There are some video sharing platforms in the making and some of them want to neglect censorship-resistance. How about your platform? Can anybody post anything or will there be mechanisms to remove illegal content or to block it fully from being published?
Thanks for the great question. In short, our moderation policy will be as minimal as possible while still ensuring that content is legal. The primary reason for this is that if we were to openly allow the distribution of illegal content, the future of the platform would be put at significant risk from legal action being taken against us and also access to the platform being restricted by certain geo's, ISPs etc.
What is important to note is that with Verasity is that the way content is monetized helps the platform to resist any form of bias or monetization censorship. In a traditional advertising funded model, advertisers are only willing to pay for impressions on "brand safe" content. This means that more controversial content (even it is legal) is harder / impossible to monetize. As a result, this content is often not successful. On Verasity, the monetization of the content is direct - the viewers pay content creators for content. The content creator can decide on the monetization model they want to use on a video by video basis with options including donations, pay-per-view and subscriptions. This means the success of content is controlled by the viewer and creator, rather than the opinion of another third party such as an advertiser.
We also have patent-pending technology, Proof-of-View, that makes sure that all audience data is real. This makes the content recommendation and content surfacing systems resistant to bots, fake views and other methods often used to boost the stats of content to manipulate these systems (often used in "fake news"). Combined with direction interaction between viewers and creators, this creates a platform where content is surfaced based on it's value to users rather than the value to corporations or other third party's.
