Another thing - the Great british Pound has lost 70% of its value against Bitcoin over the last 18 months. Once that starts to penetrate into people's heads this kind of service is going be massive IMO. It may be the killer product that lights the touchpaper on cryptocurrencies as a mainstream store of value.

BTC has almost been a nice silver lining for me since the referendum result. I have to admit that it was not planned for me to be holding a significant stack at the right time.  Lucky coincidence.

Hey, this is pretty awsome. I hadn't quite realised the gravity of what's going on with these credit card initiatives.

Spectrocoin actually has a native Dash wallet onboard. So you can have a Dash backed debit card and you've got immediate effective adoption at 20 odd million merchants.

IMO this is the coolest stuff I've used since discovering bitcoin. Actually gives you a reason to move money around the blockchain and finally use crypto for living your life. (Like loading up your card with some Dash, walking into an Applestore and walking out with a new MacbookPro or just get a tin of beans in the local supermarket).

I needed to pay them £6.00 for the card. But no need to put any fiat in the loop - just charge the Dash wallet with 1 Dash and it's done !

I think my bank account is about to be toast.

I agree that the product is rad, but the fees are crazy right now. Not the management fees (1€ month or 2.5€ to withdraw i can accept/optimize it), but the exchange rate is way insane.

Loading 1 dash i get 11.1$. Change is 11.61 in this second, an hefty 51 cent (4,6%)
Changing in BTC, 17,826 mBTC. On Polo 18,886 - 1,06 mBTC or 5,95% (!!!!).

So if i charge 1000 Dash (about 11600$) in an year or so i lose immediately 500+$

Not acceptable imho (+ other costs). I like the idea, but price should be more fair. Ideas accepted.

Hi! Where Dash price go if btc rise? Hope it go to 0.016.. What Your thoughts?

I thought it would have reached 0.016 a month ago but 19 and 20 turned out to be much more stable than I expected.

The price is less elastic now than it used to be because a lot of the coin supply is held in network collateral which is earning a return for holders. It also depends on what liquidity you're requiring. If you're trading a couple of hundred Dash and looking to accumulate, then you don't need so much of a spread. On the other hand it's harder to get out and back in at a gain if you're trading in the 000's.

(Also might depend on what happens to Deutsche Bank tomorrow).

Well, the inverse correlation with BTC has never failed (yet). At least when BTC goes up.

I have found some other card providers, but no personal experience :
https://xapo.com/card/
https://cryptopay.me/
and
https://lykke.com/ may release one soon...

Sorry for OT, do not want to derail the thread.

Thanks for the input and don't worry about the OT, people here have been trained by the best trolls around BCT  Wink

I have cards with wirex (e-coin) and xapo and had no problems with either. wirex has a more lucrative referral program as well. Link in my sig.

I also did some research on the company, which I don't have to hand, but they are FAR from adequately described as "three kids from Lithuania"

Thanks for that interesting write up. Maybe I'll get Spectro for the UK stuff then since you seem to pleased with it.

(b.t.w I was only having fun with the fact they were all in their twentees Wink I'm sure they're very professional)

There's Bitwala that seems intersting too (as Wirex they accept Dash ) and you can pay bills (not sure about that for Wirex).

Hi kointrend

I just went for Wirex - didn't think too much about it. I think you can maybe pay bills using their "virtual card". Also you can use just about any cryptocurrency as they have some kind of shape-shift interface I think. They seem to be growing very fast. Only thing is I got confused about the difference between their GBP/EUR/USD local denominated cards (see e-coin website) and the "travel card" which seems to be a one stop shop.

I didn't really look at any others in great detail.

Hi Tok, I didn't see this before my last post.  Yes, the "card denomination" thing confused me too, it's the same with Spectro, you have to choose a "home denomination" for the card.  I'm assuming that this is due to the VISA system itself, not any of these bitcoin card companies.

Also, (and I promise I'm not a shill for Spectro, just very happy with their card!) you can choose how much of your funds are in crypto or in any currency.  They actually provide you with 5 wallets: BTC, Dash, Eur, USD and XAU (gold).

When you send BTC or Dash to the card, it credits to your BTC or Dash card wallet immediately.  If you want to spend cash from the card, you hit a "Sell" button, and the trade is executed, the cash ending up in the wallet of the currency your card is denominated in.  (If you want to, you can do the reverse, and exchange it back to crypto. Those transactions are charged 0.5% + $1.00/€1.00/£1.00.)

