As you can imagine, I was pretty stoked when I got home and wondered why my total coins looked a little higher than I expected.

Does Grain, which has 2 week coinage generate approximately 2 times more PoS blocks than coin which has 4 weeks coinage? Is it cumulative effect or are there some other variables involved?

Bump. Perhaps someone could answer. Its pretty difficult to figure out how this works.

To answer your question I need to study the whole path of the PoS block creation. Despite I dived into cryptocurrencies not yesterday, I had no time nor reason to study this area before - I was just a simple miner. Three days ago bosian invited me to join the team, so I did. Now I have to get familiar with these internals, so eventually I will give you an answer.

To the moment, at least I can say that the probability of generating PoS block with some input grows with aging of this input until that input reaches 30 days age.

You are correct. I fixed the post, I am sorry for mistake. Just checked with sources, it is 10 days.

The "stake" is the coins that recently participated in a PoS block generation. After 50 blocks they are returned to the normal state and in 5 days will get old enough to participate in the PoS generation again. You will never see all your coins in a stake unless you merge all of them in a single input by merging them together by sending to yourself the whole amount. There is no reason in doing this IMO, as any coin has fixed maximum number of 'cycles' per year. You can't use your coins while they are in stake, but the coin age for these coins is reset at the moment of PoS block generation, so by merging them manually you reset the coin age to zero again, thus you extend the period of being not eligible for the transferred this way coins.

So min coinage is 5 days??

Yes, the input must be at least 5 days old to be eligible.

I am new to the POS thing, so please excuse my noobness ...

I have around 300k in my wallet which has been open for over 24 hours - should I see a POS payment by now ?

Donations welcome! : 95ExnEDdtAQ5hpDDSJbPd3UqsMyqFAtpUN

It can take a little while. Keep an eye on the total. The stakes don't show in the transaction history. It took me a few days before I started seeing mine come through. You'll also get small amounts of grain come through as transactions.

The small amounts you´ll receive are the stake transactions.... Wink so they show up in your transaction history... Wink

So what are the larger amounts I see in my stake? I had a stake around 1400 grain not long ago, but the stake transactions are just a couple of grain.

the 1400 grain shown in stake where the coins you were receiving the stake for...

Oh I understand now! So the stake are my coins, and the transactions are the stake awards in proportion to my stake. So will my stake continue to get larger as time progresses? It seems to be getting bigger each day.

That makes sense. Also, by merging them, aren't you decreasing the amount of PoS grain you receive? I mean, if you receive a small amount each day, eventually it will mature and increase the amount of grain you have eligible for the next PoS generation when it matures, so it seems to me it's best to just let the small steady amounts continue to come in.

I will gladly do a follow-up Grain article when the new wallet is released Smiley

Or in case I missed any big news, if so, PM me the details please Smiley

Look forward to reading it.
