@ Dyna:

surely one aspect of wisdom is knowing what you know and what you don't know. Here, in your field, I am your student.

My field -- I was involved in my first political action in 1982 -- is revolutionist political theory and social practice/'political metaphysics,' so my background -- all unaffiliated scholarship -- is in 'social systems' and why they do, don't, and might work:

anarcho-syndicalism, anarcha-feminism, anthropology, libertarian communism, authoritarian communism (for example, conversant with the varieties of communal and non-communal property relations), second-wave feminism, literary critical theory (which produced a range of highly influential discourses), fascism, religion, psychology ('cause people build political systems on belief), particularly evolutionary psychology ('cause biology influences why people build systems on belief), and linguistics ('cause the linguists have adduced a lot of data on biological influence).

Personally? at this juncture? I'm a libertarian centrist 'tenurist' nativist* But a friend introduced me to cryptos, my 'twilight hobby.' [I'm seriously old and ill.]

These are the most favorable comments I ever came across from a US Bank Regulator. There is no doubt in my mind that digital currency has the potential to be far more efficient and superior to fiat currency. There are multiple issues that have to be addressed. DNotes is mindful of all those issues and systematically positioned itself to address them.

New payment systems are creating greater efficiencies and convenience, and virtual currencies offer the prospect of instantaneous transactions directly between individuals and entities on a global basis. These innovations are potentially revolutionary in their impact, and are advancing at a breakneck pace”.

US Bank Regulator - Bitcoin May Prove Revolutionary

According to the head of an independent US Agency under the US Treasury that regulates the national banks, virtual currencies may prove to be revolutionary in the world of banking.

In other terms, he has suggested that virtual currencies will bring about a drastic positive change to banking practices in the not so distant future.

This statement came at the Institute of International Bankers this week. Thomas J Curry, the head of the Office of the Comptroller Currency (OCC), raised the topic of virtual currencies during his speech that was intended to shed light on the Bank Secrecy Act and its receptiveness to groundbreaking innovations such as virtual currencies themselves.

Thomas Curry talked about the serious challenges the banking industry has to overcome from criminal organisations. He also mentioned pointers on how all of these legitimate threats can be tackled with the help of sold risk management and anti-money laundering (AML) and (BSA) compliance.

Furthermore, he discussed the topic of the regulation failing to detect the innovative payment methods that the criminals have resorted to as of late. The lack of adaptation to these new techniques has caused the regulatory bodies to become more vulnerable to criminal attacks.

The following remarks belong to Curry : “New payment systems are creating greater efficiencies and convenience, and virtual currencies offer the prospect of instantaneous transactions directly between individuals and entities on a global basis. These innovations are potentially revolutionary in their impact, and are advancing at a breakneck pace”.

In another statement, the OCC chief expressed his disappointment in the core concepts of the BSA, which, according to him, is not in line with the rules and regulations of the 21st century. He also believes that virtual currencies could turn out to be extremely helpful in aiding law enforcements to combat criminal activity and disorders of the financial world.

In an addition to his earlier statement, he said,“It is also foreseeable that, if properly employed, technology can be used by banks and the government to better meet the goals of the BSA, by providing more accurate and timely information to law enforcement and regulators, while simultaneously reducing cost and burden,"

It is worth noting that Curry has prior experience of working as the director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). He has been at the helm of his current organization since the year 2012.
Thomas Curry did not make a direct reference to the virtual currency, but he did highlight some of the operation issues that have hampered the progress of the industry when trying to form ties with traditional financial systems. He also advised banks to abolish the quite harsh practice of terminating customer accounts and instead focus on managing their risks appropriately.

He closed his speech with these final words :“To the extent that it can, the OCC is committed to playing a constructive role in the dialogue and working with other parts of the US government to address this important issue”.

"Bitcoin ecosystem is being built almost exclusively by third parties who believe that it is a good business opportunity for their investment."

Tee hee.

