If bittrex denied login access due to a different IP address, then that would have saved my ass.....

Basically this exchange itself is vulnerable to attacks.

You obviously used the same password at more than one site, and did not use 2FA. Don't blame the exchange for you not locking the door on your coins. It's your responsibility to secure them. NOT the exchanges.

Park your $70,000 car in a garage and leave the keys in and radio on. Complain to the garage when your car is stolen. Hear laughter.

People: Use 2FA. Do NOT reuse passwords. Be smart.

I spoke to someone involved with people who had coins stolen from various places. Based on what they said, I checked our logs. We had 4 suspicious logins from odd IP addresses (account owners have been emailed) but had 0 balances.

We had FOURTEEN other logins. All with coins. None lost. Because they had 2FA protecting their account.

Use the security people. Please.

I think the exchange can see what account bought what coin, how much of it and at what time. In that way, I could get my BTC back if it was still in that account, and if not, then that account could be banned or however so.

But why would anyone wanna do anything good for anyone else these days.....

dude, put the hot coco down and always watch your back.

this world will eat you alive, your not in kansas anymore

I'm not even from the USA, I'm from Pakistan. Just here for bachelors.

I don't think that anyone has thought of this as yet, but these hackers only target accounts with a good amount of BTC. But how can they know that? Unless bittrex is comprimised as they're the only ones that can know of it.

I can't possibly stress enough how important it is to have 2FA on anything and everything crypto currency related. Install Authy on your phone, set up 2FA on your email and every exchange you ever have coins at. Sure it's a minor pain in the ass to have to get a code to login, but it's much less annoying than losing your money.

Were talking about mostly anonymous internet money than can be moved around without a trace and currently has almost zero repercussions for the hacker/thief. Honestly, 2FA should be required on exchanges these days.

some exchange don't provide 2fa through email, what about i want to use 2fa on a normal phone? they should provide sms form too...

Well, you're the one at risk for holding out, not anyone else. I truly find it hard to believe that people involved in something as technical as crypto currency don't have a smartphone and or tablet.  Given that password databases have been hacked in the past, I'd say obtaining a device capable of 2FA is simply a required operating cost. I also assume most people here have a decent investment in crypto already through mining and trading as well, so it should be a small fraction of your portfolio at least. Even if you have zero interest in a tablet or smartphone, it's a pretty poor excuse when the security of much larger value is on the line.

it's not about having or not a smartphone, it is because a normal phone is more secure than a smartphone, since there is no internet connection

we should try to find out which pool was compromised to get the user data. so, to everyone who's coins were stolen either on jpcdice or an exchange: which pool did you use?
And I wonder if the pool did store the passwords in plaintext? not encrypted? maybe the pool owner does still not know about that?

I know it might be a bit embarrasing to admit using the same password twice, but it will help to find a security weakness in one of the pools!

Instead of spending 1000s of dollars in btc trying to get added to mintpal you guys should try these guys out. They have added plenty coins before and they vote 1st then you pay. Maybe someone in community can approach

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/want-to-get-on-top-of-the-mintpal-voting-list-639308

that doesnt look like a good idea.

yes me and 30 others have given money. but like $60 each.

if we didnt but votes that day that we did.JPC would have never gone up to what it did 83

Well you going to have to keep on putting btc in, IXCoin has been in top 5 for the last 3 months.

true and theres been many coins that have been added who were in the top 5 for a few days. i like our chances

I transferred all the coins in my wallet to bittrex, worth 1.6 BTC at 40 sats. I placed a sell order last night and hit the bed. Got up this morning to find that only not all of my JPC has been stolen at the exchange, but someone was sold it cheap at 31,32 sats, and gambled the rest with Legendary coin, leaving me now only with 0.15 BTC of Legendary coin.

I don't even know what the hell to do.....

Who even trades like that?

don't you have to confirm a withdrawel per e-mail? that would mean, your e-mail account is compromised, too....

My email is fine, uses a different password, this was just at the exchange. And no withdrawals were made, all the BTC was literally bought and sold in a loss by someone.

No withdrawal is needed to steal your btc. Just sell all your JPC , use own btc to buy junk coin and sell at 10x the rate. Use the btc from your account sold from JPC to buy the junk coin set at 10x price. Now the hacker got your btc without withdrawal.

Lesson cost money. Good one cost less.

U spend 1.5 btc to learn to use strong password with 2 FA.

wow...never thought of that...well, noone should use a password twice. always make a new password when you register on a new site.
