I am really curious about the ios app. whats the problem with releasing it on the app store? Does apple not allow?

It's Telegram. Their Android version is up to date, but their iOS version isn't - so the GEMZ team has to update it themselves.

Is that possible? or can it only be done from Telegram? Also Daniel mentioned "and other cool stuff" in his last update, wondering what that is.

The social messaging app that pays? Pays who? Up until now it's looks like I paid during the ICO.
I must say that I was expecting to see a transparant development (especially after the email contact I had with Daniel), but atm I feel like being used to pay for the dream of somebody else.
Sorry to say, but for me transparancy doesn't mean an update every few weeks or so.

Clearly if you know the project you will know the team is hard at work getting the iOS and Airdrop out, until then you shoudn't expect them to waste their time on PR if it cuts into the development.

Beyond that its very simple, if you believe in the project you count yourself lucky cause you can buy cheaply at the moment and if you don't then sell your tokens. Beyond that I'm pretty sure no one cares what you do.

Giving profits back to the users is what gems is all about.  That is what makes it the most superior product out there.  I do agree that without the iOS version we can't scale big.  But I know they know that and are working hard towards that goal.

The giving back profits to users gives it the ege that WhatsApp and Facebook never could.  I believe that mass adoption is inevitable when the iOS version is released.

It is also important to have as much of a bug free app as possible or we will lose momentum with adoption.

Gems not being mentioned in that article is a serious oversight.

I keep repeating it but I hope GEMS PR puts a big focus on the advertising model that basically gives profits back to the users, that concept alone could revolutionise the Internet let alone chat.

I do also agree we need to get moving quickly I wish devlopment updates had at least a rough timescale for iOS and Airdrop?

Your only Amigo, in the World of Crypto
guys, you need to hurry a bit with both; the development and subsequent marketing. Its obvious that the product must be ready before you go out and advertise it. Speed is essentital dear gemz team. Please hurry. You are my last alt-project. If gemz fails, I am out of alts.

Although getgems is currently the superior bitcoin im app i agree with your statement.

They were already on it before that article came out!! NEXT UPDATE! Still a worthy post you got there. Hope that will give some boost to the GEMS Team!

GetGems developer update - android build 2.1.11(414)

1. Our own XCP nodes are in the air. As stated earlier, we relied on Counterparty servers in order to perform tasks like opening a new wallet, sending coins, etc. By opening our own nodes, we detach ourselves from any future changes the Couterparty dev team do that can break our code. We will maintain updates of the Counterparty API, only after we insure it works perfectly with GetGems.

2. Sending of coins (GEMZ/BTC) to contacts who don't have the GetGems app (they are using a regular Telegram client). These users will receive a Telegram message saying that their contact is trying to send coins and they have to download the app in order to collect them (download link added)

3. Sending coins (GEMZ/BTC) to other GetGems user will be shown as a Telegram message in the chat. For example: Hi, i've sent you 100 Gems.

4. Added the ability to send BITS and USD (Conversion is made by BticoinAverage API)

Note: iOS App, Airdrop, inviters link with username pre-filled, QR scanner plus some more cool staff are being worked on and will be talked about in-depth during the next developer update.

I contacted Telegram regarding this, this is what they said:

misleading clickbait. Nothing hacked – author presumes attacker has root access (means your device must be already hacked for ts)

Good response from Pavel Durov (CEO of Telegram): https://medium.com/@durov/how-to-hack-telegram-43dc9e6c5ac2

I think what is meant here is data not the use of memory.

On wifi i have used 111 mb for a month, but that doesnt matter since im using wifi, on mobile i've used 8mb. It also depends on your contract if you have unlimited data then it doesnt also matter, best way is to use wifi a lot and if you are not using wifi there are some ways to cut down data usage. Like closing background extentions that are running which use data aswell.

I can imagine gifs have more data than text and i think his friends love the context aware gifs and use them alot, if you like to send lots of gifs like me try doin it under wifi or if you have a high data internet bundle.

Hi reRaise, that's not how it should work my friend, its a mobile app and should be optimized to act as such, opting out of content aware smarticons should kill all data traffic related to them, right now that is not the case. When opted out processes related to the smarticons still add data weight to the conversations (analytics) atleast thats where I suspect the additional data is coming from. GetGems should not be much heavier then Telegram it build on when all features are turned off.

- The Dev team will be looking at it tomorrow to see if there is any data weight that doesn't need to be there. To be continued.

O ok good to hear.

Is anyone else experiencing high data usage by getgems app?

A friend of mine has blown through 500mb over the last month, and they are (understandably) upset and uninstalling the app.

I've used 230mb over the last 30 days. Most of that is foreground usage, although I barely use the app.

That's very weird, 02/2015 -> GetGems (18,8MB) and WhatsApp (26,0MB) I use them pretty much the same way and with the same frequency. I do have some features like smarticons/emoji disabled which do seem to produce a lot of data when used. Besides that you have various options to limit traffic depending on your connection in the settings/automatic media download.

Thanks for checking.

I sent a few images, and maybe a dozen or more gifs in total.
So it's definitely not from my (intentional) usage.

My Nexus 7 has getgems under the same gems account. But it only shows 70mb of data usage in the past month. That still seems kind of high, but maybe it's from the app updating a few times?

As a security precaution I'm going to uninstall getgems until I figure this out...

I have sent more than a dozen gifs but just shows 12 mb, even less than whatsapp.

just curious - will GetGems be re-branded/renamed? like GEMZ or maybe GEMX? lately i have come across a few bitcoin companies that have "X" in their names. e.g. BitX

EDIT: Actually, I've used 230mb for just the last week. From Feb 7 - Mar 7 it shows 476mb of data use.

what do you guys think about the Wiper app and its implementation of Bitcoin? it might be some competition for GetGems in terms of sending cryptos.

Wiper just has a higher user base, apart from that GetGems is the way to go. You can only use Wiper if you attach your fb or email account to it, i don't like to use a messenger with my Facebook account, it also has no end to end encryption and no further info on crypto implementation details another reason for me not to store my bitcoin on it.

GetGems sends bitcoin easier than Wiper too and supports Bits aswell with being Telegram compatible and has gif support, im not even talking about its upcoming reward and advertisement model. Features wise GetGems is way ahead but Wiper is more established and has more users. Also sending crypto in app is one thing but buying them is another thing which i don't know if these non tech wiper users have the incentive to do. I hope GetGems makes it easy through an option to buy gemz/btc.

This just shows how hot this space is. The more normal it becomes for people to use crypto the better. Ive said it before but sending coins is not the unique selling point of
Gems but the profit share and advertising model. There will be loads of coin texting apps in the coming years but replicating gems is unlikely for big players and will not be first to market for a new altcoin even if it can pull it off.