My favourite gripe on this is 'How did we shift so fast from staunchly-libertarian-geeks-with-laptops-meeting-in-cafes-to-trade-coin to Omni Exchange Inc.?" (though I do actually know the answer)

Mark

Well don't leave us hanging... What's the answer? Smiley

Automated exchanges enable speculation.

I shall study Dyna's text. Yes, there is a range of answers.

But: IMHO, GFC Two will enormously strengthen the anti-Guv and stealth-coin factions.

I think there would be quite a few answers to that question Mark. I have noticed that recent surveys have shown that in the year to 2014, the percentage of crypto holders who identify as 'libertarian' or 'anarcho-capitalist' (like myself) has decreased from ~42% to roughly 22% (using memory for figures here) in one year. This growth, I would mostly attribute to the incredible success of the crypto industry, the attraction of getting in on the super profits that have been reported in media, and the broad support for getting the financial system and mechanics for money creation out of the control of private bankers that exists in almost all areas of the philosophical spectrum. The libertarians and 'ancaps' played an important part in the nascent crypto industry to 'get the ball moving' with moderate influxes of capital. The particular aforementioned philosophical adherents also tend to be, as you termed it 'quite geeky', and also exhibit tendencies to take interest in all topics pertaining to decentralised financial systems outside the reach of central planners. It has been very enjoyable to watch other groups slowly enter the crypto-sphere and see the benefits of decentralised currency. Now DNotes is in place to ameliorate the few important deficiencies found in the original bitcoin concept - stability, trust, engaged community and focus on the actual 'functions of money' that will allow DNotes to be used as a viable competitor to fiat currency before any other, while many other coins get lost in the myriad of 'features', 'bells', and 'gimmicks' that lead to initial price appreciation and then rapid corrections (DarkCoin, Auroracoin, XCurrency to name a few). You strike me as a very intelligent and observant player in this game IMZ - Mark, so i'm sure I have shared with you nothing new.

The DNotes CRISP programs work to provide one of the key elements that is required for any successful currency to act in line with the 'functions of money' without wild price vicissitudes - savings.

My next post will be about the CRISP for students, and other CRISPS and how they will behave to allow DNotes to become a true competitor with fiat currency in the future through an initial economic base in savings, as opposed to debt. I must for now, disappear for a few hours.

Thanks, TeeGee. I just sent you a long email. That will keep you busy for a few hours.

There is still 3 full days left in the CRISP Word Contest.  I am going to collect them all tomorrow night and again when the contest ends into one post.   Once they are collected tomorrow, I would appreciate  if everyone can start commenting on a favorite or two to make it easier for grandmama and myself to judge.  You can post as many entries as you want in each category for the remainder of the contest.  Please feel free to contribute even if you don't want to take part in the prizes.

I have one for the non-competitive "Customized CRISP":

CRISP For Customer Loyalty:  This would work better, at least at first, on larger purchases like vehicles, appliances, furniture, equipment, etc.  Because you are already sitting down filling out the paperwork on such sales, setting up a CRISP would be simple.  As an incentive to remain loyal to a specific retailer, a small percentage of the sale would go towards establishing, or further contributing to, a CRISP for the customer.  It could evolve to include a point system (which could include major retailers) where a certain amount of points allows you to purchase one DNote.

                              Smiley

Great, I will blast that out on social media. Maybe it will get us a few more entries.

Thanks, Chase. That gives me an idea. By popular demand (if that turns out to be the case) CRISP For 1st Time Home Buyer could be a good idea. A young couple dating, may want to jointly start a CRISP by giving up a fine dining with the saving invested. You guys can expand from there.

