Any word on Kimoto or something similar being implemented before we retarget. I have a feeling once difficulty drops the whale/whales will return.

All litecoin-clones hasnt killed litecoin? Just put up an official release date a month ahead, in that month this coin will grow big enough to survive the future.
In meantime we can also start giveaways and such. (I wont be giving away any coins though, got less than a thousand  Grin)

the darkest of coins
I would actually have donated if I would have had more than a thousand, but now I feel kinda like Im already belonging to the lower class, and thereby are under no obligation to share. Tongue

The Future Of Work
Open source will immediately kill the coin in my opinion.  How long would it take for all the other coins to implement this tech?  A day?  Especially if its a plugin.  I wish there was a way to keep the source closed but have it verified by well known and trusted people in the crypto community.  These people could vouch for the codes legitimacy.

Hello!
I install miner for DarkCoin on Xubuntu 13.04:
sudo -s
git clone https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.git
cd darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2
./autogen.sh
bash: ./autogen.sh: Permission denied.
What's the problem?

use sudo before the argument, it gives you root permissions and also, use https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.git as it runs much faster Smiley

lol your too slow :-)

he needed chmod +x and i told him to get 1.2c :-p

I know, I should just shut up, lol

The plugin source could be released with a license that forbids its use.

Pool admin should kick him out and make him spread the hashes to multiple pools.

Pool admin is getting a percentage, can't blame him if he's happy he got lucky...  Embarrassed

lets see, pool admin gets (unless he also donated) 1% so that would be aprox 320 coins from the whale (0.131200 BTC)

On source issue, why not open 95% of it?

Keep 5% secret sauce closed so it is faster for copycoins to wait for official unveiling of last 5% of source than to figure it out

As long as there is hard date of fully open source within 3 months (eternity in this biz), I think it will be fine. Darkcoin gets established and who is going to bother with copycoins after DRK is everywhere?

Also, I doubt any major exchange will list DRK unless it has quick path to fully open source

The state of the network

1.) We launch open source and hope we gain a good name in the community. If done correctly, all of the other coins will just be clones that don't add anything original. I would still be working on other functionality and improvements, so we'd always be ahead of the rest.

2.) We implement all of the unique technology as a closed source plugin. The plugin would be shipped separately and added to a folder to enable the privacy features, it would also work normally if it didn't find the plugin. This is how NVidia ships their closed source drivers for their video cards with linux.

Which should it be?

+1 for open source. Closing the source would hinder adoption because of limited usability (unless you are going to provide binaries for every possible OS) and limited trust (personally I would not use it if it's closed). IMHO people would clone this coin with binary plugin anyway, I don't see anything preventing them from doing so.

But we should first do something about the network being raped.

Totally disagree, it's like allowing all the alt coins to rape eduffield's work!  They will anyway in the end, but let his work gain recognition first before giving it all away!

my thoughts too, else we end up with a load of crap coins and darkcoin is non the better off

I think it should remain closed source a while after going live with it. Some people are going to use the plugin no doubt, even though most wouldn't. However, the promise that the source will be released soon, and the fact that it is working, will affect the market price positively (and thus general interest towards the coin). And also it creates yet another climax point when there will be countdown to the release of the source etc. All about marketing. Smiley
Darkcoin would market itself if it went live with closed source.  But most definitely not in a positive way.

"Anonymity with closed source software?  LOL"

Maybe, MAYBE it would have worked in a pre-NSA-Snowden era.  But these days?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I don't think you get it, people know it will be open sourced "soon" and while trusting people use it, it will be  proven effective, then another bit bump when it's finally opened!!  We have to protect Eduffield's work until he gets the word out loud and clear.

Btw, I trust him because there is NO WAY a governmental agency could produce, even a bitcoin clone, LOL, they're too incompetent and unmotivated (sorry, no offence to those who hold Gov jobs, but you know it's true Wink  )

"IF" we are going to implement a gravity well, we will have to do a hard fork. This means you will NOT lose any coins that have already been mined.

What is everyone opinion on doing this? I can see doing it if the "Whale" comes back after diff comes down. But MAYBE we should leave it and see IF he/she comes back.

But we need to get ahold of all the Exchange and Pool operators.

Can we get ahold of them and have them send me an email so I can make sure we get it scheduled and I can send out a message to them to know when the new code is live.

Please have them email me at: [email protected]

Thanks,
Kyle

Hi,

Is there an easy to understand guide on how to mine darkcoin on osx? I'm new to mining and have been trying for hours and I'm no further forward. I've downloaded the standalone miner but can't get it to connect to the pool.

Any help very much appreciated.
