Just saw this notice, might be useful for some of you Smiley

Genesis loves all coins!
We do now accept Dogecoin for contract payments! Such mining!

Users that want to support the Dogecoin network can now do so by purchasing hashpower with Doge and mine Doge directly to their wallet.
So Genesis Mining is becoming the first truly multi-coin mining company. We eat our own dogfood!  Smiley

First user that pays in doge gets a free 10%  upgrade on his hashrate!

And we will accept even more crypto-coins in the future!

A Great Time to Start Something!
Interesting, albeit really long, discussion about implementing Proof of Stake, by Dogecoin's developpers:
http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoindev/comments/289ki5/okay_lets_talk_proofofstake/

Congrats to DOGE for breaking the mold and blazing new trails: So far, I read the OP and it's a surprise they can even consider this.
Are there any other coins that completely changed their basic nature, at least among the top 10?
I didn't think this was "allowed", but DOGE might go where no coin has gone before.  Smiley

Indeed, none in the top 10 have done that! I'm under the impression that Dogecoin's community is more flexible than the others, and the loyal miners wouldn't mind taking a small cut by implementing PoS if it means a more secure future for the coin in the long run (which is not the case in BTC's community, where more than a third of the miners continue to mine at ghash.io)

And it's nice to see that the coin is backed not only by a plethora of awesome users, but also by many intelligent devs and leaders.

However, the case for PoS is a really though call, considering that a few big holders will get most of the new coins. But then again, there won't be that many new coins, and inflation could change to 2.5% instead of 5. Or perhaps the value relative to LTC would go up enough for PoW to remain secure. However, does PoW truly offer a better distribution, considering the huge ASIC farms?

I guess only the future will tell Cheesy

This is a very serious decision:
Is anyone consulting with the founder?
(Not the human, but has the Doggie been asked for an opinion?)  Cheesy

That is an interesting read. As a miner, I appreciate them not making a rash move, allowing me to continue to build up a few before the possibility of having to switch.

There's an ASIC group buy going on for Dogecoins, it will end tomorrow.
They've already raised more than 2400$.
If you want to contribute, there's no minimum amount: http://www.reddit.com/r/dogemarket/comments/28gjjq/sg_ss_purchase_micro_shares_of_asic_miners/

Why not change the algorithm right now? To prevent possible problems in the future?

Because at the moment, it's the second most secure scrypt coin so there's no need.
Based on what? Total hashrate? That's not what makes it secure at all.

The hashrate is not what makes it secure? I thought that was the whole point of cryptocurrencies Tongue

For now it's at 60gh/s. The three biggest pools wouldn't have enough hashpower to do a 51% attack.
An independant miner would need a 2.5M$ investment in mining hardware to attempt this, and unless he holds more than 10% of all the doges, he would not profit from double-spending.

And since many dogecoin users bought ASICs to secure the network, it would be unfair for them to change now when it's still very profitable.

When the block reward will fall to 30000 in three month, if the price didn't rise considerably, it might be wise to reconsider.

Well touche Lynn anyways I like the name Mcshibe sounds classy in my mind Smiley

I agree Smiley
I had lost hope that a dogecoin-related burger would win because of McDonald's censorship, that's a pleasant surprise.

Fact, not FUD. Take the blinders off. Don't forget I'm a holder and supporter myself just not delusional.

Dogecoin has the advantage of having a smaller and thus more flexible userbase dans Bitcoin's. If 51% attacks end up being a considerable threat in the future, a change of algorithm could happen; the developpers have talked about this a few times.

aggreed.
if changed, I wish this coin will be good in the future.
