yep...
the card itself has 2 gpu's on board... and for scrypt mining (litecoin, nyan,...) a lot of memory...
so yeah it can handle the hashes...
but I think that is a really expensive and powerconsuming card...
the $/kh/s for this card is not so good (I think)... but it will save some place on your mining rig (1 card instead of 2)

If your settings are perfect, probably between 1100-1250kh/s. However, they cost like 3x more so it's not really worth it...

Really depends on what price you get it for. The best option is to calculate total rig costs and balance it out so that the $/kh/s is lowest.

That being said. The R9 290 is a powerful gpu that has other functionality. Buying one of the top tier cards probably going to preserve your resale value a bit longer than one about to be cycled out.

There is no one "the" card. I use 7970s myself. It's really what you can get your hands on at a decent price

r9 290 is good to mine any coins, not only nyancoins. We've built up a rig using 11 x R9 290 and everything is working perfectly (mining nyancoins with it atm as nyancoins are the best!)

Weird ... cause when I put the NyanCoin.zip that I just downloaded from NyanCoin.org VirusTotal said there is a Trojan:

Not sure if I want to deal with the potential false positive being a true positive.
