I always liked this coin and had blast mining it in my early days.

Same, I also had fun mining it in the beginning & have always been fond of the concept of this coin.
Well as a starting point, I can rebuild the wallets with fresh hard coded nodes & get everyone synced up again. That needs to be point number 1.

Did EDU fork at some point?
or is my memory too fuzzy...something about cutting the amount of coins down.
the last wallet I used worked fine, but I don't even know where it anymore.

As far as I remember there was absolutely no problem with the existing blockchain.
I was mining and trading until the last exchange closed.
After that there were no working nodes.

I offer 30 million EDU bounty for entering in an exchange (Exchange should be discussed before and should not be an abandoned exchange or with very few volume)
Bounties will be sent after the network will begin to work and my wallet syncs.
