low right now is because of the situation I explained above. It belongs on the top of the charts as much as other coins with added functionality such as Peercoin/Namecoin for example. It's not a simple clone like 99% of other coins and it's here to stay.

TL;DR - Great time to buy

Have you guys read this article? http://cryptolife.net/breakdown-anonymizing-cryptocurrencies/

EDIT: OOPS! FIXED , WRONG LINK

Darkcoin

Darkcoin has a feature called “darksend” which is really just a cutesy name for it’s implementation of gmaxwell’s coinjoin specification. Essentially, inputs from multiple entities are grouped together and treated as one transaction. To an outside observer, this makes it much more difficult to tell exactly what addresses belong to who.

The nice thing about this implementation is that it doesn’t require much additional overhead, and doesn’t require trusting third parties, meaning it could reasonably be implemented into bitcoin. At the same time, the level of anonymity it affords is moderate at best. It is best used in conjunction with other methods of anonymity. On it’s own, it likely isn’t enough. AFAIK, darksend isn’t publicly released yet either.

I would hope that much later in the future of DRK's life, and the general future of cryptocurrency, that DRK will implement multiple transaction anonymity features on top just aiming to be the strongest coin in its target market (privacy centric) with updates etc.

It's very much in its infancy yet.

What happened?  Yes, I do think there is another wallet... is this your pool?

get same block repeatedly Sad

his version : v0.8.6.2
mine : v0.8.9.1-1-g970f9d2-beta

need ban option !!
(have to cut using iptables)

Code:
-banscore=          Threshold for disconnecting misbehaving peers (default: 100)
-bantime=           Number of seconds to keep misbehaving peers from reconnecting (default: 86400)

but, 'get same block repeatedly' is not misbehaving....

We could really use more miners at http://drk.lotterymining.com.  We've been finding blocks steadily but since we're a small pool, not as often as big pools (averaging about 12 blocks a day).  You'll get bigger payouts though! It all adds up to the same thing though Smiley

The one thing though, don't believe the estimated coins per day for your hash rate!  It's very optimistic, LOL, in other words it calculates incorrectly.  But the number of coins mined here will be the same as mined anywhere for the same hash rate per day.

And the one fun thing is we have a lottery drawing every week.  Each day you mine, you get a "lottery ticket" and half of the fees go into the pot.  The fees are only 1%, and half goes into the pot, so it's  more like 1/2%

I've just been with this pool from the beginning and am recommending it as a place to jump to if you're at coinmine.pl and want to help lower the hash rate there to reduce the >50% threat that creates.  Not that I think in the least that the owner of that pool would do anything, but it doesn't look good for the coin Smiley

usual up's and down's as all the new currencies (+the BTC madness these days)
but i believe it is good to time to stock up as it is still running in the '0.00…'
section, that will change soon (again) to '0.0..' and in the long run even higher
…. but then … what do i know …>>

Only if you know you're taking a risk!  I bought at .002 and am not sweating it (of course, I spent about $43, as it was all I had, LOL)  I think it'll be worth a lot more in the upcoming year/years.  I plan on holding the coin for a long time.  The coin is really low, probably due to massive dumping the last few days.  So I'd say it's a very good time, but don't trust me, I'm just a hack here Smiley

Been 3 days now and I've still yet to receive an e-mail with my pin from darkcoin.io, what gives? I've put in numerous tickets explaining my issue, and my account is locked with 50+ DRK in it. Any help would be appreciated, I need to access these urgently.

PM eduffield, he runs that pool!  He's our developer, and probably hasn't noticed?

How did this coin just devalue?  Not sure if srs.

Yes its going downhill a bit but patience is virtue

Instead of them being rare at ~10 million coins, now we are going towards the full ~80 million, an 8 fold increase.

This fucking sucks for people like me who bought in the past week, thinking the coin was rarer than it is now. I don't plan on selling, it just sucks knowing I could have gotten more.

I can see why you might be upset, but this wouldn't change coin rarity until the end of the first year - and if you are planning on holding it for that long, I have the feeling you will be in good shape in any case. Smiley

Someone needs to make a Darkroad. That would generate so much publicity.

I sincerely hope that those who must protect us from crime will find a way to track illegal activities even if those doing illegal things are using darkcoin, as long as it's not invading the public privacy.  I just don't want the public to know what I'm doing with my own money/coins.  That's a private matter!  Who needs to know I spent $1000 at Disneyland buying hats?  If silly hats were my thing, nobody needs to know!  It's my business, and I'm sure I wouldn't want anyone to know that I spent so much at a place even so it wouldn't tell anyone what exactly I bought.  It just doesn't need to be in the public ledger!
The police do not exist to protect people from crime.

They have no right to know anything about anybody's private transactions. Without law enforcers, Hitler etc. could never have happened.

Stop looking up to others for leadership or protection. Live your own life!

I was trying to say a similar thing without sounding too anti police.  Certainly, the police, government, etc... MUST be kept under the people's thumb.  We are the employers, and we employ them for good reason.  They can make our lives more orderly, keeping psychopaths, of which there are many around all of us, from ruining our lives.  Again, no black and white.  But being where my family came from, I really do understand how bad it can get!  And I agree with you.  Always keep your guard up against those whom we gave power.
