Can we have an international "I finally got BTC1,000 party?" Maybe I'll get to go to it sometime  Smiley

C'mon.  We already know you have BTC1,000 from the other thread. Wink

Hopefully you do though.  I would be happy for you and if you don't yet, hopefully you find a way to get there.

NEIN, ICH BIN DER BITCOIN!

EDIT: I also like the auction idea.

I could offer alpaca socks, worn for about 2 years by a bitcoin enthusiast (me). But I somehow don't think it's such a good item for an auction.

Are those original like bought with Bitcoin socks mentioned in the we use coins video?

I'll totally bid on those if you want an artist to frame them and prep them I'll volunteer for a 10% fee on the winning bid.

So the frame must be a vacuum to keep the smell!  Grin Great idea!

charity is a must. i would say that it is a major component of this event.

(here's where I get branded as a coldhearted sonofabitch. c'est la guerre)  I disagree. Vehemently.

I have no problem in celebrating those at the event who donate, and perhaps even make fundraising a big part of the activities. But out of the proceeds of the attendance fees? No way. What you feel is a worthwhile charity may be opposed to some of my principles, and vice-versa.

We have funds for a celebration, and funds for worthy causes. Why the heck would you commingle these funds? There is no good reason to.

I think it would be good to have a way for people on the party to donate to different charities (via qr-code). I agree it's probably not the best idea to fund from attendance fees.

Maybe have displays up with the current amount donated for each charitable cause.

As a Bitcoin100 dude, I agree wholeheartedly. It's difficult to pick something that will satisfy everyone.

Also, I may be a tad biased, because bitcoin reaching $1,000 will be entirely our (bitcoin participant's) doing, not the charities, and charities have actually been rather reluctant to accept it. We are STILL having trouble giving money away  Tongue

Don't mean to tamp down on the enthusiasm but it may be extremely early to get into this planning.

Oh ye of little faith. Wink

Good Point, My charity could be another man's terrorist organization.
Here is a workaround
We get a lot of Historic Bitcoin Memorabilia, (by donation whatever) - like fist printing of Bitcoin magazine, a first off minted casascius coin, a Rev1 Usb Block Erupter, some alpaca socks, etc.
And they are auctioned off with proceeds going to a designated charity of choice for the winning bid. (or something similar)

Only bid if you want to donate?

Good workaround. I'd take it one step further. Allow the party that donates each particular item to be auctioned to declare which charity would receive the funds from that lot.

That may be a win/win/win.

as someone with a stash of the first block erupters to leave china (i ran the first group buy) i'm very much liking this plan. by then mine would be useless, mining wise.

also, easy on the women talk, as far as ...uh... paying to attend. my (by then) wife will be with me, and... yea.
