I've just tried and it synced fine, so it has to be issues on your end. How long did you let it sync ?This sis supposed to be CPU mining only but is there a possibility that some other hardware gets modified so that it could also mine Elicoin?
An attempt was made on yescrypt algo some time ago, results can be seen in these articles: http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/yescrypt-gpu-miner/Note: yescrypt, not yescryptR16
As for "other hardware" is concerned... as an engineer I can guarantee you that ASIC or special dedicated hardware can be made for each and every algo ever made.

Close the wallet and reopen it. It takes a while.
It took the wallet on my linux os about an hour before it started syning. You should get around 9 connections after a while

you can use a GPU card to mine but your hash rate will be low. I think the benchmark for a 1080 ti is around 2Kb. I dont know how many cards that would take to get the 2kb since the benchmark does not say if its 1 card or 10.
