- We will provide the source to pools 15 to 20mn before official release time, in order for them to prepare everything and to be able to launch on time.
Please do NOT do this. When the source is released to the pools earlier this always happens:
- One pool "accidentally" launches early, claiming "i didn't know"
- You get one small group of people getting all the easy coins
- all miners will then go to that pool and it will remain the dominant pool ensuring hash concentrated in one pool
- Bigger risk of fork when other pools come online
Giving it to everyone at once gives small miners a chance to solo for a few minutes and helps to stabilize the chain. Please reconsider this.
Agree don't give source out earlier. Compiling takes 5-10 minutes what can be used for soloing. If you hand out the source some pool owners may start solo mining with some friends and you will never be able to proove that you were'nt the one who instamened hundreds of blocks
what if somebody dont want to mine solo? that wouldnt be fair tho..

The amount of mining solo miners can do vs. even one pool opening early is vastly different. Difficulty remains low until a pool spins up and everyone flocks to it.
Unless you're "in the know" which some shady pool op who will open immediately (or keep it private for his buddies) everyone gets screwed if pools get it early.

If you release it to "official" pools early, I think that's ok too AS LONG AS YOU POST WHICH POOLS THEY ARE. This would give everyone ample time to register for the appropriate tools and set up failovers.
The best approach is to get on IRC to distribute the information.
