This is a great question, I hope somebody from the team would address that question. Lisk SDK is going out at the end of the year so It's pretty certain that the Lisk price will go crazy till the end of the year. Holding that much BTC instead of Lisk would mean a lot of money lost for the Lisk team.

Why does Lisk team hold only 12% of the funds in Lisk and 54% in BTC?
Do they believe in their project?

For Lisk price it's always much better dump BTC for paying salaries and development costs rather than dumping LSK, from this perspective I think it's good they have main funds in BTC.

The whole Lisk mining / distribution model just sucks. Which is secure indicator for huge price manipulations once (if ever) the team releases some API.

Your quote is correct. However, that's not what the timeline of the slide is expressing. I.e. it shows the creation of the foundation in Switzerland with the current capital.
