Is this what it is doing to increase the difficulty with no return on price.

The instance is not mining, it's sole activity is to respond to getblock API calls made by a bit of Python intended as a response to:

I'm looking for some simple code (e.g. Python, Go, C, Perl, Java, etc.) to scrape blocks to JSON / text.

OK

Am I not understanding the difficulty / price?

Difficulty increases, equal or lower price

Why is it that the difficulty (many Chinese to mine) is increasing a lot and in return to low?

What is up?

Found in the purse a few gaps - is it traded where?

Thank you for that informed analysis, especially the stackexchange link, I shall be following that up.

doesn't bode well

I half suspected as much. I'm old enough to remember Arnold Arnold (I can only find this one reference https://www.amazon.co.uk/Geometric-Solution-Fermats-Last-Theorem/dp/B001OR8FJQ) from the PR ruckus of the time.

Interesting item posted to Hacker News, a paper published at October's Fields Medal Symposium in Toronto: A Schr¨odinger Equation for Solving the Riemann Hypothesis (PDF).
The author has previously published this on vixra, which doesn't bode well.  He isn't on the Fields Symposium program nor is he an invited speaker.  He was an attendee.

Some interesting discussion of the Bender-Brody-Müller paper the Moxley one assumes:

There is some fundamental disagreement there, with Bellissard indicating the BBM paper is heavily flawed while Moxley runs with it.

I'm looking for some simple code (e.g. Python, Go, C, Perl, Java, etc.) to scrape blocks to JSON / text.  I don't want the transactions, I want the block data.  E.g. the "Raw Block" data from https://chainz.cryptoid.info/gap/block.dws?688423.htm.

gapcoin.org went down but was still doing the scraping for a while, but that stopped as well after a while and nobody has submitted any records for Gapcoin for almost a year.  If I have a good way to scrape the block data I can do regular submissions.

Gapcoin is down to 748 records (from 1102 at the beginning of the year and 1614 at its peak).  The best Gapcoin merit is currently the 29th highest known, but it's possible there is a higher merit sitting in the blockchain.

Interesting item posted to Hacker News, a paper published at October's Fields Medal Symposium in Toronto: A Schr¨odinger Equation for Solving the Riemann Hypothesis (PDF). The approach is mentioned in the wikipedia entry:

Quote
The calculations in Odlyzko (1987) show that the zeros of the zeta function behave very much like the eigenvalues of a random Hermitian matrix, suggesting that they are the eigenvalues of some self-adjoint operator, which would imply the Riemann hypothesis. However all attempts to find such an operator have failed.

what is the point of this coin?

What value does it add to people's lives?

You get paid to solve math problems.

For example, mersenne.org is a huge project where people spend tons of computing power for no obvious monetary gain (although there's a prize for discovering new prime numbers). Here, you get smaller rewards for every block solved, which involve other prime-related problems. To me, it's better use of CPU power than mersenne.org; both projects do interesting math, but Gapcoin solves more practical problems as a cryptocurrency.

You should note that very few cryptocurrencies do any kind of useful work with their block verification. Some of those rely on central servers for work distribution, which breaks the core principles of cryptocurrencies. Gapcoin is one of the few genuine cryptocurrencies that do science on the side (along with Primecoin and Riecoin -- are there any others?).

The speculators, those of us in coins now to avoid homelessness, pay for meds etc, are bloodthirsty and want profit.

When the mainstream hits though and people want a currency, they will want something that feeds the future, instead of draining it like fiat.

Primes, and prime gaps etc, paint a natural picture of *some unknown pattern*. We don't know what it is nor what its meaning will be, but there is no doubt that at some point in the future somebody who has information we don't have will look at the picture painted by primes etc and be glad that not everybody threw their electricity into the garbage with trash like bitcoin.

Yes I've gone very quiet. Yes, I've stupidly bitten off more than I can chew. Yes, I'll be back when I've managed to get myself into a sustainable position.

From the debug log...............................looks like it is consistently improving, not sure what log2_work translate to only thing I can think of is Merit, but that can't be right because their would be more eyes looking at this.

To build the wallet you need debian os/ubuntu os/trisquel os/ mint os

distrowatch.org

https://github.com/gapcoin/gapcoin

Check the issues tab and try to compile the wallet

CPU mining is setgenerate true in the debug console

GJHiggens has a repository fork of Gapcoin, but it does not compile for me.  It does not update the modules after cloned.

Can someone explain what these transactions are doing?  Why do they generate such large gap amounts.  Is that address really paying 18-30 Gap just in transaction fees?

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/gap/block.dws?656418.htm

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/gap/block.dws?656417.htm

My guess would have been that it's somebody that mined a lot of blocks over a period of time and then is sending their mined coins into a sort of cold wallet? Is there anything which would contradict that?

As for the fees, isn't that something the sender can set voluntarily?

It's not really that much and maybe the person is used to having to use fees to push a transaction with other coins, so they just paid a little extra without calculating? Or maybe because there are so many imputs it has a lot of kb?