I also did some research on the company, which I don't have to hand, but they are FAR from adequately described as "three kids from Lithuania".  Would you describe Bitstamp as "some kids from Slovenia"?   Cheesy

Here's their blog, if anyone is interested:

The card from https://spectrocoin.com is working well for me.

Thanks ! That was one of the ones I noticed when browsing reviews.

Can you use it in supermarkets like a Visa debit card ?

I see it's created by 3 kids from Lithuania. I wonder how that business model works but it's a killer product if it does what it looks like. So you can just hold BTC or DASH and fund that card with it when you need to ?

This is why I keep making the point that crypto will never be used for retail or point of sale. You will always have services like this to make the trade in the prevailing denomination of the day, even if it's crypto that backs it.

EDIT: Ah, now I've read the t&c's I see it's them that holds the crypto. You hold the fiat - you just sell them BTC at the point of topping up. How is that any different from localbitcoins (which injects fiat straight into your bank account). It's quicker somehow ? Always the same buyer ? You don't have to negotiate ?

According to this review, XAPO balance stays in crypto and only gets converted when you spend. Thats what I'm looking for. (Or even Wirex).

Yes, I use it in supermarkets.  I got the physical unverified card a couple of months ago, all you need to give them is a name and mailing address, and it costs $9.00/€8.00/£6.00 - not a big investment if you want to try it out.

As far as I'm concerned it's a lot better than localbitcoins. I really don't want to arrange meetups with strangers. I'm a wimp that way Smiley

I spent a LONG time researching fees, terms and conditions on all the cards,

https://spectrocoin.com/en/bitcoin-debit-card.html

and this seems to me to be the best, although I was tempted by Wirex.

I only keep minimal amounts of BTC, Dash and cash on the card, and just send more from my Electrum wallets when I want to use it.  It pretty much meets all my needs at the moment, and I'm going to go ahead and verify with them shortly.

Thanks, really appreciate opinion...
It seems to me that under "the travel card" concept you can ask for three different cards at once (one for any currency) to avoid change fees... Huh

... I almost have no fiat holdings anymore but stuff like Localbitcoins is too slow if you need fiat on a day to day basis.
Would be good if you could just withdraw cash from a crypto-backed fiat account at the spot rate.
What options are there ?

Hi Tok, I'm looking for the same and Wirex seems a good option to me (only gets converted when you spend).

Bitwalais  on twitter from 2013 with 1544 folowers and wirex from 2014 with 5877...if this means something.
Sure you have Better skils to compare ...I'm waiting your opinion for sure before any eventual move  Smiley

This is why I keep making the point that crypto will never be used for retail or point of sale.

Actually, on reading this back, I just realised I might be wrong about this since the whole point of a 'privacy coin' is to bypass the proprietary commercial sector and provide users+vendors with an end-to-end monetary vehicle.

Maybe thats why instant confirmations are an essential part of the "privacy" equation because without them you need a trusted third party bridging service to complete the trade in the millions of cases where <3 second transaction time is required (such as POS & eCommerce).

Exactly, and with cash being killed off, something has to take it's place.

Although I think Dash has the perfect setup to do so, it's still going to take a while before people trading in Dash no longer have any need to go to fiat (except perhaps to pay taxes??)  Anyway, it's not something being forced by a government, down the people's throat, therefore, it's going to take a lot of time for adoption.  But maybe not as long as we think.

A lot of people see how slow it's taking for Bitcoin to get anywhere, and think crypto may never make it main stream.  But most people still don't realize what Dash can do, and Dash is developing on a million fronts.  Or at least it seems that way.  For anyone thinking nothing is happening, OMG, so much is happening, it's hard to cover it all.  Aside from the DAO that is DASH, we have fiat integration, then marketing, a billion partnerships, it's a snowball effect and nobody can see it because the boys are so busy, that public communication has broken down.

But personally, I predict that one morning the world is going to wake up to a Dash storm, where everything will suddenly come together.  I also predict that it will happen within the next 5 years (more likely 2, but ...?? )  A year from now Evolution will be released.  A lot of people are already making plans and building around it, and they don't even have a solid DAPI yet!  Frankly, it's extremely exciting, and if only I could be here more often, I'd make more notes to list all the stuff I've seen, LOL.

But yah, Tok, I think they're on the right track.  We have to interface with fiat for a while, but before long, and I mean much sooner than most realize, there will be no reason to use fiat, except to trade the junk in for crypto.  And your daily crypto will be Dash, no matter where else you want to invest, Dash will be your daily living expense monetary medium.
