Any tips in making this thing work? I'm using the data from the .conf but can't connect to server.

i have a question.
5000 gra for block confirmed or for orphans too?  Huh

Scrypt ready. And now we need if with orphans 4080000 grain without orphans 3660000.
PM please

Ofcourse no. For the blocks existing in the chain.

LK7, GLX, BUK, MPL, COL and others are no different than GRA. Having solo'd them all, its easy for me to see the similarities.

Some have many orphans, some are PoS only... all are very problematic. Copy n paste coins.. period.

In a sense all coins after bitcoin litecoin, ppcoin and primecoin are copy and paste coins as they bring nothing new. The question is how the coin is handled after it appeared. You have seen my short discussion with LK7's dev. Most of these clones have no ongoing support from the devs after the coin is launched. Here I found an active developer who I decided to join when he offered.

We know COL and some other are pure PoS, but GRA is both PoS and PoW, and both blocks are generating. Hope with new algorithm the diff will be behaving more reasonably.

I have to agree that PoW/PoS coins have a lot more problems than PoW only coins, but we are actively fixing issues so hopefully Grain will work fine for both PoW and PoS.

If that is really the case, then why is Peercoin, the first PoS Pow hybrid, so stable ?

Peercoin is using a different algorithm (SHA-256), and Grain and other most PoW/PoS coins you see in alt coin forum are some descendents of Novacoin.

The main reason, I think, Peercoin and Novacoin is comparably more stable, is because of its much bigger block time. Both have block time of 10 mins, as opposed to Grain, which is 30 sec. Clearly (for evident reasons), the more the block time, the more stable the network will be. Fast block time creates a lot of challenges, such as orphans, stability of blockchain etc.

That's a good point. So than, it may be a wise decision if instead of halving the block reward the first time, double the block time, so it would be 1 min (allowing the POS to scatter, if i'm right).

GRA holders (myself included) are banking on it becoming as stable as PPC when the issues are worked out.  I'm confident Grain's value will rise considerably in coming weeks/months.  Gotta buy/hold now when there are still 'issues' if you want be an 'early adopter' and have the potential to make a lot of money in a relatively short amount of time.  With risk comes reward.

One thing I have noticed - most people are holding.  Very little selling going on.

It is true that there are many cut-n-paste alts out there.  It is important to find one with a community and dev that are working towards innovation and improvement.  If you watch these forums closely you will find that GRA and a few other coins (CAT for example) have active communities working towards these goals.

The LK7 dev claims that the LK7 orphans are actually being stolen.

After seeing both of my GRA blocks orphan earlier, I can't help but wonder if the same problem is happening here.

The ledger should not be editting itself.

How could that happen?

From what I know, nodes can force the blockchain to only accept the blocks and/or transactions they choose. Something like a 51% attack..

I think this is a pure diff problem, which induce a lot orphans. If you check the number of PoW blocks (and PoS blocks), they should be OK (check the block explorer). Only problem is that, instead of diff 1.5 and find a block every 3-6 mins, now you have a diff at 0.1 and find a block every 3-6 mins, but then with 50 orphans in-between, the orphans are due to the diff.

Thanks jdebunt Smiley

A minor issue, but since the last time we updated, the startup grain logo has lost its transparency. I'm sure it was transparent before, but now it has a white background.
thanks, will fix it in the next release

If the devs actually tested them before launch, it wouldn't be so bad. Instead most of what we see are hyped pump it and dump it garbage run by newb account devs with nothing to lose should they ever decide to give up.

All the while, the few that are innovative and stable tend to go un-noticed.

I just found a 5% superblock, 5 seconds later its an orphan.

Second block, second orphan. Angry

This is a bit different for the PoW/PoS hybrid. While a well connected node with a plenty of the hashing power may win the race in broadcasting its PoW block it can't make the network accept more PoW blocks than the network would accept according to the 12/1 rule. ATM there should be no big coinstake in the malicious hands to influence PoS either.

As I posted today at some moment we even were behind the target - we had 22 PoW blocks out of 326 while expected number is 27.

What makes you say that? What ever happened to the 500,000,000 pre-mined coins?

If you follow the blockchain, the genesis block starts off with 500 million.

500000000
98sNiCGjGK6L4ukoxTQvW99Mxx3SxFLqUW

This is split across 2 addresses (99 million and 401 million):
99000000
9Bw85xV9FjcZ3X9iFKoVXpAwNmM6JNfZ1R (Still retains a balance of ~99 million)

400999999.98
9A5mtFtxzmN7fhWmkPFWmES8bXW6Bu4Kc6

If we follow the remaining 400 million to that second address we see another split (99 mil / 301 mil)

99000000
96ypKUJmNaZEQGkbzkemBfb13GCxYvFhkx (Still retains a balance of ~99 million)

301999999.96
963vUdcoxt6ydVoycreBWh4StgYTbmaF4L

Follow the remaining 301 million to the next address and it's split up again in the same 99 million amount:

99000000
9DX56airvFLUB1RL9DDwLgV4nzhZdY7FMB

202999999.94
9Lnt3uR84usNHs8eDs7uk1wjpKYtTTHsNX

Following the 202 million remaining, you can see many smaller 5,000-20,000 GRA transfers (presumably the giveaways).

So, at least a few wallets were sent ~100,000,000 GRA and the dev probably still has 150-200,000,000 more.... That's actually quite a large amount of GRA (and a significant part of what has been mined) concentrated in just a few wallets.

Just for the record I also found a small superblock today, and it orphaned. First time that's ever happened.

I have a plenty of orphans each day but still I don't see this annoying for me and I must tell that my connection is far from perfect. When I have been trying to mine GLX then yes I had nearly 2/3 of all my PoW blocks orphaned or even more.

Understood. It just seems to be a recent change.