Bitcoin Alternative DNotes Focuses on Banking Solutions and Stability While Venture Capital Investment Continues at Record Breaking Pace

Chicago, IL — (ReleaseWire) — 03/18/2015 — There is an inherent tendency for promising emerging technologies to be deceptive at the formative stage, especially when perceived to be highly disruptive. According to DNotes Co-Founder Alan Yong, a well regarded pioneer and visionary during the early days of mobile computers, this has clearly been the case with Bitcoin, despite often being described as the greatest technology innovation since the Internet . The Bitcoin space has received a staggering investment of almost $500 million from Venture Capital funding in 2014 alone, followed by over $200 million, so far this year.
wow what great write up! so true

Central to DNotes long term strategic plan is the creation of highly scalable building blocks, as the foundation of its own ecosystem

DC  Smiley

Thanks, DC. You are very bright to single that out. There are many key words or phrases in this short sentence. Let me just expand on two of them:

"highly scalable building blocks"

We firmly believe in taking our time to do things right and strictly follow certain process control which is a very common practice in the real world. What it essentially means is that every project must be carefully planned, modeled, and perfected in small scale first. They are always designed with the big picture in mind, hence - highly scalable. When we are ready we can quickly expand it into a very large scale worldwide. This holds true with CryptoMoms and our family of CRISPs. Each can become a sizable project by itself and they are all strategically linked. Together they will ensure that DNotes as a currency can continue to appreciate in value and those fundamental values are supported by for profit revenue generating businesses. In general our projects are also commissioned with a mission to identify large scale global problems with practical solutions, including joint charity efforts with high net worth individuals committed to leave behind an ever lasting legacy to help those in needs

"the foundation of its own ecosystem"

Bitcoin ecosystem is being built almost exclusively by third parties who believe that it is a good business opportunity for their investment. In the case of DNotes, we believe that certainly parts of our ecosystem, especially during the early years, should be done as our own initiatives. We, as a community, have the strongest self interest to follow our own strategic plan or road map, thereby, significantly improve our chances of being successful.

We practice many winning business strategies and manage DNotes as a business. A lot can be learned by following this forum closely. Building a successful digital currency that is stable and trustworthy is the biggest challenge in our industry. This is just the beginning of a long journey. We strongly believe that DNotes is best positioned to deliver the currency of the future that is stable, trustworthy with reliable long term appreciation. Until then the true superiority of digital currency verses fiat currency can not be achieved.

I just made the following post on CryptoMoms and was wondering if a Thunderclap campaign is anything that could help the CRISP For Students?  I am so far down the scale on social media awareness, I don't even register!

**************************************

"I came across this today and was so impressed, I don't even remember what I was searching for.  They are having a Thunderclap campaign to raise awareness for WeSpeakCode in Asia Pacific.  They have met their target and there is only 5 days left, but if you have a chance to show support with Facebook or Twitter, it's a great cause.

https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/21629-wespeakcode-in-asia-pacific?locale=en

Microsoft YouthSpark

"Microsoft YouthSpark is a global, company-wide initiative to empower young people to do more and achieve more in their lives – by providing access to technology skills and a better education, inspiring youth to imagine and realize a better future, and helping them find jobs or to start their own businesses."

WeSpeakCode

"In today’s world, we are surrounded by technology. Information, commerce, communication and entertainment all rely on computers. Unfortunately, only a tiny fraction of students in Asia Pacific learn the basics of how computers work, much less how to create apps or websites.

The good news is that we’re on our way to change this. Last year Microsoft Asia Pacific launched the successful YouthSpark #WeSpeakCode campaign saw thousands of enthusiastic young people across the region getting their first taste of learning basic coding skills, while many others took up more advanced challenges through hackathons and coding for social good.

This year we are working with even more partners across the region who also believe code is a language everyone should learn and computational thinking is a skill which should be taught in all schools. That is why during 23-29 March 2015 together we will be once again saying #WeSpeakCode.

We want to encourage everyone – whether you are a student, teacher or parent – to take your first steps into coding and discover just how easy and fun it can be.

What are you waiting for? Start learning how to code today."

http://www.wespeakcode.net/default.aspx

What thunderclap does is organize people to send a message on social media at the same time. You have to promote your thunderclap to get people to join in, opposed to just asking them to retweet or share. It's an interesting concept, but I would think it would work better for charities and events.
